Horrible Opening Promo

I really enjoyed the promo. No, it was not excellent or great or anything like that, but it was entertaining and very interesting. That is just me. R-Truth stepped it up last night and was a great talker. In other words, his mic skills have improved greatly. Morrison stepped it up as well. Of course Morrison was talking about some dumb things but come on, the guy actually had some talking skills showing. It reminded me of his Dirt Sheet days. The promo led to a good match and an awesome heel turn for R-Truth. No complaints here.

I don't know what promo you were watching last night mate but it certainly wasn't the same one. How anyone can say that it was good or even ok is beyond me. The promo is up there with one of the worst of all time, totally cringe material and a total embarrassment and I just can't believe that the WWE made a mistake like that. Both guys clearly need a lot of work on their mic skills, but it could be as simple as they just don't have it. Some guys can do it and some can't. I suspect in this case neither of them have it and never will.

I love John Morrison's in-ring ability, he is a great athlete and he still has time to work on his mic skills, but as for truth, he has been about for ages and I don't think he is the kind of guy that will ever get much better than his current level, which is mediocre in every way! JoMo is the kind of guy that needs to work with other good mic workers and feed off them, because he will never make it to solid main event status if he doesnt get better at that.

Wow.... I feel bad for the people watching it in U.K. I can not believe the U.K. had to sit through that entire thing. I can't believe i had to watch that entire thing. R-Truth is horrible on the mic, and John Morrison is only better by a tad bit.

I see now what some of you have been saying about their mic skills.

and... Yes it was that bad that it was worth mentioning.

Are you serious? JoMo has horrible mic skills and is the one who ultimately screwed up the whole opening promo. Truth played the beginning out well: acting all excited and corny over his #1 Contendership, making jokes to try and lighten JoMo's accusations, and foreshadowing a heel turn by at first questioning whether or not the crowd wanted to see the match. Truth isn't a Rock, a Miz, a HBK, a Jericho, a Booker T, or a Pope Dinero on the mic, but he has good mic skils, at least good enough to hold his own. It was JoMo's boring, emotionless ass who screwed up the promo. Everytime the crowd popped during that opening segment, it was because of something Truth did. When Truth said he's in the best shape of his life and did his little dance? Crowd popped. When Truth asked if they really wanted to see the match that badly? Crowd popped. If it wasn't for the watter bottle video, he wouldve got crickets

Don't play yourself: JoMo is NOT better than R Truth on the mic, and that's a fact.

I just watched the opening promo during the RAW rebroadcast here in Canada, and I really don't know what the hell everyone is complaining about. Are these two guys superb on the mic, by no means, no. It certainly was not Rock versus Jericho or anything like that. But I didn't mind the segment one bit. I liked JoMo's laid back style. I liked Truth starting off as a face and undergoing a reluctant but necessary and complete heel turn. The match itself was decent, and while the beat down afterwards went on a little too long and had the whole unnecessary smoking thing, it still completed the heel turn which few people saw coming. And it flows smoothly into a likely predictable but still logical PPV.

People complain on here all the time about seeing the same guys dominate the action all the time. Yet when they put the spotlight on someone new, people still complain. I can easily see a feud between Morrison and Truth continuing on SD after the draft and after the PPV. And I don't think it will be too bad.

Some people are never satisfied, it's as simple as that.

If you ask me JoMO BURIED the promo. Now don't get me wrong, Truth is not great with promos by any means...but atleast he seemd into it and trying....Morrison seemed like he could have been sitting on a beach drinking some kind of fruity drink and said the stuff the EXACT same way....he had no inflection in his voice...he had..well...nothing! Truly the only thing Morrison has going for him is being somewhat of a spot monkey...

The opening segment to last night's show felt pretty awkward. I was fine with Truth in the ring by himself at the beginning, but once Morrison stepped into the picture, things went downhill fast. The segment was just horrible, and the little pot shots from Morrison didn't do it for me. The crowd was pretty dead, and it was very hard to get into the exchange between these two.

Although, when it comes to Truth's heel turn, I do think it was done very well. He did look like a bitter and angry sore loser, as he beat down Morrison after the match. Seeing Truth smoke a cigarette was kind of surprising, because we all know WWE is a PG environment. Truth's smoking wasn't something spectacular, but he was so smug as he smoked the cigarette, and he did look a real dick as he blew the smoke in Morrison's face.

But yeah, I couldn't get into the opening promo between Morrison and Truth. It was awkward, and things just got worse as time went on.

It was pretty brutal, yeah.
I liked the heel turn. It made sense why R-Truth might snap. Morrison took his spot away and made him look a buffoon. Check. That much of it was well done and they had everybody fooled for a week that Truth would actually get in the main event. Had me fooled. (At least I hope they did. I wouldn't be surprised if Truth somehow gets back into the main event and it becomes a 4-way.)
Bu the preceding promo was just awful. Suddenly I wished Truth would go back to speaking only city names and two words.
And then Morrison. What was that deal with the water? And suddenly it's about smoking? What the-? And that worked and goaded Truth into a match? Weird. Just very weird.

... wtf are you guys on about, R-Truth absolutely killed it, he was speaking clearly, getting the crowd into it and clearly the crowd was digging it, what a great heel turn, IMO attitude era like

The more and more i go back and look at the footage. The fans over there were horrible and they sucked. The promo wasnt that bad. I think if they had been in the U.S they probably wouldve gotten more pops. The crowd wasnt good at all for nearly the entire night. Except for Rtruths heel turn and then they were eating it up. But if you wanna blame anybody , blame Morrison. He had no feeling or emotion when saying his lines. Rtruth was enthusiastic and seemed very happy on the mic. He even got a few "what" chants. When he was out there by himself saying" i been through my trials, tribulations etc. If anything Morrison was the one that stunk on the promo. Truth was alright. Hes alot better on the mic as a heel, because what hes saying isnt forced .He can just be himself.

