Husky Harris New Gimmick

TheInfamousOne

The One And Only
Since Husky was punted right back to FCW, the boys down in Florida have been tinkerin' with him. They gave him the VERY short lived Axel Mulligan gimmick, the back to Husky. Now they have come up with the Levi/Bray Wyatt gimmick. I have now seen 2 promos from this and I can tell you. I was intrigued. He seems to do well with this. Not sure about the Levi Cottonwood addition, unless he is like his silent "cohort" for lack of a better term. You guys need to take a sec and check these out. Pretty damn good stuff.

Just watched the Second one and ill tell you now that little crucifix pose at the end already isnt gonna pass, I think wwe learned its lesson with that after the Hassan/Taker bit.

Aside from that, This just looks like a "Darker" Jesse and Festus.

I actually liked it..Even if it is a darker version of Jesse and Festus it might actually get over and work really well. I always felt that something was missing from Jesse and Festus this may just be it..

This new gimmick is amazing! And the only thing even remotely similar to Jesse & Festus is that he's from the south.

Definitely a genius/psychopath, cult leader type vibe, but with a Southern feel to it. A little bit of Waylon Mercy, but updated. If they give him vignettes to lead to a debut, this could be great.

Great great gimmick. Spot on with the promos. This is what WWE agents saw in him all these years. He is money!!!!

The pose is not a big deal at all, its just Jericho's pose facing forward. Has nothing even close to Hassan/Undertaker

Why can't he just be Windham Rotunda? I fail to see much point in trying to disguise the fact that 2nd/3rd generation wrestlers are in fact, 2nd/3rd generation wrestlers. This goes for Michael McGillicutty too. We all know who they are, we know where they came from, why bother giving them some bogus ring name? Husky Harris/Bray Wyatt/Axel Mulligan = Windham Rotunda. We know Michael McGillicutty = Joe Hennig.

Windham Rotunda and Joe Hennig would get far more fan support than Bray Wyatt and Michael McGillicutty would.

I hate the fact that they are giving them lame ass names when their ACTUAL names have more meaning to wrestling fans. Hell, even Goldust was just a play on Dustin Rhodes, AFTER he had wrestled in WCW as "The Natural" Dustin Rhodes. Nothing wrong with using dad's name. Maybe it works (Cody Rhodes) maybe it doesn't (DiBiase). But don't insult us with ridiculous fake names when we know damn well who they are.

You clearly haven't seen the promo's. It's a COMPLETELY different character. He gets so into the character that he actually hints that his daddy died on a shrimp boat that he set on fire.

And get over yourself. Nobody is insulting our intelligence. They all have had who their fathers are acknowledged. I'm sure Husky is going to have a hard time getting his new character over because of all the smart marks chanting Husky when he debuts it. And ISNT going to want who his father is mentioned.

Bray Wyatt seems to have a Charles Manson feel to me, I love his two promos I really like the crucifix pose he does at the end and the little bit of singing he does as well as his manic delivery of promos. Windham has always been great at doing promos from what I've seen in FCW. The Eli Cottonwood addition seems to just give him more authority as like a religious cult leader style character in my opinion, considering he's quite strong and maybe a bit Rotund (pun intended) as it, I can't see him really needing a bodyguard but, a lacky does make sense. His match was pretty good on the same week as the second promo.

That second clip reminded me of Deniro's character in the remake of Cape Fear. I thought it was much better than his in ring clip but they were both solid.

I'm not sure how you can call this gimmick insulting to anyone's intelligence. It's a scripted product on tv. He can pretend to be this guy, or he can pretend to be husky harris, or he can go by his real name and pretend to be something else. Is there really much of a difference?

There are a lot of 2nd generation stars on the main roster or in the pipe line. It's not unique anymore, it doesn't stand out. This back story and this character could be a lot more interesting than IRS Jr.

*edit*
Here's the quote from cape fear that the second promo reminded me of.

"I ain't no white trash piece of s***. I'm better than you all! I can out-learn you. I can out-read you. I can out-think you. And I can out-philosophize you. And I'm gonna outlast you. You think a couple whacks to my guts is gonna get me down? It's gonna take a hell of a lot more than that, Counselor, to prove you're better than me!"

WWE played the 2nd/3rd gen character to death they are giving them new gimmicks to keep from having to go down that same path again they want them to have their own paths and not the paths of their fathers and grandfathers. Just like The Rock they didnt mention his family to much once he became The Rock. Its not hurting anything i actually like the promo hope it makes the next game..

I liked it more and more the longer he talked. Some of what he says really sounded cool. I don't know. There is a chance that this would fall flat or if he can be creative it might really work.

Its too tough to call.

I really love this gimmick! First Waylon Mercy, and now Husky Harris, and both did this "Cape Fear" type gimmick really well! I hope to see Husky on the main roster again soon!

I don't know why some people are hating on it. I thought it was great. If they keep his character exactly like he appeared i would love to see him on the main roster as soon as possible. Something about that character was different and entertaining. He's gonna go places no doubt.

