Managers In WWE - William Regal Should Manage Wade Barrett

Explain how Regal helps out Barrett?

A manager helps get a guy over and covers his flaws. Regal can't get in the ring and wrestle for Barrett, so the one thing Regal does better than Barrett, he can't do as a manager. Barrett is over, adding Regal won't make him anymore over. If you say "well he could mentor him and make him better in the ring". Well, regal can do that without being on screen. Regal can do a lot more good for the company staying backstage as an agent and helping more guys.

Paul Bearer was a voice for Kane. They needed someone there to explain why all this crazy shit was happening and to help tie it all in with the Undertaker. Kane couldn't talk.

Your logic is decent enough, but you've applied it to the wrong situations. What you're saying is like saying having Usain Bolt drive a Ferrari will make it go faster just because he's fast. Barrett already excels at all the areas that a manager helps with, so adding one does nothing.

Regal has an excellent sinister heel personality. He can draw heat, and in turn, by association, Barrett will draw even more heat. Is Barrett the number 1 heel in the company? No. Does he want to be? Yes. Tweeking his character would only aid him and give him even more credibility. By all means, leave Barrett as he is, but having Regal as manager would do him no harm whatsoever. Lets remember, Barrett hasn't even held the World Title yet. Sheamus, Swagger (poor run but faith in him), all held the gold within their first 18 months so dont tell me there isnt room for improvement.

WWE is so thin on the ground with main event talent right now and he still isnt there. They put the belt on veteran Mark Henry to carry the major heel over on Smackdown.

PS - With regards to Kane, I was talking about 2010 when Bearer was Kanes Manager!!!!

I agree with the general consensus... Wade Barrett is good enough on the mic and has enough heat to where he doesn't need a manager. Unfortunately since Regal hasn't been relevant in years, it would actually kill some of Barrett's momentum. However, to make sure his heat doesn't disappear anyway, the WWE needs to keep pushing him correctly to make sure he continues to be a credible, young gun. I would even have Barrett take Drew McIntyre under his wing to help him regain his edge. Barrett was a great leader for Nexus, so I think until there's a spot for him in the IC or World Title picture, he should just be leading gang warfare.

I do love Regal though and would love to see him with a real role on TV. We could always recreate the amazing Tajiri/Regal segments by putting him with Yoshi Tatsu, since he's done it before. A more serious idea would be to have Bryan lose when he cashes in his Money in the Bank, go on a downward spiral (losing wise, not Hardy wise), and have Regal swoop in as a mentor... submission specialist to submission specialist. However unlike when he did that with Eugene, this would be more of a serious mentorship. It would be a great way to ultimately send Regal off, as a future feud (maybe with Barrett), could lead to the forced retirement of his beloved mentor.

Here's why I think Barrett should have Regal as his manager even though he is a good speaker: he still isn't over.

Just because the guy can talk doesn't mean he doesn't need a manager. Did HHH really need Ric Flair to be his manager...or Stephanie for that matter? Did The Rock need the corporation? Did Ted Dibiase (Million Dollar Man) need Virgil?

Having a manager is supposed to give a wrestler a sense of purpose and importance. Nowadays a manager is used to mask promo deficiencies, but if done right it can catapult a star that can actually get himself over. As it stands, does anyone even care about Wade Barrett? Live crowds sure don't. Part of it is that his music flat out sucks, but he needs something to do and his current gimmick needs some tweaking. For me, Wade was at his best when he was raising hell in Nexus. He needs a group of his own.

Just because a guy is "over" doesn't mean he can't get EVEN MORE "over", which a manager can help with. Managers can cheat, incite the crowd, distract referees, give their guy a foreign object, put shady clauses into contracts, etc. etc. etc. in order to draw EVEN MORE heat for their clients. There aren't too many guys who are SUPER over in the WWE right now compared to the past, so a lot of guys, including Wade Barrett could benefit from a manager. I'd love to see William Regal manage a stable of guys like Bobby Heenan or Jimmy Hart did back in the day.

Plus once a manager gets over as being hated, he can be used as a foil for face turns, as Bobby Heenan often was (e.g. Paul Orndorff, Hercules, Andre the Giant, etc.). Regal would be great in the Bobby Heenan role.
