this whole Hall of Fame talk makes me want to know your opinion on 2 guys I think deserve such an honor bestowed upon them.

1. Paul Heyman
2. Ted Turner

Do you agree that their impact on the business are warranting of such a distinction? Why/Why not?

Heyman - Yeah I guess so. He's nowhere near as good as he's made out to be though.

Turner - No. It was Turner's check book that caused the collapse of WCW, but at the end of the day he only signed checks. Also there's no way he'd ever get in with Vince being around, which I know isn't what you're asking but still.

So I guess you don't give Heyman the credit for making a small independent promotion and making it a national company, #3 behind the big 2, as a big deal? He'd be far from the first promoter to be put in, and it's not like he was shit at his on-air roles, either, he was pretty damn good at it.

And Turner did pretty much start putting Wrestling on Cable Television (with WTBS), that alone would be pretty worthy of it, since Cable TV is pretty much the reason wrestling is where it is today. And then couple that with owning the #2 (and #1 at some points) wrestling promotion in the country, I think it's deserved. His checks brought in the people, bu the failures weren't in him paying, it was in mismanagement by the people running the company, of which at the end he had no control over, as he was pushed out by the merger.

See, contrary to what you may think, I do know a bit of history. No need to explain it to me.

And no, not really as he made it a failure and the wrestling was terrible for the most part. The national part is what killed it. Also it amuses me that you try to convince me he should go in when I said put him in.

Cable is also what killed the territory system. And Turner paying for everything is what killed WCW and caused the WWF to become lazy and drive down the creativity.

I may have asked this before, but I can't remember. Are we passed the point of even trying to bring in a cartoony character into the WWE? I don't count Hornswaggle.

Should Zack Ryder be pushed?

Also, do you remember Hade Vansen, Hirohito, the R-Truth getting blown up, the "I Still Remember" note left to Booker T, and all those angles/gimmicks that were dropped without any explanation? What are your opinion's on them and some other ones I may have forgotten?

Like Doink, Earthquake/The Shark, Undertaker.

Or, why do we have to depend on realism when most fans want to use wrestling as an escape of reality? I'll provide an analogy I was told after your response.

No. He's a jobber. People need to let it go with him.

Yeah I remember them. Stuff like that just happens in wrestling and they're so minor that it's not like they're worth thinking about.

Sure they could work. It depends on how they're pushed but yeah they can work. We won't see one for awhile because Vince's current obsession is having everyone be as realistic as possible because the mainstream media will SURELY accept him if he doesn't have stupid characters because NOTHING in the mainstream has ever been goofy or stupid. Not once.

Do you think it could be a legitimate downfall for aiming for that much realism?

I was talking to one of the on-air hosts on Friday, and he was telling me about when he was at a station in Florida. They basically gave him free reign with the music (classic to alternative rock in case you're interested) and he was getting decent to solid ratings. I think a little after 9/11 this took place. A consultant for his show told him that instead of doing the sad and depressing news stories in his news segments, that he should do some news stuff that is fun and enjoyable. He did that and after a month he went from like a 3.7 up to around 7, and averaged around there. Tellin' me how he was going back and forth with Stern in the ratings department. All because of a tweak like that.

What does that mean to tie in to wrestling? Give the people a true escape. We have people like Wade Barrett, Big Zeke, John Cena. People. Don't get me wrong, we need people that are larger than life, but it couldn't hurt to add some cartoony, or legitimate characters instead of regular guys like Cena or Orton, out there. If that makes any sense.

Yeah, but when you think of a jobber, how often do you think: "Wow, that guy entertained me alot."

Hillbilly Jim comes to mind.

One of the reasons the Attitude Era worked is because of what you're talking about. You could go from Goldust being all freaky to Jericho vs. Angle in a 20 minute mat classic to Austin vs. McMahon and the drama that came with that to Edge and Christian playing kazoos all in a 2 hour show. There was something for everyone and it let people figure out their characters for themselves instead of someone saying "Ok you're going to be this guy. Don't worry if it makes no sense. You'll get used to it."

See, a lot of this is the fault of the lack of a true minor league system. Back int he 90s at various points there were at least three companies that we would now call FCW. You had Heartland Wrestling Association (Cincinnati), Music City Wrestling (Memphis) and OVW (Louisville). The guys that were there were under developmental deals, but the companies were much more like the minor league system in baseball. They built the guys up with a lot less influence from the parent company and IT WORKED. For instance, John Cena was a cyborg, Rico was more or less what John Cena is now (although a heel) and Batista was a demon. They go to WWE and that completely changes, making those years and characters they developed worthless. Think back to the 80s and people that debuted. They could hit the ground running whereas now it takes people awhile to get their characters together, which partially is due to a lot of guys being hotshotted. Guys need to come up in their late 20s/early 30s, not their early 20s.

Wow I went on a bit of a tangent there. Anyway, yeah there needs to be a mix.

Do you think it's possible for Owen Hart to get into the WWE Hall of Fame with Martha Hart so desperate to take money off of the McMahon family and WWE in general?
