Has Cody Rhodes Push Failed

When Cody Rhodes was fired it seemed like this was his time and then when he hit the Cross Rhodes on Rollins at Battleground he got the biggest pop of his career and it seemed like the beginning of his push. However he does not seem to have gotten the correct push, he is now in a team where Goldust is more over than him and he has no gained a singles title. With a feud against Goldust likely to occupy him till Wrestlemania and Reigns and Langston looking to have overtaken him as top future stars has the plan to elevate Cody failed as he has no achieved a singles glory. I thought WWE were going to put him in a feud with Del Rio after Battleground and have him get the major title his push deserved but with a major title feud not likely for atleast 5 months I think his push has failed as I feel he will never get a reaction like the one he got at Battleground. Do you agree with me or not

I disagree. This is the most important role he has played since handing out paper bags to the audience. He has been a central figure in The Authority angle and took the titles off of arguably the best stable WWE has had in the past decade.

I do not think he is overshadowed by Goldust. Goldust is just a character that has been loved by WWE fans for the past 20 years. Cody Rhodes is still a rising star and time is on his side.

I really think it's too early to tell. If he feuds with his brother like rumored, the moment of truth will be after that when he begins his next program. That's when he'll have to truly stand on his own 2 feet and see how over he can be in something that doesn't involve his father or brother. I liked him when he feuded with Mysterio for breaking his nose and wore the hood and mask because he was ashamed of his face. That dark character made for good tv I thought. I'm skeptical of him as a face though. I'm afraid he's gonna be too vanilla and not stand out, sort of like Miz. I really hope I'm wrong.

I think they are following the same path as they did with Daniel Bryan to push Cody. Cody is in a tag team with a veteran and is earning far more pops than he did as a singles star. I think this phase with Goldust has made him really relevant.

His feud with Goldust will be truly once in a lifetime and there is huge money in it. If he can hone his mic skills by then, you will have a solid main eventer.

I wouldn't call it failed, but it certainly has cooled off. The push hit it's peak once the Rhodes won the titles, after that they seem to have fallen off the radar a bit. They've had some great matches for sure but no actual feuds which would've gave Cody a chance to shine on the mic. Like there's only so much you can do in the ring without ever saying a word, and that's sadly enough is what Cody has been doing lately. He did get a brief bit of fun at Survivor Series, but unless that leads into a feud with the Real Americans(which would be great) it really doesn't get him anything.

Goldust actually has a advantage over Cody since his look/in ring style makes him standout without ever needing the mic, while Cody is a lot more generic in comparison. That and he has a story people can easily get behind, the old veteran that came back in the best shape of his life performing better then he ever has.

Really the true test will be after Cody/Goldust finishes their WM match. Will they push Cody to the WWE title contender status, or will he just stay in the mid-card?

I don't see how it's failed as of right now. Has the push cooled to some degree? Sure it has, but that's to be expected. Cody Rhodes is part of a tag team, so he's not going to be as heavily pushed as if he was a main eventer. He & Rhodes ended the 5 month run of Rollins & Reigns as tag team champions, they've been paired up in their ongoing feud against The Shield with top babyfaces like CM Punk & Daniel Bryan and the matches they've had over the past few months have been among the best in the company on any card that's been put together whether it's on ppv or television.

As for when things will ultimately pick back up for Cody, I think it'll generally happen during WrestleMania season. Reports indicate that WWE wants to have Goldust turn on Cody Rhodes at some point, possibly as the Royal Rumble, culminating in a brother vs. brother match at WrestleMania. If that's what happens, then I believe Rhodes will be pushed as a singles wrestler. I think the degree of his push MIGHT revolve around whether or not WWE has two World Championships active after WrestleMania XXX. If they do, then I see Cody Rhodes heading into the World Heavyweight Championship scene. Otherwise, I could see Cody having another possible run as Intercontinental Champion rather than heading into the WWE Championship picture. It's just a feeling I have that Rhodes won't be WWE Champion in 2014. I might be wrong, but I have the feeling that WWE will wait until Rhodes is 30 before giving him a push of that level.

It's cooled because they are in the build up phase to the split with Goldust. They are clearly gonna go there for Mania and while the team were winning everything of course the push seemed hot... for them to get to "breaking point" they have to start losing which will make it seem that it has stalled.

