Can you name a few of your favorite all-time WWE "surprise returns/debuts" in terms of execution, crowd response, how they were pulled off, etc.

Well that's an interesting question. The problem with Lesnar is he didn't really have any depth to his character because he didn't have any mic skills for the most part. He's just Brock Lesnar, freak of nature. Now that'll carry him a long way, but eventually he would need something else. I'm not sure what that would be, but Brock could have pulled it off.

Just wanted to get your opinion on this random thought I had:

WWE in the past 3 years now(10, 11, 12) is starting to look quite a bit like WWF a decade ago in 00, 01, and 02. 00/10 seemed to be the all around good years with the positives in the product easily outweighing the negatives and a lot of things making sense(as far as WWE is concerned anyway). 01/11 are both good years, but not quite as good as the previous year, and some on the insanity being added to the product did hurt it towards the end(ex: The Invasion & The Conspiracy). In 02/12, the product seems to focus quite a bit more on nostalgia and using old guys to get the new guys over(ex: Hogan and The nWo, Brock & Rock).

Does my opinion have any valid points, or am I just thinking nonsense?

He was the top star of the top company for the better part of a year. Taker never got close to that. Sting has been around longer and has been a bigger deal than Undertaker for the majority of that time.

But surely Undertaker is more famous around the Globe than Sting?

Coz he is. Sting is known but not at Taker level. Just no way.

I get that. It's what Punk said to Jericho 'You were never THE man like I am THE man'.

However in overall legacy attention and global stardom Taker's miles ahead.

What if Savage hadn't left the WWE in 95? How would you see him in the AE?

Who outside of wrestling fans know who he is?

Undertaker's a different level to him that has become an entertainment legend who has stayed relevent since 1991. Sting may be relevent to TNA/WCW fans but to very few outside.

It depends. If he was the washed up version he was in WCW, he would have bombed. If he was in shape and not a self parody, he would have fit in great. And it was 94.

Outside of wrestling fans, how many people know Undertaker? The Subburrban Commando Appreciation Society?

The relevant since 91 theory doesn't really hold up. From late 91 until late 96, Undertaker was a midcard novelty act with some quick main event runs. He didn't mean much of anything until Mankind showed up. Even Undertaker's world title run in 97 was a disaster. He didn't even main event the show named after him.
