Jericho's Character

Raise the rebel from its grave
Watching jerichos character progression as of late, it seems as if there almost turning him heel with by not following threw on heel actions.

As if he swings the chair, he'll be following threw on heel actions, but will get a face reaction, so he gets boo's for not using a chair.

This intrigued me as ive not seen to many charachters changed to heel this way. (if there has been, please feel free to mention example)

Im actually quite liking the change, as Jericho clearly plays a better Heel, or at least a Cool heel, or a tweener type character, then he does a face.

Question being, do you enjoy the way there changing his character, or do you think they should do the all out heel way and just swing the steel chair already?

Personally, I like Jericho as a cocky face/tweener, not necessarily as a heel, so I'm hoping they don't turn him heel anytime soon when there are others that could benefit from a heel change much more (ie, Batista, maybe HHH).

But the way I see Jericho's character, at this state of the game, is solid tweener. Against Michaels, he seems like he's a heel. Against JBL tonight, he's clearly face. The whole thing with him not wanting to use the chair against anyone, I see that as being more along with the "injury storyline". Jericho's played the sympathetic role in the trio. Michaels is "I'll do what I have to", Batista is "I'm an idiot, rawr", and Jericho is trying to sort things out. Now, it seems like he's scared to use a chair because he's afraid of injuring anybody. They could be playing this up to try to tone down his character, make him say things like "You know, I have kids now, and I know how hard it is for them to see their dad hurt, so how can I do that to someone else's family?" That'll get him some boos, of course, but its face-boos, which is really odd. Since I like Jericho more as a cocky tweener than a babyface "eat your vegetables and let's all have a hug" or a "diabolical I'm gonna piss on your grave" heel type of guy, I'd like to see him wrestle (mind the pun) with these feelings for a few weeks until someone just pisses him off and he lays them out with a chair shot. Then he can simply go "to hell with it, its my job".

I really am enjoying the unknown status of Jericho's character. I'm a huge fan of his, so I am always interested in seeing where the gimmick will take him. I agree with NoFate that Jericho's character is at his best when he plays the tweener role. I feel like that's where he is at right now. With the events that have happened over the past month, it looks like the WWE is almost feeling out a heel turn for Jericho, which wouldn't be a bad thing. Especially now with RAW's top heel in Orton being sidelined for a bit.

I hope they turn Jericho a full heel. I mean right now I can't stand to watch him. He will grab a chair and stand there looking. Hell, last night on Raw, he had the perfect person to hit JBL. But he doesn't and he just stood there debating. I mean the heel Jericho would have hit everyone. He is more aggresive and more energized as a heel. He cuts better promos and seems to have better matches when he doesn't care about the reaction of the crowd. In WCW when he was a face he was boring, and when he turned on all the cruiserweights he became a better character. So, I hope he turns and then stays on RAW. There are not many faces on Smackdown for him to wrestle against if he is a heel.

After watching One Night Stand, I'm unofficially convinced that a new trio of Randy Orton, Batista and Chris Jericho were set to be alligned. That is before the Orton injury. I still strongly see Jericho and Batista becoming teammates.

Another interesting note. They're using Jericho's character similar to when he first made it big as a heel in W.C.W.. hes either losing matches, or not winning them, and as a result hes throwing a tantrum with chairs. This will likely progress into him turning full heel on Shawn Michaels. (especially with the reports of H.B.K. on the Highlight Reel next Monday)

Another unknown factor is where exactly they were going with having Jericho attempting to cheer on Shawn Michaels, only for Batista to "hurt him" that much more. I was assuming Jericho would flat out attack H.B.K. after Batista rolled him across the line.. and they'd use the storyline that H.B.K. was someone Jericho looked up to, but he let Jericho down.. that'd also play into Jericho & Batista teaming up.

If I'm being entirely honest, I think he was set for a big program over the next few months that would have put him over as a mega face, before being fed to HHH (he's got to turn).

