It was this essay to say what technology would bring us or something, it also said we could write a short story, so that I did. Unfortunately I never heard back from them, so I figured I mies well post my story to the public. I thought it was good at the time, but bear with me...it's kinda cheesy, but I figured I'd try it because 25 top winners got a 500$ laptop, and one person got that and a 10,000 dollar savings bond, and because my teachers tested my reading level, and said it was off the charts (highest being the reading ability of a 12th grader.) and my English teacher said I was her writer of the year, so I figured hell, I could get a free laptop. Anyways, here it is, don't hate.
Some people wonder what could have been, if things could have turned out differently. Maybe in another life, there could have been happy places. There could have been heart taking families. Astonishing devices. We could have had Cellular Phones, showing videos of the person your talking too. Television sets being in command by your own thoughts. Tubes that would take you from one location to another in only a short period of time. We could have discovered new life on distant planets, created cures for life taking diseases. Cars, that could hover their distance, without any form of power operating it… just simply being controlled by the human mind.
Our universe could have had all of these wonderful things, except that wouldn't be the human race. Our people are built on greed, power, and fame. Our leaders wanted it all, they wanted the world to be there own. When people are determined to do something, they do it, even if it ends up destroying humanity as we know it, or knew it. Now people wonder if they’ll ever be able to leave their small civilization, into the wasteland they call Earth. Buildings are destroyed, wildlife extinct, our world is nothing but chaos. In 2017, our leaders decided they should invent a new apparatus, something that would change the face of technology.
One mistake, when a military professor working on the experiment, leaked information too one of his brilliant students he lectures at the Western Washington University. That student helped, and studied the experiment, he studied how it worked, how it can be modified. The boy believed he could use it to his advantage. What he didn't know, that very project they we’re working on had a few errors. When he finally decided to use it, the world entered complete utter turmoil. It caused the power in America to shut down completely. Hospitals were useless, patients died left and right. Planes lingering in the sky dipped into the streets of cities. Nuclear missiles, set to emerge by electronic command were blown into the sky without warning. Society, as we knew it was demolished.
Presently in 2025, people are struggling to keep themselves alive, as well as their families. Red Cross foundations attempted to open camps for those who were without hope, but there were too many. Money was worthless, trading goods such as clothing, or other basic materials was necessary. People were scavenging the remains of food left from pre-world times. The United States Military had a plan, encase an apocalypses like this was to ignite. NASA had been building space centers in the galaxy.
They would transport who they could into homes, they started a new civilization.
Soon, people started calling this “The New World”. The moon was used as a central point for their new home, it was called “Lunar Point”. Space attire was not needed, as domes where built over the entire station for safety. Large quantities of supplies we’re brought, but didn’t last forever. Food was grown in special garden facilities, facing in the direction of the sun. Next, money was brought back into perfection. They printed many sources for paper, and gave the dollar bill a new look. A moon in the center, with stars facing adjacent in to two corners.
Vitality was returned to it’s normal stance, though many lost, population begin reproduce. Officials found it expedient to return to earth, and revive mankind in their former home. They discovered this was futile, and came to the decision of destroying their previous planet. This caused fury by many older citizens, and uproars started to arise. The government had no choice, and the sublunary world was left in existence. Although, this was a big mistake on the government’s part.
Soon, alternative life had found it’s way to the vacant planet. With their technology, they established a new community. This form of life had attained our planet. This didn’t past the eyes of the National Guard, as they soon commissioned an attack on the innocent dwellers. Several failed attempts resulted in the destruction of the planet. Survivors retaliated in an attack of their own, destroying two space stations, and a quarter of the population. This resulted in conflict between the New World and Extraterrestrials.
With struggle, the New World overcame the threat, and distinguished that they needed more experienced solders and materials. They hired combat trainers, and scientist to achieve these goals. Soldiers we’re trained to overcome any situation at hand. Scientists built laser artillery to defeat any invaders that would initiate harm.
At one point, a large group of the New World frowned upon ways the community was being run, they called themselves the “New World Outcasts”. They planned attacks on the New World. With the improved technology, the New world easily apprehended the Outcasts, and placed them in confinement.
Technology had finally emerged on top of the New World, many things had been discovered. Cellular Phones, showing videos of the person your talking too. Television sets, being controlled by your own thoughts. Tubes that can take you from one location to another in only a short period of time. Cures created for life taking diseases. Space shuttles, running without an form of power operating it…simply being controlled by the human mind.
But how long would life last this way? When will greed…fame…and power come into hand, resetting science and ways of living? Where will mankind go, if in another fifteen years an apocalypse was to emerge? Technology will only tell.
