John Cena is now a 15 TIME WWE World Heavyweight Champion!

While I didn't want Cena to win the title, if the plan has always been Brock winning the it at SummerSlam, Cena was the only option. It's too soon for Reigns, Wyatt or Cesaro, and they are the only ones who could get a babyface reaction out of the group that was in this match. Now, if they go with Cena vs. Kane or something off the wall like that, then I will hate the decision with a burning passion. Sometimes they've put the belt on Cena just because they want to put the belt on Cena, but hopefully that's not the case here and there actually is a direction they're going in with it. I think ultimately, Brock will end up putting someone over (probably Reigns), and ending the streak was probably part of that plan.

I'm disappointed. I knew it was coming of course, but until it actually happens, there's always that little bit of hope that maybe the WWE will go against the grain and give the strap to a fresher talent. Fine, people will say Reigns, Wyatt and Cesaro don't "need" it yet, whatever. Though I'm extremely worried about what's happening to Bray Wyatt lately. I'm just tired of this notion that we as WWE fans have to conform and accept that this is the right way to go. If I can't express an opinion as someone who is bored to death of John Cena, and I'm labelled an "internet fan" or an "IWC mark", again, fine. I do not hate John Cena. I'd rather he win it over Randy Orton. But it's bogus when people who may have an issue with this particular outcome are unfairly labelled.

I see this "he was the only logical choice" thing keep cropping up. Since when have WWE ever used logic in decision making? :icon_neutral:

Believe me, I'm looking at the bigger picture. I don't "hate" Cena having the straps, but I don't like it. To me, it's a sad state of affairs that the WWE can't rely on anyone but Cena, or maybe Orton going forward with the big prize.

But, I have ALWAYS given WWE the benefit of the doubt, and I'll continue to do so. 8 times out of 10, they've delivered..eventually. Lets see how this plays out. But I will reserve my right to bitch about Cena for all eternity. :D

The guy doesn’t deserve it, plain and simple. Was he on top during the hottest periods in WWE? No. Has he caused any boom periods in wrestling? No. Is he as good a wrestler as Flair? not by a long shot. It reeks of Vince trying to erase the past and that is the best parts of wrestling, not todays hodge podge. Whats next? will he beat Hogans longevity record? or Brunos? Cenas a great superstar in the business but he can’t stand on the same level as greats like Flair, Hogan Rock and Austin, even though WWE is trying their damnedest to shove him up there.

I don't want Cena as champion but given the current circumstances it's the only thing that makes sense.

Cena vs Lesnar at Summerslam, which Lesnar goes over.

Lesnar vs anyone else in that match made no sense.

You can quite clearly see who the 'Cena Haters' are from the responses on here. Of course you're not going to like him being the Champ because you don't like him. It's easy to understand.

Anyone who doesn't have a problem with Cena has given their opinion, and although not thrilled, they don't have a huge problem.

I'm in the second boat. I like Cena possibly because my young son does, and I have no issue with him being champ at the moment. It seems like Brock is going to come back at Summerslam so who better to match him against after beating the streak, than the top boy in the company. I think it makes it a better reason for Brock to go after the title against Cena.

If Orton had won - could you genuinly beleive the authority would allow Brock to take on Orton?

Del Rio/Wyatt/Kane/Cesaro - No point in a heel being champ against Brock

Reigns - I doubt they would want to feed Reigns to Brock yet

Seamus - No particular reason for him to be double champ

I don't mind Cena winning, but I felt his win was rather anti-climactic. At least for me, he barely seemed to register throughout the match. I remember spots with Kane, Sheamus, Orton and to a lesser extent: Reigns and del Rio. But other than him winning, I can't recall any moment where the camera was especially interested in him.

Of course, the real problem was that he was barely involved in the primary conflict. The whole issue was that the authority was sabotaging the match to ensure Reigns loses. So Reigns should've been the star of this match, or Cena should've been in his place. Yet I can't support that either because Reigns has yet to prove himself in singles competition.

But even Wyatt kind of had a story- his 'reject' clan having the opportunity to take the gold. Cena didn't, so his victory just kind of felt hollow. But it also makes the most sense that he win, if the champion faces Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. I just think they needed an actually story backing up his victory.

Realistically if the plan is for Lesnar to win the strap at Summerslam then it was going to be a face that won. With that in mind who were the faces in this match? Reigns, Wyatt(arguable), Cena.

Does anybody really want to see Reigns or Wyatt lose to Lesnar yet? I don't and therefore Cena is the only logical option.

Where does this leave us? I can see Lesnar winning the strap at Summerslam, then defending it at Night of Champions against Cena again before going on until 1 of the other big 4 PPV's where he loses it. If the WWE want to take the title away from him they could always have him win a gruelling war with Cena before having Rollins cash in.

