looks like Beckford has decided to stay with Leeds and not join the Toon Army. I would rather he went to you guys now instead of the summer when we wont get a penny for him, but if in the long run he gets us promoted its a wise move.

What do you think?

I think he'd be wise to stay with Leeds full stop and resign in the summer. He would struggle in the prem and chances are Leeds will be in the Championship next season anyway.

I think he'll be like Jason Scotland, Steve Kabba and Gregorz Rasiak. Someone who can score them in the lower leagues, but can't cut the mustard in the prem. He should stay with Leeds.

Yeah no big loss really, though the toon really need to

A) Sign danny simpson

B) Sign a centre back

C) Sign an ESTABLISHED forward

that will do

Who are you looking at though, Last I heard Hughton was looking at Marlon Harewood for the same price which is crazy cos Harewoods shit

Newcastle should be looking at getting someone like Harewood again. That's the kind of player that gets you out of that division. Big and physical. Same goes for the centre backs.

You know, if Newcastle had have bought Hyypia for about £5million this time last year, which sound like a lot but isn't really, then they'd still be in the premiership.

That's the thing Harewood has had geordie experience, has scored 5 this season.

Simpson has publicly said he wants to stay at the toon.

Latest I heard was a loan move for Jack Wilshere for the remainder of the season.

Yeah I agree with this, When we were in the Championship he wasn't exactly prolific. I think he will struggle next year. If we go up I want us to sign either Rickie Lambert or Gary Hooper to partner him or Becchio depending on if Beckford leaves

I think it is for his age, 5 million for a defender who's in his 30's is steep as hell

Newcastle should look at players from portsmouth when they go down. Younes kaboul would be a good signing.

Tastycles mentioned how big strong forwards get you out of the championship, and he's exactly right. Players like Harewood, Zamora(when he was at west ham) Darius Henderson and jon stead. They do well in the championship and they get you up, but when you get promoted, you won't be able to rely on them any more. Henderson ripped up the Championship with Watford, and didn't score near enough for them in the Premiership, so they went down.

We do have Carroll and Ranger who are pretty quick who are just really having their first team runs.

Shola is pretty physical, then there's Lovenkrads who's an odd guy. He's not playing tomorrow because his dad died but he did get a hat trick in the cup.

5 million is a hell of a lot for someone that age, but compared to the 30 million they lost by going down, it isn't.

When you put it that way you're right, but there was no guarentee that Newcastle would stay up if they did get him, its a hell of a risk.

Coloccini's been great this season. A consistent defence and shit loads of clean sheets. Rare for Newcastle. The problem last season was the instability we had the entire season.

Yeah he was last season, but it was his first in english football

Yeah, Coloccini has been outstanding this year. Him and Taylor have been a big reason why Newcastle are going back up this year. Its good to have defensive rocks at the back isn't it Lee.

In other news Beckham has said hes going to continue playing after the World Cup, In other words Beckham Will NEVA RETAH. I suppose if Giggs and Neville are still playing he should too.

Peru must be joking

While Newcastle continue to be frustrated in their transfer efforts, a familiar face has been spotted training with United in recent days -complete with his trusty trumpet...

At the age of 35, free agent Nolberto Solano has returned to Tyneside while he searches for a new club, having ended a trial spell with League One Colchester.

There's no confirmation from United whether they have any interest in signing the Peruvian for what would be a third stint in a Newcastle shirt, but it would be just the sort of cheap stunt that would appeal to the clowns currently controlling our destiny.

Brought to SJP by then-manager Kenny Dalglish in August 1998, Nobby stayed for five and a half seasons until a worsening relationship with Sir Bobby Robson saw him move to Aston Villa in January 2004.

Returning from Villa in August 2005, Solano spent another two years as a Magpie, before joining West Ham at the end of the transfer window for family seasons.

Released by the Hammers in 2008, Solano had a trial with Watford before linking up with fellow former Magpies Nicos Dabizas and Laurent Robert at Greek side AE Larissa.
Nobby then returned to Universitario in his native Peru.

All told, he made 315 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 48 goals.
