Is Sin Cara Gone From WWE?

YOU WILL RESPECT MY AUTHORITAH!!!!
On Raw last night, we saw Sin Cara on TV for the first time in several months in which he scored an upset victory over Alberto Del Rio. Since we haven't seen him in so long, the idea that it might not be the actual Sin Cara, AKA Mistico, didn't occur to me. However, the Sin Cara Del Rio faced last night, as it turns out, wasn't Mistico but was Hunico. Hunico was Sin Cara for a while, feuding with "the real" Sin Cara. I noticed that he had a tattoo, looked like an eagle's wing, covering his right shoulder and part of his pectoral muscle, but I didn't pay it any mind.

However, there's talk that Sin Cara might actually be finished with WWE and that Hunico will portray the character going forward. However, no official word regarding Sin Cara's, who's real name is Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde, status with WWE has been given. However, another sign pointing to Cara's departure from WWE is that sent a message on Foursquare, whatever that , from his gym in Mexico City this morning. The message was in Spanish and read, "Buenos días!!! Un día más gracias a dios y ahora vamos al Gym con toda la actitud saludos y no me espanto buuu." Translated into English, it reads ""Good morning!! One more day, thank god and now headed to the Gym with all (positive) attitude. Greetings and i dont get scared booo." So, I'd say that he's gone.

For quite a while, there's said to have been a lot of unhappiness with Cara since his debut. There's the feeling that he's underachieved since he arrived, was injured too often and, allegedly, behaved backstage as if he was a much bigger star than he was. I can't say that I was ever all that impressed with him and that the promise didn't at all live up to the hype. While Hunico is a bit bigger and not quite as agile as Sin Cara, which I couldn't tell from last night, he definitely didn't botch nearly as much as the original.

Is anyone going to miss him? Hunico has proven that he's more than capable of playing the character at a much higher level. How many 8 year olds are going to care that it's a different guy with a tattoo on his shoulder now? He still flies around the ring and wears a mask, so what difference does it make? Hunico pinned a guy who was world champion six weeks ago last night, which is more than Mistico did with the character in what, two years?

Mistico just didn't work in WWE and Hunico is a much better fit. The original can head back to Mexico and be the biggest star in the country again. All is fine.

I suggested this. WWE are clearly big followers of Y 2 Jake. I'm retired, guys, so please don't come to me with any job offers.

I think WWE planned to do away with the Sin Cara character all together as his shirts were going for £10 the other week when I went Raw. I guess replacing him is better than launching a new masked superstar. Obviously they'd have to leave it a while as they hyped up Cara quite a lot and he's failed to live up to expectations. They probably just thought it was easier.

Personally I'd prefer it if Cara didn't have a massive visible tattoo. But he has now and I'm sure I'll get over it.

You broke my heart Mistico....

After all the hype not only was WWE going to be disappointed in him, but the fans were disappointed in him as well. All that talent but none of the drive. Oh, well. He'll come back to Mexico and be a big star again.

I do like that they are pushing reset on Sin Cara and using Hunico. A surprise win over Del Rio is a good start, maybe even get a feud going with ADR. This coupled with the return of Mysterio and news that Kalisto (formerly known as Samuray del Sol) will be brought up on the main roster very early next year has given me some hope that the masked men will get some limelight in 2014 after a dismal 2012 and 2013.

.... he definitely didn't botch nearly as much as the original.

If this is so, it shoots to hell the expression "No one is expendable", doesn't it?

When a person can do an impersonation of someone else.....and do the job better than the original........well, I can only imagine what Luis Ignascio Urive Alvirde must be thinking, watching "himself" on TV.

Personally, I didn't catch the switch at all, which either puts down my powers of observation.....or shows how easy it is to play Sin Cara. Jeez.

Man, I'd love to see more masks on the main roster since I always enjoyed seeing masks in ECW and WCW. Mysterio, Juventud, Psicosis, La Parka etc...

Maybe they can go the extra mile by building up the new Sin Cara as well as Kalisto and take ADR off of TV and bring him and Ricardo back as masked characters in a similar vein to their gimmick in Mexico and The Indies. Masks are usually a quick way to sell merchandise so It could benefit them.

Anyway, it's a shame that Ignascio never got a chance to atleast spin ample time in NXT to learn the WWE style because he would have been more effective then IMHO.

Maybe they can get rid of the doofus looking teal and shiny gold get up that he wears too? Sin Cara looks like a cartoon character, and it hurts any credibility they would want the character to have. It's similar to Los Matadores.

Is this truly a good look for luchadores in Mexico? Really?