The Orton/Batista thing at ONS was leading to something, and I can't see a lot of interest in a Orton vs Batista match, on the grounds that Batista sucks and Orton is the most underused Heel ever. I like his in ring work, the concussion thing was awesome, but he needs a promo writer. He has the potential to be the heel that you'd buy the PPV just to see him get leathered. I thought, Orton is going to drop out of the title hunt for a while, Jericho's appearance in the Michaels match would lead to a confrontation between him and Batista. This then leads to an Orton interference, to turn Batista heel, and a HBK save for Y2J.

They've shown they like to have their big stars tag team at PPV, and it would work better undercard than headline, NWO 2007 I'm looking your way here

I think that Jericho has reached that stage in his career, that he has accomplished all he is going to accomplish, and the fans respect him for that and now he is just playing himself in the WWE.

It's not as if he will lose any fan base by turning heel, and he will not get much more of a following if he tries to get more fans to like him.

He is kinda in a moot point, he will play heel against the good guys and face against the bad guys, That doesn't mean he is alligned in anyway to one side, he can just have a great match against anyone.

To be completley honest i think that this is a good thing, Jericho will continue to put on amazing matches with everyone in the company, because he is good enough and he can, but he does not need to worry about being over with the fans, either as a good guy or bad, because everyone knows how good he is regardless.

To be fair, i think he will stay mainly a good character, but one with a question mark. Y2J will continue to be heel against all of the top babyfaces and a face against everyone else. Thats the way he works best. With that much experience under his belt, Jericho can put anybody over, and the years he has spent as both he has got the skills to act accordingly, why not use him to his potential. I doubt he will ever get another title run, so putting people over in the upper mid card is his job.

Chris Jericho is Shawn Michaels. By this, I mean he can easily switch between heel or face at any given moment, just like HBK, has probably worn his last Heavyweight/World title already, and is okay with being upper mid tier, used to enhance the younger guys. Both wrestlers are "utility" men. Need to fill up some time? Give him a microphone. Need to have a good technical match to offset a PPV filled with big guys who only brawl? Give Y2J a program with someone. Personally, I love Jericho. It is that never ending doubt about where is allegiance is that keeps me wanting to watch. I think the WWE is actually using Y2J very well right now. I like that I don't know if he is a face or heel.

I personally think that Chris Jericho deserves a World Title shot. What they Should do is send Jericho to SmackDown and send Edge to Raw.Edge can drop the title to Matt Hardy,Jericho can turn heel, and they can fued over the Title,There can be a fresh U.S. Title scene(may I suggest Burke and Benjamin) and we wouldn't have to see Edge and Vickie. But thats besides the point. That would be a great way to utilize Jericho. He is boring as a face and tweener but he does the cocky heel perfectly. And it would be nice to see Jericho to get the title he deserves.

Personally I love the cocky Jericho. I also wished that he would have helped HBK up and then nailed him. That would have turned him heel. I would love to see him as Champ but that will not happen with HHH as Champ. Have him turn heel and be cocky. Align him with Batista on Smackdown or some other character, then go for the gold. Maybe that would be better for his character.

I must say that I was rather confused at first with this is he a good guy, bad guy, or both stuff, but the more I see, the more I like it and while he hasn't delivered an extremely memorable promo or match, the tweener thing definitely suits him the best. Maybe Y2J will turn heel on HBK or maybe HBK will turn heel on Y2J. It's obvious, it's been building up to a nice juicy feud between the two. Maybe ONS was the kicker, Jericho looked up to Shawn as a hero and like all heroes eventually do, they let their adorers down. I think that Jericho has been taking it slow just waiting for that awesome feud to bring his best stuff. Whether that's as a face or a heel, obviously it would be better as a heel cause that's what he does best, I think the proverbial sleeping giant in Jericho is soon to be awoken.

It's hard to tell what direction they are going with him, which is actually quite refreshing. Jerico returned with a lot of hoopla, but it seemed like all the excitement dwindled quickly.

