Is TNA Going Back to its Old Ways?

Ok this is my first thread but it is something that i have noticed.

Now i cannot claim to be a TNA fan from the start but i have followed them since 2009 when the x division still mattered at least a bit more than it has recently. Under this line of thought is TNA currently going back to its old principles, with many more X Division stars making their return (though not on the roster as yet). We are seeing a new storyline emerging in the X division and i at least find this something to be excited about.

It is not the only area however to seem like the 'old days'. The KO division is gaining more respect again (i put it down to Mickie James being champion and also Pritchard being fired). It is like the x division, in the sense it is developing storylines but differs as they are not just around the title. A personal feud between ODB and Gail Kim is on the table. Honestly when in either of these divisions have we seen more than one feud going at a time.

So my question is this. Do you think TNA going back to its old ways and if so what steps do you think they should take?

I've thought this, but didn't want to jump too quickly to say that they are.

Although I enjoy the fact that Mr. Pritchard made story lines more cohesive; I was really disheartened by him neutering both the knockouts, and the X-Division. When I read of his termination, my first thought was maybe these two staples of TNA would return to former glory.

I was upset when Crimson, and Joey Ryan were released recently, but when I read the Dixie said that cuts had to be made, because they were bringing in other talent like Petey Williams, and Sonjay Dutt; I wasn't quite as upset. As much as I like Crimson, and Joey Ryan; I like Canadian Destroyer, and The original Playa from the Himalayas so much more!

Again, I think it is too early to tell; but I'm hoping. To answer your question as to what steps I think they should take;

I understand they have to streamline costs now that they are taping live on the road, however I would LOVE to see Alyssa Flash (in whatever version they put her) added back, plus Sarita, and Rosita. Also, I would love to see Roxxi back (with the Voodoo gimmick). That would be a stacked women's division.

For the X-Division; I would like to see it go back to one-on-one matches, and honestly; I feel like they do not need to add too many people to keep it interesting. I still want to care about Kenny King, but can't quite yet. If Sonjay and Petey stick around, those are solid workers. And although most aren't a fan, I'm fine with Rockstar Spud. Add two more into the mix, (pretty much anyone, just make sure they have a reason for being there) and the division is solid. They do not need 20 guys to make a great X-Division. Just six or seven that we really care about.

I am really hopeful that both the X-Division and Knockouts continue to be nurtured. Before Pritchard;I remember the rumor that the KO's and X-Division may get their own show. I still want to see that happen. Even if it was only an hour.

Sorry I was long winded, but I really appreciate this post.

If they are or aren't they certainly need to go back to the way it was too start with IMO they were more successfull in portraying antertaining product then, not the money they were generating ofcourse but the show was engaging there was some great stories, pretty good overall action and it was Total and Nonstop. not Impact wrestling that still has TNA logo's everywhere but they want it to be called Impact Wrestling not TNA.

as for the other thoughts, Mickie James is not gaining respect for the Knockouts, if anything i think she's lost the plot and is stale now, Terryn Terrel vs Gail Kim is the only saving grace for that division atm.
Hell they had Brooke mention that oh btw ODB has always been an active member of the roster yet she hasn't wrestled in how many months? and they still have Eric Young around despite him only being used in backstage segments once in a blue moon, makes no sense.

I personally hope so.

The XDiv has always been the backbone of TNA. When Hogan came in he basically killed it off with one blow concentrating on the heavyweight title more so. While relivant, the heavyweight championship is not the staple of the company, it's more of a clone of the WWE at the moment.

If TNA wants to survive it needs to do something that WWE won't even attempt due to it's PG style. Those including XDiv, KO, and even bringing in more extreme style matches. I'm not saying we need to have a table match every night on Impact, but something where weapons are allowed like it was in ECW. People want to see the old ECW stuff again, from a violence point of view and a sport kind of view.

I bet if people saw a Tajari vs Super Crazy match today, TNA would be making loads of cash as we all know those two put on some of the best matches in ECW and they made ECW a ton of cash because of it. TNA needs something like that, and to return to that glory, AJ Styles has to get out of this "no one" gimmick, and being the AJ Styles that was punishing you with a Pele kick. Kaz and Daniels need to go back to the XDiv too. The KO division is still weak, and that's because Kong isn't in the mix. When Kong was in TNA she was a devastating heel and it really helped move the company along with the KOs. What TNA would need is someone with the heat of a Kong in the KO division. Right now nobody fits the bill.

It's "old ways"? What old ways? TNA's 11 years old, you need to specify which period you want back. Do you want the 2002-2005 TNA back, the 2005-2009 or what?

Either way, those periods have a few things in common. More emphasis on the X-Division, better KO Division, better tag division and a bunch of WWE guys Main Eventing. The overall product was not storyline driven, telling a story in a match was the job of only the Main Eventers, overall the wrestling style was geared toward a holy shit moment and cool sequences and the building of characters with multiple layers was non-existent.

That era, 'the old TNA', is when TNA actually stapled itself as "the company that sucks". Well, it didn't staple itself, the fans stapled it as such. When TNA was putting an emphasis on the X-Division, the fans said it's too spotty and that's all TNA knows how to do. When TNA had people like Steiner, Booker, Nash, Sting, Foley, Rhyno, Jarrett (among many others) at the top of the company at some point in their careers, TNA got the usual hate for pushing ex-WWE/WCW/ECW stars and not pushing young talent. Moreover, TNA was bashed for being in the Impact Zone all the time (rightfully so) and that it generally looked like a bush league compared to the WWE. All the shit that TNA is getting today is because of that era, when most of the hate for TNA was accumulated. That's why a lot of the fans' gripes these days seem so out dated. Whenever I hear someone bitching about TNA not pushing young guys, or only putting over WWE guys, or doing random things, dropping storylines out of nowhere, trying to bash the WWE or any of that crap I always ask them if they're living in 2008.

If you read comments by fans back then, you'd think TNA is worse than it is now. I personally think so because it took me four years to start watching the product. It sucked before that. On top of the usual TNA-isms such as lame storylines and weird decisions, whenever I watched I couldn't stay awake for more than three minutes because 90% of the matches were about teh flipz and some lame-ass sequences that made wrestling faker than it already was. I needed story, I needed drama and I needed good old wrestling, not acrobatics. In addition, while everyone was busting their nuts over the Main Event Mafia, I thought it was pretty lame. I've never had any interest in Nash, Booker and Steiner, so naturally I had zero interest in seeing them together.

The only saving grace for the show back then was the tag-division, the KO's and AJ Styles. Everything else blew.

So, in a way, I agree with what you're saying. I don't want the old TNA back, but I do want them to pick up the good things they were doing back then and add them to today's product. I'd love to see a better tag-division. I'd love to see a better KO's division. I'd love to see Curry Man.

TNA doesn't need to go "back" to do anything. Just remember what they did right and cut out what they did wrong. Problem is, right and wrong is subjective in wrestling and as internet history shows us, the fans will always think it's wrong and have a better alternative until their alternative becomes the reality and they find something else to bitch about.

"We want young guys and fresh talent on top!" (Bobby Roode, Austin Aries, Chris Sabin, revamped Bully Ray, James Storm, Magnus)

"... WE WANT SIX SIDES HOGEN N BITCHOFF RUINED THE TNA!!!"
