Live WWE Fans

Ok so I have been wanting to post a thread about this for a while but wanted to wait a couple weeks to see if it just happened once or multiple times so here goes:

The live WWE fans on Monday Night Raw gets on my nerves. Now I get that they pay hard earned money to cheer or boo who they like and chant whatever they want but my only problem is why can they not leave old characters in the past?

For instance everytime Lord Tensai comes out to wrestle you always get an Albert chant or just like tonight when Ryback came out everyone was chanting Goldberg.

I feel that this is so unfair to the people who are representing these characters and I know that we can't really prevent the crowd from chanting it but I just wish that the fans would let the past alone and let these characters develop how they are now and in Ryback's case quit comparing him to a wrestler who was nothing in WWE.

What are your thoughts or am I just being a whiny bitch? lol

I never was a fan of Albert or Lord Tensai or whatever character he was, but I agree that he should have been given a better chance to develop. In the case of Ryback, I think the WWE should follow your advice to and let the past be the past. He seems like a carbon copy of Goldberg to me, and of course the fans are going to be hard on him because of it. I was the never the biggest fan of Goldberg even when he was red hot, and I think they should take the Ryback character and try to make him exceed Goldberg. To do that he needs to get into a feud right now with someone meaningful. I think you are right to an extent though and it is sometimes just a matter of the fans thinking they are smart. Fans are going to do what they want, and will enjoy the show how they want, but I think at least they should give new characters a chance before they verbally bury them or compare them to someone from the past.

Well maybe if they gave us a reason to care about Tensai or Ryback. We know nothing about them so people are latching onto past gimmicks. It is WWE's own fault.

Atleast their reactions aren't forced like the ones heard in the Impact Zone and other TNA shows.

I prefer fans to give authentic reactions to what they are seeing than cheer and boo simply because the show is being booked for them to do so

Would you rather hear no crowd reaction at all or a loud pumped up crowd. I love it when crowds go crazy for people like Ziggler even though he's a heel.

I agree with the OP. These "anti-fans" all want us to know how smart they are. "Oh look that's the guy that used to be Albert" or "man he's just a clone of Goldberg". With Tensai the WWE has admitted he has been there before but he reinvented himself in Japan and came back as someone different. His fighting style is different. Give him a chance to build on that and make something of himself. As far as Ryback is concerned, yes he is bald and he has a beard and he is a monster, but that doesn't make him Goldberg. You never know where this may take us. Tune in and wait and see.

well, the live fans pay their money to go and see the show, so i wont get onto them hard about this, but WWE is kinda at fault here too. for Tensai, it's just that some fans dont care about him and as for Ryback, it's because he's showing Goldberg tendencies like beating two guys and not really talking, just goes out, destroys people and leaves. i expect this to change with Ryback, Tensai, not so sure.

I dont like it really cuz its pointless like "hey everybody thats albert" no shit its albert they even said it on the show he was in wwe before. And Ryback should be put into a feud already and wwe should give him some mic time to show every1 hes not just a goldberg copy (it'll be hilarious if he uses "YOUR NEXT"). Anyways ppl who chant that maybe just dont know what else to chant but it really shouldnt bother u enough to go home and make a thread about it....

That is the main reason why a wrestler who has been on the WWETV before should return with the same name. Fans are not dumb like WWE pretends to think.

I hate when people chant "Albert" for Tensai as Tensai is an original character but I don't care about Goldberg chants for Ryback as WWE made him similar to Goldberg on purpose.

Ryback is a bald guy with hype and pyros squashing jobbers yelling "Feed me More" which is similar to "Who's Next".

Here's why I'm perfectly fine with people mocking Tensai for being Albert and chanting Goldberg for Ryback.

If you want live crowd smarks (and Monday's crowd was very smark-ish) to not do things like that, don't make it so damn easy. The fact is that Tensai is as over as a meatball sub right now. The smarks mock him and even the younger crowd doesn't care. He couldn't draw any heat after his match with Sheamus. He's been a total flop and that's why there's been talk of repackaging him. If you didn't want people to chant Albert when he debuted, you should have designed a better character and made him more interesting. If he'd gotten over, you wouldn't have this problem. In my mind, WWE has no one to blame but themselves for unleashing such a dud after Wrestlemania.

As for Ryback, his problem is temporary, but if you want people to stop chanting Goldberg, spend a little time to develop his character. We get it. He's a monstrous force. I'm not sure how much longer his directionless string of squashes will last, but the moment you see them actually try to use Ryback is something meaningful is the moment the Goldberg chants stop.

Complaining about these kind of actions is so pointless. No matter what you say, they're still going to happen. The only solution is to have a better product and keep your fans entertained. It really is that simple.