Maybe now, with Orton hurt, they will turn Jerico heel, and I think he's certainly capable of taking Orton's place for awhile.

I could go to see a HHH/Jerico fued. Both guys are great on the mic, both have monster egos. Could work out very well.

Jerico was always a great heel, but his babyface character is funny also. I used to fall flat when he used to say all that shit about Stephanie, trashbag, brutal, botomfeeding hoe.

I also loved when the scumbag Jerico tied Chyna to a chair and hit her with a hammer!

He can easily play both sides, but without Orton, I think a heel turn would be good. He could be turned back very easily.

Jericho just turned heel on raw tonight and beat up Micheals.... finally, Jericho is back like we like him... as a heel.. you see, some wrestlers we re born to be heels and when they are face.. they are stale... guys like TripleH, Edge, Jericho, Kennedy, Kurt Angle, RIC FLAIR!!!!!!

Make sens to turn Jericho heel... Since Orton is out and Chris dont want to go to Smackdown.. He ll be raws to main event heel and probably just give up the IC belt and go for TripleHs WWE Championship... good feud

Jericho is no better as a heel than he is a face. Ok if you look at him in 1998 when he was more of a Santino heel he was entertaining, and possibly 2005 when he was hamming it up, he was good. But other than that he's an awful, boring heel. just like he's a boring face. People can praise his abilities all they want. But the fact is that he was only intresting for a year or so in WCW, two months in WWE in 1999, and 6 weeks in 2005. Other than that he's instantly forgettable. That might have something to do with WWE, I don't know. What I do know is that this turn won't suddenly make him live up to all the hype that he recieved when he made his return.

I hate it when my #1 and #2 favorite wrestlers start a program with one another....siiiigh. But damn they have excellent matches. I can't wait to hear the promos they cut on each other leading to Night of Champions....when was the last time the IC Title was worn around HBK's waist?! I've always like Chris Jericho, since he was languishing in midcard WCW matches and as a white-hot heel in WWF/E. I think this character turn was a way to give Y2J something to do (since the Hardy suspension botched plans) but I think this will turn out better than I and others I know thought.

well its times like this when i realise how much i hate Triple H the wrestler, despite his poor crowd reaction (by Jericho, HBK, Hardy and even Cena's standards) here he is with the gold, and you know while he's around Jericho will never be allowed to shine properly.

Personally i would love for Jericho to become the top man in the business because i think he is really cut out for it, heel or face he could have great programs against HBK, HHH, Punk, Kennedy, Cena, Orton while he's in the title picture. If JBL is allowed to do it I am sure Jericho can, no doubt he'll do a better job than the current stale maineventers on RAW.
Well I strayed a little there, personally because of my optimism i am hoping this angle with HBK will elevate him to the position I just mentioned, It would be great to see a face Jericho take the title from a heel HHH, but I could live with heel Jericho doing the same to a face HHH

That was a classic heel turn, a shocker for me. Jericho is great as a heel and this will be an awesome feud, but that turn had some shades of Shawn's betrayal of Jannety, throwing him through the glass. Tossing him into the Jeritron's screen, that was sweet. But it got me thinking, is Jericho going to be maybe mocking or imitating some of Shawn's past "sins?" It's just a thought. That would tweak his character even more instead of just saying "I hate you," he'd be attempting to say "I'm gonna make you feel how you made everybody else feel, It's time to finally suffer the full consequences of your actions." I think it would be nice, put some real emotion in the feud.

YESSSSS now thats EXACTLY what we need! All we've been seein was basically endless, boring feud's *i want that title dude.... so fight me!* kinda bullshit. But the way HBK and Y2J are goin at it my fuckk its got me excited, almost in a sexual way! haha thats wat the WWE need! Get some GOOD feuds, GOOD storylines behind em and some GOOD emotions in not only the leadup, but in the promos AND the matches! Jericho as a heel is gonna be amazing once again.

