Last night at the Night of Champions ppv, the unlikely team of Daniel Bryan & Kane defeated Kofi Kingston & R-Truth to become the new tag team champions in WWE.
Over the past few months, we've seen some very surpisingly entertaining segments and storylines featuring the two. The anger management storyline is something that could've turned out completely awful but has been consistently entertaining in my eyes.
As part of their "therapy" Kane & Bryan were paired together in a tag team match last Monday on Raw to determine the #1 contenders for the tag titles. Somewhat surprisingly, they won their match and got their shot last night. After some problems, Kane & Bryan won the titles.
This could be ultimately beneficial for the tag team title scene. While it's true that Bryan & Kane are a "thrown together" tag team, they're a team with great chemistry and are two of the most over wrestlers on the WWE roster at this time. They can add a level of general star power to the tag team division in WWE that hasn't really been there in several years. With several solid teams making up the tag team division right now, coupled with Bryan & Kane, the potential for having the strongest tag team division in close to a decade is there.
While I agree that I'd prefer Bryan being in the main event picture, that's just not going to happen right now. He & Kane can still both be very useful and bring a level of relevance to tag team wrestling in WWE that we haven't seen in years. It might not be the ultimately ideal use for them, but it's one that's paying off and I think it might be the best use of them at this point in time. After all, would you rather see Bryan & Kane just aimlessly floating around the mid-card scene having random feuds and matches with Zack Ryder, Ted DiBiase or Alex Riley? Not me.
