Is Edge Really A Face Now?

TimetoShine

Dark Match Winner
To start off , I posted this here because of Edge appearing on both shows for the past few weeks. I am thrilled this guy is back, and his passion and talent are at the top of the WWE class right now.

We all know about his injury and Chris Jericho's taunting of him while he was rehabbing. And of course he won the Royal Rumble, and is challenging Chris Jericho, the uber-hell at Wrestlemania, which normally means he would be the instant face of the feud. But we have to remember his attitude before he went down with injury. His constant berating of the fans, his attacking of all the major faces of the company. That was not going to change anytime soon.

So what else has he done besides feud with Chris Jericho? He says "spear spear spear spear" , but he does not really interact with the fans while he is on the mic. He just kind of stares off into the crowd, ala Randy Orton. He never thanked them for the support while he was injured. I feel he will either stay in this tweener role, or revert back to the great mega heel that we grew to love. If I am missing anything he has done to really "turn face" since he has been back, please correct me.

Opinions?

To be honest I don't know. I have said it before in another thread that this guy is not even acting like a face. He mocks his opponents and people are liking it now. I think the people only cheer him because he came back and obviously his popularity, but not because he is a face. At least not one that comes out straight as a face.

He mocks his opponents and people are liking it now.

That's not really anything new, remember how the Kurt Angle "You Suck" chant started?
Hell Edge mocked Kurt Angle alot, and Kurt wasn't the only one, Edge has mocked alot of people, sometimes it's fun, sometimes it's just odd, and sometimes it can be a little boring.
But actually I'm a little bit in doubt whether we could call him an actual face, I mean he's over with the fans, he's cheered, basicly screams "FACE!!!"
And sure he doesn't exactly do much to interact with the fans, but he's started a new kind of catchphrase that the crowd chants along on, somewhat interacting I would say.

All thou I actually think a somewhat cheered tweener role would be best fitting for edge, because of his heel past, and because being a tweener would give him so many opponent possibilities.

His face turn started off very lukewarm. You still had a portion of the crowd booing for a couple weeks. The crowd had hated him for almost half a decade, and he wasn't around every week to build up his new face turn. The best thing they have done is add the whole ''spear'' chant to his promos. It gets the crowd involved in the promo, the same way Austin's ''what'' chant did.

He is supposed to be the rated r superstar, he isn't going to turn into captain gigles all of the sudden. He still has to keep an edge (no pun intended) or he'll be a watered down version of his character and it wouldn't feel right. He's still going to do some heelish things, it's part of his whole gimmick. He's just going to be doing them to heels rather than faces now. Right now it still feels a little odd, but come Mania it should be in place.

I see you picked up on my "Edge Thread" I had started! But to answer your question about the rated "R" superstar, yes! Edge is now a babyface due to his storyline feud with Chris Jericho which now has the world heavyweight championship involve within their feud. Now I know that your use to the evil heel Edge. But this is the entertainment industry you know. Things and people have to change every once in a while. But in the case of John Cena that is, vince will never change his mind about his "boy scout" John Cena turning heel.

. It gets the crowd involved in the promo, the same way Austin's ''what'' chant did.

Not by a far in the same matter Armbar, the "what" chant gives people a specific point to chant it, and Austin did it through a long time in his promo's and did it in the same way as the fans do it today.
The what chant is definatly crowd made, to me it's the ultimate crowd involvement, because WWE had wrestlers refer to the what numerous times, like the time I believe Undertaker told the crowd to "Say what if you wanna sleep with your sister", and Austin during the promo the day after his little abduction / bridge segment, he again involved the crowd repeating the what and making the crowd go along.

Edge's Spear chant doesn't do the same really, it's not made to be put into a sentence for people to chant in between the lines, if you ask me, it's ment for people to chant along like the fans they are like when someone starts a chant like "Y2J. Y2J" etc.

I have been thinking the same exact thing. The reason is because, before he got injured, he trashed the hell out of the "WWE Universe" and despised them. I'm pretty sure he just stares off into the crowd and doesn't interact with the fans because it wouldn't make sense if he despised them at 1 moment and loved them the next. You get what I'm saying?

I'm really surprised nobody brought up HHH. Edge's return is a lot similar. Both he and Trips had major injuries, and both have come back as babyfaces despite the fact they were major heels when they were injured. The difference is, I believe, Edge will revert to being a heel again soon. Don't expect Jericho and Edge to pull an Austin/Hart at Wrestlemania, but the fact is Edge was a great heel. The Edge/Christian stuff was kind of facish (is that a word? does it make sense? IDK), but in reality they were obnoxious...albeit funny...heels.

Hell, look at HHH. He's still a face now, and I don't think anybody would say that his face act is better than his heel act.
