I want the Filthy Animal Rey Rey

Trill Co$by

Believes in The Shield!
That's right the heel Mysterio... I think it's time that he lost the mask, and became the heel. His body is approaching the end of its career and there's only a certain amount of time left. Before he goes, I want to see Rey take off the mask and rebuild the Filthy Animals. Add Chavo to the group and give them a solid storyline.

People are saying that Rey is the top face on Smackdown, but I don't think that's true. And to be honest, I'm tired of Underdog Mysterio. Where is the heel? I know he can produce the numbers as a heel, but they just won't let him.

Anyone else agree?

Why exactly would we want to see that? Rey Mysterio is insanely over, and would make just as little sense to turn into a heel as it would be to turn John Cena heel. Both of them sell merchandises like madmen and both of them have a huge fan base from the primary viewers.

While I don't really care for Rey Mysterio, I do not see the sense in turning him heel. Rey Mysterio is still able to go and still able to pull great reactions like few others in WWE right now. So to throw that away for the sake of turning the guy heel would just be too damn stupid.

No I don't agree.

I agree, with Ferbian. Turning Rey heel would do nothing for him and besides, he's an underdog, that doesn't really help the heel image.

1. The Filthy Animals were primarily a face stable in WCW.
2. Rey looks fucking ridiculous without his mask.
3. Not everyone needs to be turned heel to get a boost of life back.
4. Underdog or not getting old, he's still one of the biggest money makers and veteran talents WWE has. They're not going to kill that off with a mask removal.

Not going to happen. Nor do I want it to. I want more masked/facepainted wrestlers, not fewer. I was sad that they didn't let Dos Caras keep his mask. Fortunately he has made it work as Del Rio. And finally Goldust is back on Raw.

Part of the reason I liked Jeff Hardy so much during his big run was the facepaint. It just adds a lot to the mystique and makes them seem larger than life. It's why everyone still gripes about Kane losing the mask. Anyway, Rey is a huge face and sells thousands of masks. So just no.

I think all of the responses have pretty much summed it up, Rey sells alot (and I mean alot) of masks, tops etc and kids fucking adore him, why the hell would you turn Rey heel and make him lose his mask?

This is a bad idea, I don't want it to happen and I'm positive it won't. Do you think Vnce would really get rid of his mask just because some people are bored of him, he makes Vince alot of money and Vince wouldn't do anything if he thought he would lose money from it.

No, Rey Mysterio would not even look credible even with a stable. You said Chavo in your post. Nobody cares what he does and teaming him with Rey to me is like demoting Rey after all the times he lost to Hornswoggle. Rey sells too much merchandise and if he does retire soon then it would be best to see him leave as a face than as a heel. He will probably take off his mask when he retires anyways. Plus there is already like 20 heels on Smackdown.

Rey could never really be a heel in WWE. His high flying "wow!" / always the underdog style of wrestling doesn't really suit a heel turn. WCW had many high fliers, so they could have got away with it, but WWE doesn't have many like Rey.

Besides, I don't know how many more years Rey can go on doing what he's doing and I'd like to see him remain a face for the remainder of his career.

Nope. Stupid idea. When Rey was a heel in WCW where was he at? Low in the card, mid-card at best. Because Bischoff didn't give a shit about the cruiserweights, that's why so many of them left for the WWE (Jericho, Malenko, Guerrero come to mind). Look where they got, two of my examples became world champion. Mysterio went to WWE after WCW closed, but in my opinion if he left before WCW closed down, he would of probably been champion without controversary over his wins e.g. Eddie dying or because they didn't want him to take time off.

Yes lets waste the most popular wrestler's (with kids) last few years by turning him Heel and completly killing his momentum rather then making him go out over making him and the kids happy. Turning rey Heel would be a huge waste of time. Yes the people that ain't happy with the way they're (Cena Punk ect...) would love it if rey went Heel but that's it. At the moment it's the PG era and while in this ERA there is no chance in hell Rey will turn Heel.

Yes because Hogan turning heel didn't boost ratings... Because stone cold turning heel didn't boost ratings...

Right now, Rey is getting stale whether you want to realize it or not. WWE sees it, but they don't know what to do to change things up. Like seriously, people think that it's a big deal to turn Rey heel, well stop and think about how easy it is for WWE to manipulate kids? Who gives a fuck if they hate Mysterio? Turn Ziggler face then, or maybe put focus on MVP or some other face.

Mysterio turning would rejuvenate his character, whether people want to admit it or not. Hell he doesn't even have to take the mask off to turn heel, this was just an option.

