I think that this was just Johny's way of clearing the path so that he can possibly get a WWE contract. He figures that with Shannon Moore gone and Funaki getting old, that WWE needs it's next great undersized jobber and that could perhaps be him. I mean it's not far fetched. He's been working out, getting his physique in order, and thee is hope that the cruiserweight title will be brought back now that Shane Helms is coming back. I mean they do keep referring to him as having held the title the longest. And the more they say it, the more the concept of the title itself being brought back becomes a reality.
But as far as pay goes, Devine was not that bad off. He can spout his jealousy over pay all he wants, but he essentially is nothing more than extra in a movie. You wouldn't have John Doe go up to the director and say that he wants to quite because he's not making what Brad Pitt or Denzel Washington or George Clooney are making. Shit, he shouldn't even go complain if he's not making as much as Pauly Shore. He should be happy to be there because it creates exposure. And besides, Devine was just talent enhancement.
Every single gimmick they tried to give him, he flubbed at. When he and was part of Team Canada, he became the nonexistant member. He sunk into the background. Hell, even Tyson Dux passed him up and was talked about more. When Team Canada ended and he was one half of the Paparazzi's, he once again was outshined. This time by Alex Shelly. Fuck Johnny, you got outclassed by a guy who's previous gimmick was.... The Baby Bear. Shameful. And then, they put Johnny with Raven, a sure fire elevator. But amazingly, someone else was elevated by Devine's presence. Kaz! I won't even get into how sad that is. But through all of this, it showed what Johnny Devine's true talent was, talent enhancement.
I mean Iron Mike Sharp, The Brooklyn Brawler, and Barry Harowitz all had their calling at one time or another and they each will be remembered for the stars they made. It's a thankless job. Sort of like the Stuntman, except you actually get on camera. But Johnny couldn't even handle that. He had to complain about MONEY! But before any of you side with him, did you know that the notoriety that he got from being on tv with TNA helped him to command more money in the side matches that many performers do? Sure Sting makes $500000, but he's exclusive to TNA. Johnny ("Mr. I Want More Money") however is doing indy dates and making maybe $3000 to $3000 while the guys who actually wrestle there all the time are making $900. So doesn't that make him the Pot who called the Kettle Black? And he can do these dates pretty much all week and walk away with $15000 to $20000 for a week of work. And with the Canadian Exchange rate, it makes it a bit more. And yet he complained and quit?
Tell ya what Johnny. Go out and get a minimum wage job in the US and then complain to be about 50 friggin thousand dollars a year. Hell, that would be an upgrade for alot of people who go out daily and bust their asses daily, with hardly any off days. The can probably go out and get two guys to job for that they paid the guy who they actually gave the X-Division title to. Yeah Johnny, you had it hard. It's very hard to be talentless, lack charisma, and be so bad that ANY other guys look good. Yeah Johnny, you were being held back from being.....talent enhancement elsewhere.... if you're lucky.