Jericho in WCW in 1998 was the fn man. He was pure gold, why they did not push him to main event level is beyond me. Check out some vids on youtube of him during that time, the best thing WCW had. IMO WWF messed up his gimmick big time, he should have stayed like how he was in WCW which was pure awesomeness. WWF watered him down so much, maybe not as bad as other WCW stars but it was not the same.

I bet the only reason why he was so under used is because of HHH. I hope they do something with his character. But they need emotion like someone said before me. Having him heel at least will bring more spotlight to him because there is nothing like a heel to draw attention.

I just love it to death whenever something is negative, how its always constantly falling onto Triple H.

Ratings suck.. Triple H. did it.. Wrestler's character isn't developing properly.. Triple H. did it.. McMahon's hoax give-away isn't bringing in a ton of ratings.. Triple H. did it.. hell, I'd even be willing to bet Cancer is directly created from something H.H.H. did at some point in life, because everyone knows if something's wrong.. its his f*cking fault, every damn time.

Honestly, Chris Jericho was amazing in W.C.W.. but was he ever, EVER truly a Main Event worthy Wrestler? Uhm, no, not really. They let him defeat The Rock on countless occasions. Hell, they let him make history, by being the first Undisputed Champion, being the only guy to defeat both The Rock then Steve Austin in back-to-back matches.. but it still didn't get the guy fully over as a Main Event wrestler.

And before someone says "Well, he M.E.'ed Wrestlemania." Yeah, so did Bam Bam Bigelow, do you want a fricken cookie?!

The fact is, Chris Jericho (especially more so since returning) just lacks in general. Hes always been a better heel than a face, and hopefully with his recent heel turn it'll help him progress. Is it Triple H.'s fault if he doesn't, I'm sure countless individuals will figure out a way to blame him for it. But the overall fact is.. no, its likely not.

I'll be the first to agree that H.H.H. has done some stupid shit thats put him in a bad spotlight, such as the crap over Umaga's tights being the same color. (if that was even true) But Chris Jericho is responsible for Chris Jericho getting over. Not Triple H..

Think of it this way.. Jeff Hardy didn't need Triple H. to get him over with the fans, he did it his own way. Shawn Michaels, Steve Austin, The Rock, all of the truly great Superstars didn't need Triple H. to get them over at all. Kurt Angle, John Cena, the list can go on..

So while Triple H. is very responsible for screwing with several things, I doubt trying to ruin and hurt Chris Jericho's 2nd go in Professional Wrestling is it. Well, unless it was Triple H's idea for Jericho to get that stupid hair-cut.

Seeing how much he was used, and seeing as how he was in the Main Event on Raw, I think Jericho is finally getting a push in the right direction. While I was kind of hesitant to accept his heel turn, seeing as how he hasn't been back too long, he proved me wrong by becoming one of the most hated man on the Raw Roster within a weeks timespan. His match with Triple H was pretty good as well. I can see Jericho becoming Raw's top heel in Orton's absence. Seeing him in a title feud with Triple H or Cena (depending on who wins their match) would be gold. I'm thinking after his feud with Shawn Michaels he'll be put in a program with the Champ, and the matches will be excellent with either Trips or Cena. It looks like Jericho is finally getting the push he deserves.

I personally love Jericho's heel turn, it almost makes me feel as if I'm watching old WWE programming again or something. Jericho is just a great heel and makes for great television, and I'm excited to see what else they can do with him.

I think its a great idea they're turning jericho heel in this fashion. His tease to the fans about not swinging the chair is giving him more than if he didn't hit hbk with the chair. Jericho's new persona is much more interesting than
his classic heel persona.

i think this has already been said but this heel turn is very good, as long as they dont turn him into the whiny heel that he always used to be. He is definatly one guy (heel or face) that is more over than the Game (why is he champ again?). I think RAW has a new top heel
