Has Punk done it?

Punk certainly hasn't become bigger than the belt but I will say as a heel CM Punk does not need the belt to be an effective heel as from 09-11 I always felt CM Punk was far and away the best heel the WWE had. When Punk had his SES he had as much heat as Jericho did when he knocked out Shawn Michaels wife, its very rare you can see people garner that much heat on a consistent basis. He's not a bad face but his character screams heel, its just so easy to hate a character like that.

All in all as a heel I wouldn't say that CM Punk needs to be champion to be relevant, he's good enough to be relevant on his own. Just give him a good face to work with and Punk will be fine.

I agree that Punk has been a good heel but when you put it that way I have to ask: who did heel Punk put over? If Punk is a legendary heel where is the PPV buyrates and tv-ratings to back up that claim? What did CM Punk accomplish as a heel?

Many people say JBL was an awful heel but he put Cena over. People say heel Hogan was past his prime and boring but he won the monday night wars for years.....

In short no! Because he has never been a good face in the WWE.

He was great in ROH, he was a good heel for years in the WWE and he had the chance to be a great face last summer but he blew it.

In the end CM Punk didn't have the wrestling mind to be a great face, he didn't have the physique to be a great face, he didn't have the whole package.

Some people are going to come in here and say if Vince just kept him off tv longer, if Vince didn't undermine him bla bla......my answer is that great wrestling minds like Steve Austin, Hulk Hogan, they beat the odds. They get over even when every little detail doesn't fit their agenda. CM Punk isn't that. Unfortunately.

Is this guy serious? What odds did Austin and Hogan have to overcome? They were creations of the WWE, and were pushed as such. They didn't have to overcome any odds.

And how did HE blow his chance at becoming a top face? He doesn't write the storylines. The WWE blew it when they went away from his "rebelling against the status quo" storyline less than a month after his epic promo.

The company has one full time top star right now, and that's John Cena. And he's boring, and has been for like 5 years. And the WWE has no one to blame bu themselves for their predicament.

If they could stick with a storyline for more than 5 minutes, instead of changing gears every time they don't see immediate ratings impact...they'd be in a much better place. Building great characters and storylines takes more than an investment of a couple weeks.

CM Punk isn't even an interesting heel right now, thanks to the WWE. His previous heel runs were awesome, but now they've booked him as the standard whiney heel.
