Was Kane's dislike of Pete Rose ever explained?

Oddly enough I'm watching Mania 16 and Pete literally popped up on screen as I was reading this.

I think it was just that Kane was a psycho at first and would have attacked anyone that was in the ring with him at the time. Rose just happened to be there and got beaten up. Rose wanted revenge for the next two years and Kane was defending himself.

The only people I remember from that "division" was Akira Hokuto and Madusa and it wasn't going to be Madusa. I can't imagine it would be Hokuto either though.