I really want to see Daniel Bryan take on Brock Lesnar. That just seems like the perfect underdog story. So hopefully he returns while Brock is champ and will take the belt from him.

Poor Cena though. The Fans will hate him for this.

There is logic if the reports that Bryan may need new surgery are true or even an option. Sadly for Bryan this has gone too far now, it went from 2 months to now 3 to now possibly 6... WWE can't stay in the holding pattern so they have to go to plan b.. which in this case is Brock at Summerslam.

There was no way Wyatt v Brock is going to fly just yet, although it will be a great feud when it happens as Heyman and Wyatt will do some great stuff together. There was no point in building Cesaro at this time if you really just want to build Reigns, and Orton and Del Rio are heading for the exit/sabbattical door (Randy hasn't had time off in a while, he either forces the issue with a suspension or gets hurt to make sure he can "go play) so realistically Cena is the ONLY option, not the popular or even chosen one.

People need to decide what the biggest problem is, is it that Cena won again? is it that WWE has botched so many character builds that they really CANNOT screw any more up? or is it that the hallowed "16 World Titles" of Ric Flair are now in jepoardy?

I remember a time not too long ago where the same butt hurt was being thrown about cos Triple H might end up breaking that record. Accusations of it just being about him breaking Flair's record were everywhere. If Flair's record HAS to be broken, and unfortunately due to the nature of title reign numbers it has to be... then which would you prefer? The son in law of the boss, booking himself to the slot of "GOAT" and surpassing his idol. Or the guy who still after 9 years of being "the guy" is doing more Make A Wish, more merch, more media, more miles and actually performing int he ring more often than a lot of the other talents, he's STILL not asking for time off or going home for 3 months of the year like Kane, Taker, Big Show etc... he takes time off when he cannot physically compete and even then stays involved...

Transplant that ethic to the 80's and you have NWA champ Ric Flair, sure Flair was kissing more mothers than babies and partying replaced media commitments... but he got those 16 titles because he was the most dedicated, go to guy for a company to build it's shows around. He could drop a belt to someone to freshen it up and then be just as over re-winning it. Cena IS that guy in WWE whether you want to admit it or not.

I'm going to go with what most are saying on here.
Cena winning is not a bad thing at all.
The way I see it happening (until Wrestlemania 31)
Cena loses to Brock
Brock loses to Bryan
Rollins cashes in and beats Bryan
Leading to a Rollins vs Reigns at Wrestlemania
Be interesting to see how this plays out with Cena/authority etc

I am fine with this. There really was nobody there that could have realistically won. Their stars are just not strong enough to win. It's WWE's fault that they have held off making new stars for so many years. Cena winning is not a slap in the face for the wrestlin fans. It's just evidence that WWE are scared as fuck to do anything because they haven't built their stars enough and have burried so many good ones and the ones they have now are just not in the position to win it and go on doing something interesting and not end up like Sheamus or Del Rio who are just.. there.

People going crazy and insane in the comments and on these forums and others about this is just freaking scaring me. People take shit so seriously. Soon we will end up like normal sports fans who kill each other over bullshit.

So John Cena just won the MITB Championship match and became a 15 time World Champion! I'm happy with this as I feel it would've been bad timing for any of the other competitors and I also like John Cena.

What do you guys think? Where will this go from here?

I think that this time, at least, this isn't going back to the same old thing, or a refusal to build stars. The WWE's hand was forced this time around.

Going in, I believed that if a heel won, then Bryan would be back next month, but if a face won, then Bryan is out long term, and the face is effectively subbing for Bryan

The fact that Cena won makes sense to me. Some of his other reigns were questionable, but not this one.

The plans were to have a "Buried Alive" Match (Bryan v Kane) at Battle ground, and then Bryan v Brock Lesnar at Summerslam. Cena winning tells me that Bryan won't be back by Summerslam, so Cena will be doing these matches instead.

It was either put the belt on Cena, scrap those planned matches, or hold them off until Bryan comes back (whenever that is). The easiest thing is to find a replacement.

Roman Reigns isn't ready (he hasn't had a solo PPV match yet), and Sheamus's days as a main eventer have passed. ADR may be leaving soon, and Bray and Cesaro are heels. Maybe if it were 2015 and not 2014, then Reigns, Cesaro or Wyatt could have been options, but they need more time. If Punk were still around, he may have been an option as well.

It also makes storyline sense. Bryan's wife Brie was fired. Nikki is Brie's sister, and Cena's girlfriend. So, there is a link between Bryan and Cena, linking Cena to the Authority and their wrath. Maybe Steph could punish Nikki for bringing Brie to the PPV, and then Cena comes to her rescue. So Steph punishes Nikki to get revenge on Bryan, Brie AND Cena.

