Its starting the melting process earlier than it should, by being dropped in 60 degree water, obviously?

Impossible. My water was ice cold.

Maybe it wasn't completely frozen? You know, how sometimes there'll be that one cube that doesn't seem to want to get all the way, and there's the one or two pockets of water?

This seems possible. My ice seemed so explode from the inside. I will keep you updated with my later test results.
