It was a strange time. Just like a MAKING A DIFFERENCE Fatu.
My dad is a strictly casual wrestling fan, and he started following RAW the same time I restarted(post-SummerSlam 2013).
He enjoyed the Daniel Bryan vs Authority angle and whilst he doesnt watch every episode live, he makes sure to catch it on youtube weekly.
Today, I had a convo with him regarding the fact that Daniel Bryan returned(he is a fan of DB), and he told me that he stopped following RAW since the final show of 2014, when HHH and his wife returned. He said that the angle is stale and boring and something new needed to be done as it is predictable the direction of the show with the Authority in power...
It is telling, that even a DB return can't get him to be interested in it again as he like many casuals, and myself also, watch RAW to see how the storylines play out.
Has the return of the Authority perhaps caused many to toon out, especially casuals who watch RAW weekly without following the dirt sheets, etc.?
Also, he expressed distaste at the way the Authority was brought back by Seth Rollins and said that the WWE overstepped the line with Seth's threat to "kill" Edge. I found that part very interesting and kind of understood why WWE tries hard to not go over the edge most of the time as many people might share my dad's opinion amongst the casual fan base. Your thoughts?

The Bryan return not making up for the Authority doesn't really surprise me. It's basically Bryan vs. Authority II after there was a clear, definitive ending to the feud the first time. Bryan had move on to Kane and would move on to Lesnar, both of which were new feuds. WHy would I want to watch a feud that I've seen done perfectly already?
The attack makes sense, but I don't agree with him as much. It also shows why WWE is sticking with PG. If it was the 90s, ROllins would have crushed Edge's neck and a lot of people like your dad would change the channel. People would replace him, but they're people who like stuff like Jackass and things that are violent for violence's sake. There comes a point where you can't top that and those fans are leaving, but people like your dad are long gone and it's just the hardcore fan base.

Would Lesnar losing the title at Royal Rumble ruin all the buildup they had for him? Squashing the face of the company, ending the streak, holding the title for months without showing up, all of that buildup, to lose at the Royal Rumble when it could have ended at Wrestlemania, the grandest stage of all.. wouldn't that be an unsatisfying end to all of that buildup?

Nah. It would be bailing out on a failed experiment.
No it wouldn't. If it was a failed experiment then they shouldve taken the title off him earlier.. they already invested too much time in his title reign and his appearances. might as well hold it just a few more months to have a better end to his reign. Having Lesnar as an afterthought for WM is just stupid, considering he squashed Cena and ended Undertaker's streak.. he rly shouldn't be an afterthought, even if hes leaving for UFC he should go out with a bang, so that he can build a new mega star at WM. We're supposed to be expecting a big payoff from this much buildup

You don't want fans uninterested going into Wrestlemania. Lesnar as champion has failed and dragging it out two more months would be shooting themselves in the foot.

Except that he's far more likely to go out with a whimper like he did the last time he was leaving the company right after Wrestlemania. You don't want the main event of the biggest show of the year having Captain Don'tgiveashit just going through the motions.
Since you have said that, where did they go wrong with booking Brock, in your view?
I figured as much. He basically said, he expected the Authority to do the same shit they did before and wasn't interested in watching... and guess what? the WWE are having the Authority do the same shit for the first 2 weeks of their return, thus, those fans who would have given it a go to see the direction, would probably have followed my dad out the door. Funny how the WWE Top Brass doesn't realise that.
Actually, he also went as far as saying that the WWE should drop the Authority angle altogether and try something completely different...and it seemed he was actually enjoying the direction it was going post-Survivor Series, which is something another casual fan I talked to also said(and the guy is actually a teenager).
As for the attack, personally, I enjoyed that segment immensely, but I also became a fan during the Attitude era and generally enjoy the edgy stuff like that. It's just that I didn't see the segment the way he did and was surprised when he told me what he did, which made me understand why WWE doesn't 'toe the line' that often.

When he stopped defending the title for three months. There's nothing for the people to fight over other than a shot at someone who will eventually come back someday. The same thing happened in 2000 WCW when they devalued all the titles. If there's no reason for these people to be fighting, there's no reason to watch them.
People have been asking for an end to the crooked authority figure for 15 years now.
I did too but it's not for everyone.
With regards to Brock's booking... why is it that they never positioned anyone besides Cena to seem interested in going after Brock and the title? Even the no.1 contender's match at HiaC between Cena and Orton was a match between 2 losers basically...

Any possible reason why the WWE have booked him that way? Isn't that like telling the others on the roster, indirectly, that they aren't good enough to be in the ring with Brock?
Surely, they should have put an Orton vs Lesnar match at some point before the latter defected from the Authority... it was so easy to write as well, lMO.

I have no idea if there is any way to keep track of this but since 1999, has any wrestler bladed more than HHH? For all the "he slept his way to the top/buried so-and-so" talk, the guy bled a hell of a lot.

I can't get behind Daniel Bryan at all. He had an outstanding story from August 2013 to April 2014, but I just can't get behind him at all. I won't lie, I'm not Bryan fan, but I am a sucker for a good story. KB, what should I do?