I would be more pissed off if Bryan was being buried and they are going back to same old Cena. But this time it was necessary. It is obvious that Bryan is more injured than thought, Cena had finished his program with Bray Wyatt, and didn't seem to have another feud in the offing, and there is a storyline which would make more sense to use Cena in, because of the Bella link, then using Reigns, who is more likely to fight Orton at BG and Triple H at S'slam. Besides, maybe Reigns could get his "Wrestlemania" moment next year, like Bryan did, so putting the belt on him earlier would hurt that.

By the way, I have real fears that Bryan's neck injury is as serious as the initial neck injuries that SCSA and Edge got in their careers, which put them out for a year. If so, Daniel Bryan may not have that long a wrestling career, as both Austin and Edge were forced into retirement eventually. Hope I am wrong though.

All the cena haters. Like it or not no one greater than cena in wwe. Actually this time cena win set for summerslam mainevent. in wwe talent is important but also luck and momentum is also important. John cena always has those things. He is a hardworker and no 1 in wwe. With DB is unavailable then obvious choice is randy or cena.
If wwe want the title with authority then randy or roman is best choice. But they do title with brock. So cena is obvious choice for title.
My guess is brock wins at summer slam and NOC. Cena wins at HIAC. Rollins cash in and run through until bryan comeback and win.

Nothing new here. John Cena was bound to win it and a lot of people knew this for a fact prior to it happening. You can forget about unpredictability in this PG Era. Now watch John Cena lose the title to Brock Lesnar in Summer Slam 2 months from now. The only predictable result that I'm totally fine with, because I actually route for Brock Lesnar more than anyone in the business. Even though he's just a part-timer unfortunately.

In all honesty, it was probably the right choice to make. I agree that John Cena as WWE Champion has LONG since lost its luster for many people, I feel the same way to a large degree, but it was the safest road to travel down at this point in time. It wouldn't have bothered me to see Bray Wyatt win the title at all, I don't think very many would have been any more thrilled if Orton, Del Rio or Kane had won the match, and Reigns & Cesaro simply aren't ready. Sure, it would've generated a ton of buzz if one of them wound up winning, but what if they just simply crashed & burned after winning the title? That's especially true for Roman Reigns, a guy who's been on his own for all of 3 weeks, so rushing to put the title on him probably wouldn't have done him any favors in the long run. Unpredictability every so often is most welcome, but not when it's going down just for the sake of being able to say "I bet you didn't see that coming", especially if it doesn't make any sense.

Besides, with Brock Lesnar returning to WWE for his match at SummerSlam, WWE wanted to put the title on someone that they know for a fact will be viewed as a marquee opponent for him. With Bryan out injured, POSSIBLY needing to undergo a second surgery to fix what's wrong and John Cena being the only one on the WWE roster to come out of ahead in a feud against Lesnar since his return; Cena vs. Lesnar for the title makes the most sense. Renewals for subscriptions to the WWE Network are coming up soon and with Bryan out, to quote Triple H, "there's always a Plan B" and Cena vs. Lesnar will probably be a strong draw just for the probability of Lesnar taking the title from him. Of course, he'll almost certainly drop it back to Cena at Night of Champions, then Cena will be "officially" tied with Ric Flair for having the most World Championship reigns in wrestling history.

I think that this time, at least, this isn't going back to the same old thing, or a refusal to build stars.

Very true. That so much of the storyline in the near future had been built around Daniel Bryan caused the company to alter some carefully laid plans, imo. Injury will sometimes do this, and the organization can attempt to "wow" us with some far-flung ideas.....or realize there's no sense throwing out everything for a short-term fix.

To that end, installing Roman Reigns or Cesaro as world champion would be exciting, yet short-sighted. Neither one is ready yet, and if Daniel Bryan was still around, we wouldn't be seeing either guy lift the title from him as early as last night.

John Cena was the best candidate for the job, notwithstanding the silly "hatred" of him, including being booed in his hometown last night. Do you think he's the champion too much? I don't; I think he'd be on top a lot more if it weren't for the negative reaction a lot of fans have been conditioned to bring him. WWE has correctly gone with the flow.....and I doubt it bothers Cena one way or the other.

Personally, I hope Cena stays on top for a long time, this time. When conditions are right for him to step down, some of the younger guys who are being carefully groomed will be ready. It's all good.

I knew he was going to win. Vince always goes back to his golden egg in times of trouble. Especially with all that has happened business-wise. What better time than now? I see a fairly lengthy reign as well.

This isn't going to be a "run". He's holding the belt until SS when Lesnar takes it from him.

I am ok with Cena winning. Bryan got hurt, and it is obvious that Cena is the go to guy in these situations. I was really hoping Kane would turn on the Authority and win the title, or have Kane be the plan B and take the title for one last run as champ. The fact is though Cena is a proven draw as champ, and he was honestly the best option to hold the title in this case. I would love to see Brock vs Cena at Summerslam for the title as Brock needs to avenge his loss to Cena. Reigns vs Cena is another option that I would like to see. So all in all I am not really disappointed at all.