I think all of the backlash is ridiculously exaggerated. It wasn't stellar material by any means. It was two mid-carders that everyone was already familiar with, so what did everyone expect? An Academy Award performance? You already knew John Morrison wasn't that good on the mic. You already knew R-Truth wasn't that good on the mic. But, calling either one of them the worst mic worker or promo cutter in history? That's just far-fetched. R-Truth has rough enunciation, but his energy and emotions support him. He was actually interesting in the segment, the match and afterward. I was convinced with the way he portrayed his role. John Morrison sounded uncomfortable on the mic, and that kind of killed the momentum. The jokes about the water and cigarettes worked as mere plot devices for R-Truth's heel turn. That's it. Calm down and move on. I for one am glad they did something fresh with R-Truth's character. Remember, R-Truth isn't in the WWE Championship match. If even that much won't appease you, I don't know what will.

Haha, I was wondering if someone would do a thread about the opening promo. Its always refreshing to know someone has a similar opinion as you do.

But anyways, the opening promo.

Where the hell do we start...
Its pretty obvious that it was very very bad. That much is obvious. But I sometimes wonder just how much of it is the superstars' faults if the writers write every word for them, then those two are just doing their jobs reciting the script right? I don't know just how much of a WWE promo is non-scripted (little if anything I imagine) but if no matter who wrote it...WHAT THE HELL. What horrible dialogue, horrible content, and just poor delivery from both men. R-Truth is hard to understand at times and Morrison looks SO nervous up there. He shows zero emotion, character, whatever. At least R-Truth was energetic and HAD something to say. The whole point of the argument was that R-truth took one mouthful of water....GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY, SO WHAT? If that's what these new storylines are going to be, than I better brace myself for the worst. They kept talking over each other at times and it seemed like they couldn't find their place. Morrison was far worse than Truth and everything Morrison did was just awkward and bland. Why doesn't he show us some fire, some character, anything! The JoMo haters have some terrific firepower to use now.

The whole promo part was just awkward and bad...I was embarrassed for them since this is the first time either one has ever opened up Raw with a promo by themselves. I wish for them to improve, I do but c'mon.

I definitely enjoyed the heel turn though, and feel it is overdue for Truth. Good for him. Im glad he has something to work with now. But ONCE again WWE fails to produce a good babyface. Why do all babyfaces suck? Minus Christian. Talk for another thread I saw earlier but still......

I'm just now watching RAW on DVR, and after that promo I just had to come here and see what people were saying about it. I found it to be completely awkward and horrible. Poor writing, poor execution. Truth has a charismatic way of speaking, but the wit just isn't there. And Morrison, even Pinocchio thinks he's too wooden. And in the PG era, to point out that a Superstar smokes? That HAD to be an ad lib by Morrison (poor choice), that turned into an awkward non-sequitur. Even if it is portrayed in a negative light, I don't think outing a Superstar as a smoker on air is a good idea, kids still see a heel as a larger than life, rich and famous athlete/celebrity and could be influenced by this. Not cool. Worst promo in a long time.

I thought it was strung out for too long at times, but overall, the final outcome created one of the most interesting heel turns ive seen in a while :o

You guys are being to hard on R truth. Anyone would struggle in a long promo with morrison who is absolutely horrible on the mic. He tries to act cool but seems very tense and scared on the mic and just talks like hes reading a script in his bedroom. Truth actually has charisma on the mic and pretty good delivery and is pretty amusing, his emotions are also very convincing and his acting during his heel turn was great. I didnt see anything horrible a bout his performance all, but morrison is plain embaressing and should never be given a mic again. It was like they dragged someone from the crowd and just gave him a mic and told him to say anything on the spot.

I agree. Morrison is kind of bad on the mic as of now, Truth is not. Morrison is a great performer and has tons of charisma, but he needs more work on his mic skills (maybe this is WWE's fault rather than Morrison himself as they might be giving him crappy material?). Truth pulled of a great heel turn on Raw. He worked it brilliantly and I'm looking forward to next week's Raw to see which direction his character is heading towards.

It's not WWE fault. Think about what Santino does, if he wasn't such a great performer the character would suck. However, he puts everything he has into it and has made it work. It's Morrison's job to take what they give him and mold it into something entertaining. He's not practicing enough. Maybe instead of doing flips he should practice with other great talkers until he gets good, request to get mic time on house shows to practice in front of a live audience, etc.

If you're not good on the mic, it's your own fault. Saying Morrison's mic skills sucked because of the script is like saying a pitcher gave up a home run because the catcher suggested the wrong pitch.

As much as I love watching JoMo, this promo's writing was horrible. It may just be that they gave Morrison dumb reasons to talk smack about Truth. Lady Luck was the best one, but the other two just were unneeded. The writers gave stupid things to go on, like that bottle of water and smoking crap. I found it "haha" funny but nothing hilarious when Morrison brought it up. The positive way to look at this is that it was probably focused on either an R-Truth heel turn or to bump Morrison to the main event or both. But it was a bad promo, good match, good heel turn. 2.5/5 stars.

P.S.

Is it just me, or did that UK crowd seem gloomy throughout the night? When Morrison entered, he didn't get near the pops he usually does, Miz got no reaction at all, hell, even Cena had some trouble getting the crowd to react. It was as if the UK didn't know which superstars were heels and which ones were faces.
