Jericho's Character

Jericho has done some of the best heel work I have seen for a long time this week, and last week.

Its amazing that he can be the main antagonist of Shawn Michaels, Get on the wrong side of Ric Flair, Piss off Triple HHH and lay out both the Champ and no1 contender in the space of 8 days. On top of bringing in his own back up.

Can't wait to see what he doen next week. I hope he gets chance to main event against Trips in a title vs title fight soon

I am not sure if Jericho's heel turn was supposed to be at that time. I get the feeling that he is being used as a replacement for Orton as top heel in Raw. I'm very happy as he is very talented. I will be the first to predict that the SummerSlam main event will be Triple H vs. Chris Jericho for the WWE Championship. I think Jericho will win. Jericho is doing great work, is very good in the ring, and is ready to become WWE Champion.

I LOVE that Chris Jericho is a heel again! Honestly, the only time I remember liking him as a face was back when he was still torturing Stephanie. But like someone said, some people are meant to be heels. Chris is definitely one of those people. He has more energy and more... charisma (that's not quite the word I'm looking for, but it'll do) as a heel. Obviously he's got the in-ring skill, but since he's come back, I feel like he hasn't been able to show off what he can do as a character. He's definitely more entertaining now that he's turned.

And the turn itself was interesting. It gives him a character depth that you don't really see anymore. And I hope that this is a legit feud with Shawn and not a one-time thing for NOC. The WWE could really build a good story behind this and get the fans invested in a side.

Firstly, is there any real reason why I just automatically picture you as a girl with a truly high pitched voice, like nails on a chalk board? I mean, I don't even know you are a girl.. and I definately don't mean to offend. I just have that classic "bubble-gum blonde" picture in my head. Anyways, I need to get on-topic, otherwise this would be spam.

I wanted to mainly correct you on one issue. While I'm unclear how long you've been watching the W.W.E. programming (apparently since 2000) I think you may have missed a couple previous monthes.

Chris Jericho & Shawn Michaels have had a program working within each other since April. So this isn't just one time, leading into Night of Champions. If anything, I'm really unclear if H.B.K. will even wrestle at NoC. I believe he'll interfere, possibly attack Jericho, setting up a longer feud.. possibly a match at the Great American Bash, or if they truly push this angle.. Summerslam.

Jericho has the ability to be a nature heel. He has the cockiness and selfish attitude that'd make you believe hes truly a prick. H.B.K. is the perfect opponent for him as well, as both men just light it up inside the ring and I don't think they could truly have a bad match on the worst of moments.

I wasn't really ever a fan of "face Jericho" merely because he can't sell being a good guy. His best selling qualities were using attitude filled harassment jokes toward the boss's Daughter. That in itself should've shown the world, even as a face.. hes technically still being mouthy like a heel.

Since returning, he hasn't done a whole lot of anything. So hopefully this heel turn leads him somewhere, finally.

I'm going to say it's the pink writing. And if the actual way I write is another factor, I don't know. But I am definitely not blonde, nor is my voice that high pitched, but I AM a girl. And an unoffended girl at that.

But I haven't been watching in the few months or so. I just started watching again a couple of weeks ago. Obviously should have done some research, but thanks for the update.

I agree with everything you said about Jericho. He definitely leaves a bigger impression as a heel, like you said because he's so natural at it. And I think it says something that when he was the Undisputed Champion, he was a heel.

What if they have this storyline that Shawn Michaels will be out for a longer period.

Jericho has no choice but to face someone for the IC title at NOC? Then out of nowhere, Shawn Michaels come out and interfere in Jericho's match, causing him to lose the IC title. This will create a longer feud for both of them.

I must admit, originally I was against a Jericho heel turn since he has only been a face for only 6 months. But after seeing his promo on this weeks Raw, I loved it and I appreciate him being a heel to cover the loss of a heel Mr.Kennedy.

Like previously mentioned, Jericho is better as a heel than a face. Being a heel comes so natural to him. His finisher 'The Codebreaker' works better with a heel in my opinion.

I sorta want him to go to Smackdown during the WWE draft. Think about great matches including Y2J vs The Undertaker, Y2J vs Batista, Y2J vs Rey Mysterio and Y2J vs CM Punk. These could all happen if he gets drafted to Smackdown. However, I am dying to see a Jericho vs Kennedy feud so I'm sort of stuck on the fence. Nonetheless, I really like his character at the present moment and I hope we see some great matches and rivalry's.

Jericho is a great heel character. That said, I don't like a dark heel character out of his as much. Hes better as the obnoxious heel, not the Orton like heel. Jericho needs to feud with someone that is not Shawn Michaels, and he needs to head over to friday nights in the draft. Moving him over would be easy, as at NOC it just sets up at Raw Vs Smackdown feel. The IC belt needs to be given to someone else though.

I prefer Jericho as a heel rather than a face, he shines in his promos just like he did this past monday. I think he´s going to lose the IC Championship at Night of Champions to some mid or upper carder (maybe Hardy or someone from the draft). I can see Jericho drafted to Smackdown! and I would absolutely love that, I think his wrestling abilities could shine in the blue show and add a new serious contender for the World Championship.
I think WWE finally saw that Jericho can be in high profile feuds and his feud with Michaels proves it. Plus, Jericho is a pro in handling his character.
Let´s just wait and see where Jericho is heading this monday, I´m interested to see his character develope even more.

I absolutley agree that Jericho is much better as a heel. He doesn't care about trying to stay cool in his promos, like a lot of people do, he just whines and complains like a little bitch, like how his main reason for turning was the fact that he once got booed against HBK.