Credit to FCW/WWE for giving a few of the guys down there a bit of a gimmick. For too long, everybody down there was a firstname/lastname, short tights and boots, same style generic heel or face. "The cookie Cutter". It was difficult for any of them to make much of a difference when they were just one of the pack. Now Kenneth Cameron and Connor O Brian are in 'Ascension' which is basically The Brood #2, Harris has his new Cape Fear style gimmick and Damien Sandow has his nihilistic thing going on.

At least WWE are trying with these guys to give them an opportunity to see if they can make something of it.

As far as Husky's gimmick goes specifically, it can work. Eli Cottonwood is the right man to match him with, a type of Lennie Small, big dumb character who he can manipulate. Yes it has been done before, but done right, Im sure it can get over.

Even though I like the gimmick I think it's a bit over the top.

The main problem I have with it is that it seems forced. This gimmick hopping doesn't do Husky any good. However Brodus Clay got over as the Funkasaurus so I guess Husky could get over with it too.

I thought this thread was going to be a total waste when I clicked on it, but I love this gimmick. It probably won't see the light of cable television though -- at least not in its current incarnation. They'll cut the subtle religious references and the crucifix pose. But I think its brilliant as is.

I watched as much Waylon Mercy footage as I could find yesterday. I love Cape Fear and Bobby D is awesome in it. Not only where the promos on point, but the little in ring nuances were excellent. The dancing, the kiss on the head...these are crazy little things that will make this gimmick look more.."insane" I guess. I really really like Husky and have since I saw him on NXT. I think he does well with what he is given. Even the Axel Mulligan thing was cool for the one match. He made it his own which is a key to success. I would honestly try to show him in some capacity on TV as soon as possible. Kid is good.

This is absolutely awesome.

I saw a shoot interview with him a couple months back, and he was just a natural in free-form talking. Made me wonder what a great gimmick could do for him.

I think they're definitely on to something here. It's perhaps a little to risque for the current format on the main roster, but with a little tweaking, it could become REALLY interesting. Could form a mini-stable a la the Straight Edge Society, work well in the mid-card.

Excited to see if this makes television.

Judging from those clips this is a great character to for him & I think it could work very well in WWE as long as they don't water it down to much!

Why can't he just be Windham Rotunda? I fail to see much point in trying to disguise the fact that 2nd/3rd generation wrestlers are in fact, 2nd/3rd generation wrestlers. that way, they don't need to live up to a standard because of their name...Husky Harris has to deal with being Son of IRS, Nephew of HOF'er Barry Whindam, and Grandson of HOF'er Blackjack Mulligan

I for one love this new gimmick. I'll admit its a little taboo with the whole religious fanatic, but that's what makes it interesting. The character is not demonizing religion itself, but religious fanaticism. His whole self-righteous/malicious attitude gives the gimmick depth. Bray Wyatt is obviously an homage to Robert DeNiro's character, Max Cody, from the movie Cape Fear. If you've never seen the movie look up the character on Youtube because he is an awesome movie heel. Also I like that they are shying away from Harris being another third generation superstar because that has been done to death. This Bray Wyatt act is something new and interesting, and I would like to see where it goes if brought up to the main roster.

The second promo was fantastic. Wrestling needs more gimmicks now a days. I don't care who has father was or what he did. It doesn't always work and it just gets boring. Randy Orton never mentions his father or his grandfather. The Rock didn't mention his family. The only one I can think of that mentions her family time and time again is Natalya and it gets irritating. I think this guy can succeed with this gimmick but I'm not sure how dark they could get with it.

Have to say them promos have me interested. I want to see more. He comes across as a bad ass who would enjoy giving a good old fashion beating. However if he likes to beat people up I dont know how the fans will react because the natural reaction is to cheer people who like to fight and arent cowards. On the other hand his character may be too extreme for the wwe to allow him to be face.

The 2nd promo was done well and he seemed to be real comfortable with his character.

I hope this character comes up to the main roster because it seems quite unique.

I personally dont see much advantage in using his real name. Just because his father was a tag champ in the early 90's doesnt make him interesting, the new character does.

Ok, yes some wrestlers have got over using the 2nd 3rd generation gimmick (Orton). Then again others havent (Ted DiBiase Jr).
My point is if you can come up with a better gimmick then just being a child of former wrestler, then go for it.

So yes I want to see him debut this character soon as I have faith that he would get over and most importantly I would enjoy it.

Ice Tigers are GO!

just checked it out wow those 2 promos were awesome it looked like a squash match but it does seem husky has improved or atleast gotten faster with his movement this gimmick seems to have alot of potential to me it should be intersting to see where they go with it in the future only thing i didnt like was eli cottonwood being there seemed kinda pointless but then again hes pretty pointless on the roster so why not make him a body guard? hope to see husky called up using this gimmick its something different

I like what we've seen so far, I thought he was the best worker in Nexus outside of Bryan and had a unique quality about him, this may be the gimmick that finally harnesses that into a character that works.