Or hell, how about to help get Kaval over, put him in a rivalry with a heel Mysterio. It sure as hell beats him having to lose on Smackdown, though he has a guaranteed title shot (Kaval). Hell, that could be the selling point right there. Mysterio could realize his end is coming and want that title shot for himself.

Not to mention, Edge just came back to Smackdown AS A FACE. Now if I was a betting man (and sometimes I am) I would say that his merchandise will sale... just like Mysterio's if not more.

Mysterio's one face, and as the Raw GM said (which is by far the best thing mentioned ever) nobody in the WWE is above the WWE... which also would imply that nobody is above a turn. With ease, WWE could find someone to replace Mysterio's popularity.

I got it, lets turn everyone heel. That seems to be everyone’s fix to "rejuvenate" a character. So if we make everyone a heel, then everyone will be awesome, and the world will be perfect:thumbsup:

That's why. The mask on the left sells for an affordable $8.00 (which is why most kids at ringside have tons of them) and the one on the right is $50.00. Besides Cena's gear, these items are the biggest sellers on WWEShop.com. But let's just forget about that and turn him heel to kill the sales, right?

Without sounding like a supporter of the 'WWE Shareholder' mentality, this all comes down to what you as a fan want to see of Rey Mysterio, forget about WWE making or losing money for a minute and concentrate on whether you would find the 'Filthy Animal' Rey entertaining, or not?

For me, I was beginning to get a tad bored of Rey as a constant main eventer, at least that was until he began working with an up and comer (by WWE standards) in Alberto del Rio. Now that Rey is out of the main event scene, I'm warming to him again as it's refreshing to see what he can do outside of the World Title.

If Rey is boring to fans, what is the solution? Some might say take the mask off him but that isn't necessarily what should happen, instead put him with different workers like Alberto (as they are currently doing) and eventually Kaval or have him go after the IC Title again or even form a tag team and allow him to help rebuild the tag team division. All these ideas would be more credible than simply taking the easy way out and removing the mask. Me, I have fond memories of Rey's filthy animal days but I would like to see them trying the aforementioned ideas before resorting to removing the mask or even a heel turn...

It's not going to happen so I don't see why we should even bother discussing if it will happen. All of the little kids look up to Rey Mysterio, he's basically their idol. He brings kids to shows, what would be the point of making him a heel? He would lose a big chunk of his fanbase (kids) and it wouldn't accomplish anything. He's pulling the PG era for Smackdown, there is no way he will be a heel as long as WWE wants kids to come to shows.

Turning Rey Mysterio heel is like turning John Cena heel. It literally makes no financial sense and would pretty much kill of the Rey Mysterio character.

The thing that defines Rey Mysterio right now is his Ultimate Underdog gimmick. Without that, he would not be able to take on people like The Big Show or The Undertaker. In fact, he would likely be squashed like any other cruiserweight that dared step in their paths. However, because Rey is a face and works his gimmick well, it makes a little bit of sense to see in those matches. It could be “the size of his spirit” or “the courage in his heart” that gets him there but like it or not, he is there.

Now, turning him heel would not fit this gimmick. You simply cannot play off of the Ultimate Underdog gimmick if you are being a bad guy because no one will want to cheer for you. Add that to the fact that Rey Mysterio doesn’t have the build or look of a heel and you have a formula for failure if the WWE did try it.

As D-Man said, Rey Mysterio is a cash-cow for the WWE. He continually sells merchandise and the kids love his gimmick. Changing it would risk losing that money and at the end of the day, the WWE is a business just like any other. Going against what is best for business is ludicrous.

Vince is all about the money, simple as.

He doesnt care who is a face, who is a heel or who is the champ as long as he is lining his pockets.

Mysterio is WAYYYY too over with the younger WWE fans for Vince to even entertain the idea of taking his mask off. Doing something like this may be good for storyline purposes, but it will severly hit merchandise sales and with WWE not being as popular as it was in the Attitude era, this is a very important stream of income for Vince.

I cant see anything happening other than McMahon milking the Rey Mysterio cash cow for everything he can get, any Rey staying as the underdog face until his retirement

First things first, turning Rey Mysterio heel would be the absolute worst thing for SmackDown right now. They are trying to correct the situation they have of being overloaded with heel talent by bringing in some face characters (ala the Punk/Edge trade we've recently witnessed and having Cody/Drew team up), so anything that prevents gaining more faces would be quite stupid and pointless. You also have to consider the landscape of SD right now concerning storyline... the Taker/Kane angle is taking up the main frame, with things like the Ziggler Love Triangle, Edge's quest to destroy stupidity and SD vs. RAW is taking up a lot of programming... having Rey turn now would be overkill. If you do go down that road, try it when the schedule is freed up. However, with the Road to WrestleMania shortly coming up and after all these feuds will be done, turning someone with the popularity of Rey would do quite bad for advertising the events and getting as many people to watch as possible.

