Is Cena still a good guy?

I mean, he's still a face, obviously. He gets the loudest pops and people love him. But after his actions last night (tossing the flowers, mercilessly making fun of Vickie, and eventually getting drilled by Punk who was just giving him a taste of his own medicine), is Cena still a 'good guy'?

For some reason I feel that the Cena of old wouldn't have gotten so pissed if he had gotten slapped by Vickie. He probably would have shrugged it off, but man he looked ready to AA her.

Could this be WWE's attempt at making him "edgy", or less goody-goody?

Note - I thought the whole segment last night was hilarious, including the dumb fat jokes. I also love Cena; he's my third favorite wrestler.

If he feuds with Punk then yes, a turn/attitude change isnt coming and WWE will still make sure he is SuperCena.

I don't think we're going to see a more edgy Cena. I mean the guy has given an AA to Lita before, so if he did it, it wouldn't be the first time he did it to a woman. As far as Cena being pissed goes, I think it's a normal reaction. If someone slapped you in the face(whether it be a man or woman) I'm sure you would get pretty upset. You might not strike the person, but you probably would think about it.

I didn't say anything about a turn. I didn't say anything about Punk. I didn't say anything about his in-ring style. THAT IS NOT WHAT I AM ASKING.

I think Cena is starting to mature slightly as a character. The getting angry at Vickie thing isn't the only example, either.

1. He started to openly discuss people not liking him (he even hugged the "We Hate Cena" shit wearing fan in the front row)
2. The post-match assault on Barrett on Sunday was the first time I recall him doing something that aggressive.
3. The punchlines in his jokes seem to be slightly more edgy (no more "JBL is Poopy" crap).

I think yes, Cena has changed slightly. However, it's more of an EVOLUTION, instead of a drastic shift.

And yes, the segment was funny. And Docs sig is again magnificent.

This is what I was responding to. Any talk of an attitude change will inevitably bring IWC talk of a turn, which is not needed. But I would welcome a grittier attitude from Cena. I think he has done it in the past and has produced his best work. I've always enjoyed Cena more when he is outnumbered and outthought and has his back against the wall.

Having heard about the Ziggler match, I hope Cena ends up in that situation more often. With time, it sounds like he and Dolph (& Vicky) put on a terrific story.

Oh sweet mercy this.

I like how Cena is progressing in his character, we know we want a Cena heel turn but we won't get it for awhile, even though it is being discussed by management apparently, it will happen sooner or later. But i found his segment with Dolph and Vickie hilarious even for silly fat jokes, his match was good with a shift in his in ring work. He hugged the "We Hate Cena" guy even though he was the only visible hater. John Cena continues to evolve and thats a good thing.

I definately think Cena has taken on a more edgy character lately. His actions against Nexus, though warranted, were plain brutal: he destroyed Gabriel with the help of a car, his attack on Otunga was pretty violent, and he showed Barrett no mercy in their chairs match. On top of that he said a swears during his goodbye promo (OMGZ END OF PGZ ERAIFJHE!) and he seems to be showing more aggression lately.

I'm guessing this is an attempt to make Cena more likable amongst those who reject his 'goody-two-shoes' attitude. Will it work? Probably not. Is it entertaining to watch? I think so. Cena is awesome.

Oh, and the stuff with Guerrero was pretty funny, but uncalled for in my opinion.

I think we've been watching a more "edgy" John Cena for some time now. During the last couple of months, he's become more and more violent. He wasn't just "doing the right thing" while going after Nexus. He was out for revenge. Revenge isn't a "Superman" style way of going about things. He's nowhere near a tweener, or anything like that, but he's definitely more aggressive in how he deals with those opposing him.

It's good they give him this little edge. I mean he can play with this and then end up playing the SuperCena character so everyone is happy.

Evolve, mature etc. ? I know some of you started watching wrestling more recently but if anything this is a return to what Cena was before the marine went to his head.