Let's put it this way: Rey Misterio was given an updated wardrobe that doesn't scream "OLE!" and has been incredibly successful.

Was wondering how come Sin Cara looked so much bigger yesterday. I like the look of Hunico playing the character, a feud with Del Rio would also be fairly interesting if booked properly.

Most likely, especially while he idiotically breaks kayfabe down in Mexico. While I feel its sorta shady to still be touting him as THE Sin Cara, by citing his history in mexico, which was earned off of Mistico's hard work, you can hardly blame them. Cara couldnt wrestle, couldnt talk, and couldnt stay healthy. He was practically useless. Hunico, on the other hand, has proven himself very capable in the ring, and can cut promos. He could use with losing a bit of weight and becoming faster, but if his work continues to develop, it will mske up for him not being a real-life X-Men (as cara felt like he was at times)

Hunico actually portrayed Mistico in Mexico before the other guy. They were both Mistico and both Sin Cara lol.

Sin Cara still sells merch so this can be a good thing. It especially helps that Hunico can speak English.

They're gonna build up Cara so that Vince can put him against Mysterio at Mania and fulfill his wet dream of breaking the mask record

I hope you are all happy!

You never got behind Sin Cara from day one. You bagged his lighting, you razzed on his matches. You REFUSED to invest in him, or even give the guy a chance to impress. He was a Triple H "signing",and knowing the contempt for Triple H on these boards, you didn't want to see Sin Cara succeed, because his success would be a success for Triple H, and you don't want to see that.

You would rather invest in some generic Mexican who rode a bicycle to the ring, and looks like Konnan. Some guy who couldn't make it as himself, so now they repackage him as another character.

We can't judge Mistico's success in WWE, because he never came in as Mistico, so we don't know if he could have stood out on his own, without the Sin Cara character. But I do know that Hunico has failed to get regular programs as Hunico.

WWE threw Mistico out there, and expected him to perform day one. With some more training, he may have been more entertaining. But don't blame Mistico that he didn't reach your impossible expectations.

Making Hunico Sin Cara is a better alternative for him than the only other possibility, being future-endeavoured.

Sin Cars was a total bust but it's not ALL his fault. WWE saw a Guy who was as popular in Mexico as Cena is here in America. They took a Guy who they knew couldn't speak English (strike one), put a mask on him that covers his whole face, restricting him from showing facial expressions (strike two), and then they take the high flying luchadore and tell him to not do,the things that made him popular and learn the "WWE Style" without spend much time in FCW/NXT (strike three).

He was set up to fail. The only reason he lasted so long was because he was HHH's first signing and the WWE is desperate to replace Rey. Now he can return to Mexico and rake in the pesos. Hell there is even a chance TNA will throw him a few bucks to be a part of the X-Division.

But my fondest memories of this version of Sin Cara will always be how on this very forum, before Cara even made his debut people were predicting a Cena/Cara WM Main Event lol.

Sin Cara was a huge waste of money and I've said so since day one. He's a clumsy, injury-prone wrestler who could barely work a match without getting himself killed. His popularity in Mexico is irrelevant, WWE isn't based in Mexico and 99% of their fanbase knows nothing about Mexican wrestling and doesn't care. WWE pushed him to the moon and he kept getting hurt, because he doesn't know how to wrestle, plain and simple. This is 100% Sin Cara's fault. He was given EVERY opportunity and couldn't succeed because he couldn't cut it in the big leagues. Hunico taking over the role is for the best, he's a superior wrestler, but I'd prefer if they just retired the Sin Cara gimmick for good. Nobody cares about him.

And to the guy who said that people were predicting a John Cena vs. Sin Cara main event at WrestleMania....hahahahahahaha. I sure as hell don't remember EVER seeing anything of the sort. I do remember a lot of people saying he would be a huge star, but main eventing WrestleMania? Who the hell thought that could possibly happen?

No one cares if Mistico is gone from the WWE i certainly wont miss him. It is indeed sad when the backup can play the character better than the original ones does. Sin Cara is barely used,so i really didnt notice he switch at all cept he looked a little bigger than before muscle wise.. Mistico can go back to mexico and be a superstar there,he just never gelled with the WWE or its fans. Too many botches but at least the character of Sin Cara can be played by Hunico so maybe its salvageable

It would hardly be the first time in history that a television character had a different actor play the part. It does not seem like WWE creative is doing anything with Hunico these days other than jobbing him out to others.

Besides, to my knowledge WWE owns the rights to the Sin Cara name, so why not just have Hunico remain as Sin Cara? It would give someone who is very talented in the ring a viable future.