Couldn't agree more Peep. WWE tosses fans an easy one, and they run with it. I am from NY, and we are generally a vocal crowd. If Tensai/Ryback make an appearance at the PPV in NJ and RAW the following night in LI, its going to be more of the same. WWE thinks if guys are big and intimidating, they do not need to develop some layers to them. Vince still thinks we will just sit there, be in awe, and cheer or boo based on their actions. Fans today (the pg ones anyways ) may do that, but there are a lot of older fans who want and expect more.

With rumors of a guy like Alex Shelley possibly coming over, they may have another problem on their hands. Us, the IWC, will know who he is, and probably chant his name. Will WWE change it? Hopefully not....not everyone has to be an individual creation of Lord Vince. Guys have made names for themselves outside WWE. Vince just needs to realize when to use new names, and when to let established ones come aboard.

Look, don't confuse most of the people in attendance at these events with fans of wrestling. I think the vast majority of them are interested in the spectacle, not the science. They've shown up to have the comfort of doing what everyone else is doing..... and surrounding themselves with 10,000 other people who are there for the same reason they are is bliss to them. They're not interesting in pro wrestling; they're interested in people.

We can't expect fans in the arena to conform to the act before them; they aren't participants.....they are observers. Many in this topic talk about being annoyed when fans chant "Albert" at Tensai. We can't expect the masses to stay in synch with the storyline; since they think wrestling is a joke, they're going to behave accordingly at live events.

Along the same lines, consider this: a wrestler is beaten and bloodied outside the ring, in desperate trouble and in need of either rescue or inspiration .......and what do you see around him? People laughing and enjoying themselves, many of them desperately trying to touch the wrestler. They know he isn't really hurt (even though he sometimes is) and they're not going to help WWE put the spectacle over as a real-life event.

Sure, it would be nice if everyone got in on the act, but it ain't gonna happen, folks.

Dont look at it as fans being disrespectful, look at it as paying customers being so bored out of their goddamn mind that they would rather chant Goldberg! and Albert! than to follow these inane lame characters and stupid storylines.

It says alot about your product when fans still cant let go of something that happened over 12-15 years ago. Imagine if people on MTV were begging for Backstreet Boys and Nsync? Or imagine if film fans were begging for Titanic and Matrix?

Fact of the matter is that, its not just IWC that is bitching about WWE, now its half their fanbase, as evident by ratings.

If Mark Henry can become successful as a top heel after Sexual Chocolate, then Tensai and Ryback just need to suck it up and keep building their own personas. Besides, Ryback should be taking the Goldberg chants as a compliment. We could be chanting GILLBERG instead.

I get it smarks have taken over but the worse the absolute worse was WE WANT LESNAR! Ok he signed the contract it was all over the dirt sheets but what about the fans who don't read dirt sheets that kind of ruined Lesnar's return. The YES! chant CENA SUCKS! ROCKY! all where hot chants but once thousands started with WE WANT LESNAR! then he came out it wasn't that special kind of return. Remember when Cena came back at the Rumble of course we knew he was coming back early from injury but didn't know when even if you did you didn't chant CENA but when he came out the reaction was deafening. One of the few times I can say MSG shook because the crowd had a feeling but didn't ruin it, I would know cause I was there. Bottom line is,it's good to know things but sometimes shut the fuck up.

The Albert thing is just silly now, after two months.

The Goldberg chants are a form of protest to Ryback's fairly dull squash matches . It's a carbon copy of Goldberg's streak, except even Goldberg faced roster people, not enhancement talent.

So people know that it's boring yet pay to see a boring show? Yeah that makes a lot of sense.

If we are going to bring ratings up what does that say about TNA?

It's more important for some fans to feel a part of the show instead of suspending belief. Like the Goldberg chants. Goldberg was a direct ripoff of Austin and Bischoff even admitted that. Nothing in wrestling is original anymore. It can't be because everything has already been done.

The thing about live audiences that annoy me are when they make a chant for everything that comes out of a wrestlers mouth! They act like puppets with no original thought. The Rock is the master of this craft. Everything he said, they chanted, "fruity pebbles", "kung pao bitch", "lady parts" and so on. Last night was no different. CM Punk had everyone eating out of his hand with, "goat face", "crazy chick" and so on and so on. It just gets tiring after a while.

Also, I hate when they point out that things are trending when they really are not...

WWE using twitter to get things over shows me that there's a lack of creativity and writers are lazy, or just bad at creating compelling t.v.

I think some of the chants are moronic, like the "Goldberg" chants for Ryback, but it's better than the alternative, which seems to be silence or polite applause. Ever since WrestleMania and the night after, the crowds have become more and more dead. Even just a few months ago, John Cena was getting dueling cheers and boos. Now that he's feuding with Big Johnny, the boos have evaporated and the cheers seem quieter than they have in years. CM Punk's pops are shrinking, all that supposed excitement about having Christian come back seems to have faded quickly, and even Santino's reactions have fallen off.