I think that the time of someone being a Cena hater vs a Cena lover is over. If you look at my past post than you will see that I never had a problem with Cena. Ive actually defended him a few times on here because of his role model status and amazing matches that he has been involved in. My problem isnt with Cena. I dont think Cena is "stale" or whatever term you want to use. I loved his feud with Bray. My problem is wwe creative. Seriously another clean Cena win? No drama, No Controversy, NOTHING!!!

Wyatt, Cesaro, Del Rio and Reigns weren't serious options for obvious reasons. Kane betraying HHH and winning would have been good. Have Kane beat Orton at Battleground, HHH gets desperate and asks Paul Heyman for Help...BAM Brock destroys Kane and Heyman is now with the Authority. Or hell have Cena win by being helped by HHH but maybe have it like Cena wasnt aware that HHH helped him. Or have DB help Cena win....Something. At no point in that match did I think that anyone but Cena was going to win....But the first MITB was full of twist and false finishes that I actually believed

At 15 title wins...the title Cena Hater needs to be abolished. Lets see if the same people throwing that term around is still saying it when Cena is holding the belt up for the 20th freaking time which would probably happen within 3-4 years.

What happened, WWE?
Do you guys really not have any new ideas?
Every time I blink, Cena is champ.
There were LITERALLY sooooooo many other and better ways to go.
It's redundant at this point.
The only chance of a saving grace here is if they have an AWESOME storyline to go with this.
*fingers crossed*

It does kinda suck that they go to the Cena well so often but in this case it just works with the tough scenario that they're in. DB getting injured/needing surgery along with Brock in the near future severally limits their options, half of the guys in that match weren't ready yet and the other half(minus Cena) wouldn't have been good opponents for Brock since they're either heel and/or not big enough of a star. If Brock and SS wasn't coming up so soon they would've had other options but considering the situation they went with the only logical choice.

It is also worth noting that Brock is a heavy favorite to walk out of SS champ, so it would do more harm than good to have the first WWEHC title reigns of up and comers and Bray, Cesaro and Reigns being so short. Cena on the other hand will be totally fine even if Brock wins clean, so I'm sure there's another strong reason for picking Cena as well.

At first I wasn't bothered, as I was viewing it through my armchair booker lenses (like most of us digest the WWE product): the belt was put on Cena for Bryan to take it off at Summerslam; he is a transitional champion whose character can obviously take the loss; a title loss to Bryan at Summerslam and then fading back into obscurity would do a lot of harm to the development of a Reigns/Cesaro/Wyatt. All three deserve a long title reign when it comes.

So at first I was cool with it . . . until just now when I saw @Jack-Hammer's thread in this very section about how Daniel Bryan may undergo another surgery, and might not come back for another 6-12 months, let alone be back in time for Summerslam.

So the next logical Summerslam opponent would be Lesnar, right? Well, if what we've been told is correct, he doesn't have a lot of dates left, so as much as I would like to see him win it, WWE creative isn't creative enough to book a champion that would barely be able to offer his physical presence (Even though it is possible, with Heyman's boasting and incorporation of some well written "Via Satellite" vignettes - I can hear Paul Heyman now: "Introducing, VIA SATELLITE, the 1 in 21 and 1 and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion . . . "). So that means that either A. Lesnar won't even get a World Title match until the Royal Rumble or B. Cena would win their Summerslam encounter, which makes the ending of the streak pointless not only because they could have had made the match a bigger moment and have Cena take the streak and turn heel in the first place, but also now that Lesnar's won it, the rub should go to a young guy like Cesaro or Reigns.

So now with Bryan and Lesnar out of the championship equation, now I'm scratching my head as to why Cena got the belt. I really can't call it, unless it's as simple as we're in for a good 6 months of a boring ass reign until Lesnar comes back.

But then again, we could get a curveball thrown and they have Wyatt beat him for the title. Either way, I'm tuning in to see if they surprise me or follow my expectations of a boring ass show.

Cena was the right choice.

Cena vs Lesnar at Summerslam is the best main event possible for WWE. It's the biggest PPV draw they have for Summerslam and at the same time WWE Network renewals.

Wyatt, Reigns, and Cesaro need to be given long 1st title reigns when it happens, not place holder reigns which is what would happen now because WWE is still hoping for the best with Daniel Bryan.

Cena loses to Brock (Summerslam is frequently won by heels). They rematch, giving DB time to heal. Then Daniel Bryan comes back to face the biggest challenge of his life Brock Lesnar. Perfect storyline for DB. Just cross your fingers he's not out longer....
