Kane: A Missed Opportunity?

Before any of you get on my back yes I know Kane has been quite successful and has a lot of credentials on his resume so to say but hear me out before you all start bitching:

As we've seen since Kane took his mask off, he an cut some of the best and most believable promos (which is difficult to do considering his character), now I always wonder why someone with such mic/promo skills (which WWE seems to love) was kept "mute" for so long or hardly spoke at all. I know it's because of his character but I still see they missed some incredible promos that could of been given in the attitude era.

The same could be said of the Undertaker nowadays. The Undertaker always delivered some of the best promos out there, considering his character. But, The Undertaker is kept quiet to keep "the mysteriousness" off his character. I know this has affected him, but could the same be said for Kane? Kane is a 2 time world champion and in my opinion should be a lot more.

So what do you reckon, if Kane had spoke more/lost the mask in the attitude era and cut intense promos like now, do you think he would of been more successful back then? Do you agree that it's a missed opportunity?

I think a sick, sadistic, psychotic Kane would have been amazing in the 'Attitude Era'. His mic skills would have really helped a lot of his fueds and pushed him to a status that only few in wrestling ever achieved. Personally Kane should be at least a 5 time champion, but the man is content with his job and doesnt complain. Is it a missed opprotunity? Only the WWE and Kane can answer that one.

Personally i think the worst thing that happened was him losing the mask in the first place. b4 that he was imposing and mysterious.

Just cause he was mute to start with doesn't mean they necessarily stopped him from cutting really good promo's, ever think that he was just very bad on the mic work initially and also the mute was part of his character since he was supposed to have been burnt alive. They had Paul Bearer and Mick Foley doing the talking for him and it worked. much the same as Undertaker initially had Brother Love and Paul Bearer doing the talking for him.

I don't recall his Issac Yankem character ever talking either, but that could be lapse of memory.

When he finally did speak with the voice enhancer and then without it, it was epic

But losing the mask and turning into a caring giant like he did with Chyna and when was tagged with XPac was a huge step backwards, that only helped others not him.

So i do agree he should've talked more, but i don't agree he should've lost the mask and that he consistantly cut good promo's, that's only been the case recently.

I think a sick said:
um he was. his character came about in the Attiude era.
and what did he do? he attacked everyone brutally and unmercifaly

but they changed that within a couple of years

Someone needs to go back and watch the Attitude Era.....

Unless you meant Kane having mic skills in the Attitude Era would have helped him, well I disagree he had Paul Bearer for a while and so it made him more creepy, scary by never saying anything or explaining his answers. Kane is one of those who doesn't need titles to back up his career, his career itself speaks for itself.

I love it when people say something would have been better in the Attitude Era when they clearly never watched it.

Kane now is a million times less intense, sadistic and dangerous than he was in the AE.

Also don't understand the complimenting The Undertaker's mic skills. He's decidedly average. No real range, he just talks slowly and in a deep voice and still manages to mess up his lines in almost every promo.

Kane peaked between 1998-2001 and making him talk would have humanised him to a degree that would have subtracted from the character he had. So yeah, I think it would have done much damage than good. You don't need to talk to get to the top, see Taker, Goldberg, Yokozuna, Andre and many more.

Totally agree, Kane seems to be happy with the way his career has turned out which I am happy about. After hearing and seeing interviews with him, he seems a decent guy so glad he is satisfied with his achievements.

But

I believe that WWE could have done so much more with the Kane character than they have done. This was a gimmick that had serious money all over it, and was PERFECT for the Attitude era.

After his debut, Kane was over. There was no denying that. He was a 7 foot masked monster who was legitimately terrifiying and threatening. He should have been pushed to the moon. With his back story of being burned in a fire, and his evil look, the man was a ready man monster heel, and should have been booked on a huge winning streak, literally destroying and bloodying everyone in his way, before having a dominant run with the title.

It is a disgrace that Kane only ever held the top belt for 1 day until his current run (which is well overdue). It could be argued that with Austin, The Rock, Triple H, Big Show, Mankind, Undertaker, and the emergence of guys like Jericho Benoit and Angle etc, that the main event scene was full at the time Kane was at his best, and that there was more sense in pushing guys like Austin and Rock than the big red monster, but I think Kane should have had his time, and he could have been something incredibly special in wrestling

it wasn't a missed opportunity in that sense. there was absolutely no problem with Kane's character jus his booking. the only shame here is his lack of championships. i truely marked out hard at mitb and have been since and will be as long as he holds the belt.
