on a side note, to all you guys referring to him as japanese and asian, sure he has that descent but the dudes an american through and through... New York if i remember correctly. Seriously how many actual japanese people do you know that are called Jimmy?!

James Yun is his name, born in Hollywood, California. You can tell he is American by how non-asian-accented his voice is when he does his promos right now.

I think he will be good, its a quirky gimmick that just might work.

The man has skills, it was obvious both in his promo and in the ring...it's the gimmick that's got to go. Unless it could somehow become entertaining, but i doubt it. LOL Yet, I hope WWE doesn't bring him back later as the typical asian from the orient either...his gimmik deserves some thought. In fact, what do you guys think Jimmy Wang Yang's gimmick should be? And has anyone see him wrestle before? What was his gimmick then? Why am I asking all these questions? LOL Curoius I guess.

He use to wrestle in WCW i believe, i don't remember the name of the group but it was a group of supposed oriental ninjas, i believe he was one of the three, I know jamie Noble was one of them...noble was the one with the zorro like look cause well he wasn't oriental, wang didn't have a mask of any sorts....thats all i can remember

WWE has to realize that everyone doesn't HAVE to have a gimmick. You don't stick a stupid ass gimmick on him just for the sake of him talking. Akio has very bad mic skills so he should just not talk and just wrestle awesome matches because he is a great wrestler. Kill the gimmick and just give him a gimmick like Jushin Liger used to have where they put on great matches but don't talk.

Kill the gimmick and just give him a gimmick like Jushin Liger used to have where they put on great matches but don't talk.

They tried to do that with Ultimo Dragon a few years back, and it failed horribly. Bar his entrance, The audience were about as interested in him about as much as im interested in a threesome with oprah and Dr Phil. American audiences, well 'family wrestling fans', need a character. They cant let matches do the talking. They have to have it put accross as a soap opera. Its a shame as i like wang,i think he's a pretty good wrestler, but i just think its going to turn out like tajiri: A good,exciting wrestler eventually turning into a comedy character. It happens to all asian wrestlers.

Yeah, I hate the new gimmick. It's HORRIBLE! He was better as Akio, just another cruiserweight. Mind you, he's not "just another" cruiserweight, but I think he should go back to the gimmick (which wasn't really much of a gimmick) where he was wearing the cool Japanese jacket and just wrestling. You can't push that? That's the problem, I think. WWE can't just push wrestlers anymore without a stupid gimmick. When you're as good as he is, he doesn't really need a gimmick. Certainly not the stupid cowboy one.

Smackdown caters to a younger audience, thereby they need to put a gimmick in order to keep them watchin. Pure good wrestling with no commentary is hard to get someone over like a Wang Yang.

I have to disagree with the Ultimo Dragon comment, he was over with the fans, it was Vince McMahon that did not like his wreslting style. Ultimo Dragon will always be respected amongst true wreslting fans.

I don't mind Jimmy's gimmick, it entertains me, so it does it's job.