A lot of people think that Y2J is too small to be in the main event, but then again.... Shawn Michaels does it. Speaking of which...These two have similar styles, gel together brilliantly and put on amazing matches and I think this is the perfect rivalry that will launch Jericho into real title contention for the first time since WM18.

I love the turn... After lackluster JBL matches (what else did you expect?) and now with Orton on the sideline, I think Jericho cna step up and be the man. Although, I sincerely hope that he doesn't revert to the whiny, completely cheap heel of old; and instead, put on decent, dominating matches from time to time...think Orton's concussion gimmick.
IMO they might've done wrong actually drawing the heel/face line. None of you can honestly say that this wasn't one of the biggest story lines you wanted to see advanced.

If JBL becomes top heel....instead of Y2J... I will no longer watch raw.... that is a promise!

My two cents on Jericho:

Jericho as a face has failed because he has no direction and the writers/bookers have had no intention to do anything with him as can easily be seen from everything he's been written into since his Raw return/Armageddon.

I think his return was botched from the word go. Build up was great and practically palpable. Then imo they waited just a too long to debut him: People were literally screaming for him at No Mercy and with the unexpected Cena injury that happened I would have had Jericho's surprise (not really) return, and then have him win the belt, rather than then the lets make HHH look superhuman competing in 3 matches (apparently the ONLY way HHH would not get up for the 10 count) and make the Championship a hot potato ending that they decided to go with instead.

Granted had that happened the Save Us campaign would have been short lived but the pay off would have been bigger and better than what actually happened months later. The symbolic passing of the torch (from who BTW?) into a literal passing made no sense. It was just a poorly thought of set up for the Save Us code to interrupt thereby facilitating Jericho's return).

Now for me, returning to "Save Us" only holds up when you do indeed "Save Us". Anything else is a failure. And since wrestling is scripted, his failure was written as such. Now anyone who writes that failure into a story and then ends it without a Rock/Rocky II/Rocky III like redemption is really bad at story telling or had no plans for a successful Jericho turn to begin with.

For the most part, stories in any medium just don't build up characters to return, fail, and then forget about the quest and/or goal afterwards. Hell there's even an actual expression for it: The character makes a "Triumphant Return"! not a mediocre return, or a losing return, or a technically victorious but still ultimately failed return...

So the fact that Jericho didn't win the belt and then apparently forgot about Saving Us and instead got shifted downward into a program w/ at the time announcer JBL was terrible. Look, if I was cheated out of the main event and title picture I would have dealt with fatty JBL eventually and really would have made winning the title and thereby "Saving Us" my top and only priority.

BTW anyone notice that when Orton runs down his laundry list of guys he beat during the Age of Orton he says Jericho even though Jericho actually won the match via DQ interference. JR or any commentator never corrects him and Jericho's storyline was never written to make it into a point of argument. Doing so could have easily bounced him back into a title feud at any time. I wont even mention in great detail the Hardy mess up/tragedy that could have, and should have, given Jericho the MITB spot rather than the at the time unproven and henceforth almost perpetually losing C(ookie) M(onster) Punk. Who by the way I'm a fan of also.

Anyway, Jericho can work as a face perfectly fine. Its all in the way you push him/write his story lines. In my eyes it's abundantly clear people dont want him in the main event. Now who exactly those people are is a matter open to debate. Vince? Steph? HHH? HBK? Other politicking wrestlers? Writers? Bookers? Agents? some or all of the above? I dunno

Now that he's back as a heel I too hope its as a smart and strong heel, that we all know he can be; with this weeks Raw ending it seems highly possible. More importantly I pray he isn't just Orton's top heel understudy, just keeping his place warm till Orton's return then drifting back into top mid card limbo once the task is done.

Heel Jericho should be smart, stabbingly sharp in his scheming and machinaitions, dripping with sarcasm and one liners, and for the most part be able to back it up in the ring if need be (though with help at certain times), rather then the Undisputed Champion Human Pooperscooper

Now with that other heel run fresh in your mind and speaking of you know whhho, was I the only one who felt that HHH really didn't have to stretch his acting range much when he said something to the effect of the following?

"You know Chris ever since you came back to "Save Us" I've been looking for an excuse to bury... er I mean beat your ass" (Apologies for my faulty memory)

And yes, I know at the culmination of that match Jericho was standing (unofficially) victorious. However you have to admit HHH wouldn't lie down clean, and it took a Cade run in to stop him.

Yes I'll say it: I believe HHH doesn't like Chris at all, privately, publicly and professionally. He will work with him if and when he has to, like when his preferred opponents are injured, but will try to make him bad.

Anyway I guess that sums it up. As a confirmed Jerichoholic I will keep my fingers crossed for this heel turn to be a step up, but history has written so far that he's not what "they" are looking for in terms of a person to bring up to a consistent main event level like HBK Cena HHH and Orton.

Sorry for any bad typing, typos, grammatical errors etc. this was an off the cuff rant!

Well I'm a little late on this but anyways.....

I'm Loving he Jericho heel turn. It gives his character so much more dimension. He wasnt honestly getting over that well as a face. Now he can be that prick that everyone loves to hate. My only gripe about this is that I hope he isn't that whiny obnoxious heel. He's good enough to be so much more than that.

With the direction they were going on Raw last week maybe he will become the leader of that stable that has been rumored. He would be the perfect person for that role. I also hope that Jericho will come out of this fued with HBK the victor. He doesnt really need it but it will help in his pursuit of the WWE title.