Without going into details of Rey being a cash cow for the WWE and how his character will be killed (which has taken a long time to develop), there is sufficient evidence as for why Mysterio can't turn heel. Don't even get me started on a heel Mysterio moveset or the fact that Rey brings a lot of Spanish audiences into the fray. It's honestly a terrible idea... John Cena turning heel is more doable than turning Rey Mysterio.

Maybe if they ever bring up the masked guys from FCW, and turn them into somewhat star status like Rey has within the next 2-3 years and Rey is still around. We might be able to see a heel turn for Rey but I doubt he'd be able to pull it off. He's getting really old and by that time he'll be too old for the high flying moves were use to seeing him do. But if he's still in good shape those masked guys from FCW will be selling the masks and won't have to worry about Rey Mysterio Mask's that's why we can possibly see Rey turn heel in the future but probably not now.

Mysterio as a heel?? Are u kidding. Rey has very low mic skills. Believe me. I feel Swagger better than him. All he can talk is "I won't quit like the others". That's not a heel. He'll have to take lessons from Miz on how to be a good heel. That will take a lot of time and he doesn't have enough time left.

I think one of the biggest things you're forgetting is that in order to be a good heel, you need to be a good talker. HHH, Punk, Jericho, Edge, what made and makes them such great heels is that they can give someone a verbal beatdown on the mic. Rey is between average and putrid depending on the promo. Rey is a fantastic face in that he gets over by his mannerisms and in-ring work, as well as his interactions with the fans. People won't buy it, and it would be a pointless turn.

Yea, why not? I'll jump on the band wagon if not just for the post count: Rey turning heel is just not a good idea. At all. Nope. Sorry. He's a cash cow and a superhero to the kiddies. Note the PG rating. Note the economy slump. WWE needs him as is. Stale? Who cares. Opinion at best. Also, he looks like a toddler w/o his mask. No one is scared of a steroid baby. Tired of him being an underdog? What the F' else would he be surrounded by people literally a foot taller than him? It's his lot in life and career. I'm tired of Show being a giant, but it is what it is. It is part and parcel to his gimmick. As might have been said (I didn't read all the posts) the only was to not have him be an underdog would be to have a Jr. division where his stature wouldn't be an issue. Anyway, yea… no.

Why does everyone keep bringing up the cash cow? Does nobody realize that it's when their profits start coming in that people go heel? Like, I don't know Stone Cold at WM 17? Like Stone Cold during the invasion? Not to mention, usually the major "cash cows" are the ones in the big pictures. Last night, Mysterio was jerking the curtains. And so what if he's selling the masks? There's a lot of shirts back in the warehouse that can be pushed out the window.

Hell, use this as a gate way to bring Evan Bourne over to Smackdown and give him a rivalry against Mysterio. I'm not saying it has to happen now, I'm just saying it would be nice to see if Mysterio can adapt to the heel side. Hell, WWE turned Hurricane into a heel in a matter of 30 seconds when he ripped off the mask and beat down Jerry Lawler... and at the time, his shit was selling and selling hard.

Seriously, people (well smarks) think that just because someone is currently making money that there isn't a potential replacement. This is WWE here people. If they wanted to, they could take a fat, out of shape, loser like Mark Madden and put him over as the next golden child of the WWE and the kids at home would eat it up.

Mysterio's an expendable and can easily be replaced... just like Jeff Hardy was easily replaced when he left for TNA.

I agree with the people saying keep him face.. Look at all those latino kids who adore him and would give him there skin off their faces to wear as a mask if they could.

The best idea right now would be to turn Chavo face and do it the right way by him teaming up with Rey Rey. I think they would make a solid face duo! 6-1-9 / Frog Splash!

Sure, let's rip the mask off Rey.........

not only considering the cultural importance of his mask (which Bischoff had no problem denegrating in WCW), it would be absolutely retarted due to the marketing impact.

However, having Rey do a heel turn would be a risk that I would be willing to take - because I do believe that you could handle such a move and balance the merchandizing.

Personally I would love to see Rey turn and kick Cena right in the cojones about 31 times, then pull down his pants and defecate in John's mouth......

.... a little too strong maybe??