The other side of the coin is that it's actually Dustin who has run with this push far better than Cody has. At this point, he has more scope to become "main event" than Cody does. He is in the best shape of his life and for years has been one of the best workers out there. It's no coincidence that guys like Regal are suddenly getting lots of articles about respect etc... cos he's about done in the ring. Goldust isn't and is actually doing better than your Zigglers, ADR's and younger guys who people think should be pushed. He is one veteran they can give that "cinderella" title chase to and have it resonate with the fans about "being yourself" if he unmasks or running with what life gives you... in some ways Goldust as a character is pretty inspirational to many who don't consider themselves "normal" or mainstream much as Foley was back in the day.

It's not a knock on Cody, and this will lead to a bigger place for him but it just seems at the moment Dustin is gonna be the one moving up for that one last run, which Cody can always end of course. Maybe that's not what was intended when they thought of this but Goldust is working out far better than they could have imagined, and as a respected veteran he may just get what Regal and his ilk never did. Cody's best shot was always the masked version. That had World Champion written all over it, but since they took it off him so Kane could remask he lost that groove he had.

Who said this was a Cody Rhodes push? This wasn't a Cody Rhodes push, it was a chance to get Cody a few weeks vacation so he could do the wedding and honeymoon thing.

He puts on a terrific competitive match with new heel champion Orton and then goes away for a while so he brother and father fights his battles. When he comes back, he comes back with his brother. Everything revolves around him and his family, not just him. People in the IWC speculated that Cody was getting a singles push but they were wrong. So no, it has not failed, it is what it is and it has succeeded beyond anything that could have been expected. Who would have guessed that this tag team would be relevant and exciting six months ago? Who would have guessed these two were going to give us some of the most exciting moments and matched six months ago? Who isn't interested in where and how The Rhodes brothers are going to end?

Personally at this point I think Cody needs to be a heel to be a main event player. As a face the guy checks all the boxes but he checks them all in light colored pencil. In other words, he's good at everything (look, wrestling, mic, legacy, acting, size) but he's great at nothing. As a heel, he is allowed to be more than just himself. He can be over the top and the fans will forget his limitations.

Plus, if the end game is Rhodes v Rhodes at WM, who are the smarks going to route for? A heel veteran highly entertaining Golddust or vanilla face Cody? Make Cody that entertaining heel, have him come out at WM and give the paying fans a huge shock by introducing some new lunatic Rhodes persona like Silverdust. Make Cody go to Golddust's level in order to beat him.

Who said this was a Cody Rhodes push?

Agreed. I'll never understand why some folks on this forum have been so excited about Cody Rhodes future. What's so great about him? Certainly not his personality. He performs well in the ring, but so do a lot of other people. Is the attraction that we've had him put on our TV screens so much that we figure he must be great? I don't get it and never did.

I like him; I've always enjoyed watching him in the ring.....but he's a glorified jobber, not a star. He's been given every gimmick a performer could ever want, and none have been particularly effective.

Has Cody's push failed? I don't think so; he's just been given a different direction.....lately. Now he's in a tag team with his brother, and many fans seem to be having a good time with it. Let it be what it is.

Cody is a favored son in WWE. Probably, he'll get another major push someday. If that's something that excites you, just wait for it and it'll come.

In order for a push to "fail", there needs to be a "push" to begin with. Cody is a mid-card mechanic and always will be. He's never going to get "pushed" at the top of the company. He may get a run w/ the belt for a very short time frame, but it will be on the scale of Christian's "runs".

Cody Rhodes is only going to go so far in WWE.

I enjoyed the Dashing gimmick, and Cody did a nice job with the Disfigured character, but you're fooling yourself if you believe Cody's going to reach Cena, Orton, or Punk levels of popularity for a mainstay main eventer in WWE. He's a solid and reliable mid carder at best. That's it. You can count on Cody to deliver solid and decent matches on a consistent basis, but he's not main eventing Wrestlemania or any other pay per views as a singles star.

For as long as I can remember, there's a crowd out there that continues to clamor for a Cody VS Goldust match at Wrestlemania. In the past, I would've laughed at this match up, but Goldust is riding a wave of resurgence right now, and a brother vs brother match at Wrestlemania XXX gives Cody his best shot to have a meaningful spot on the big show.

The reason why Goldust is so over, is because just like his last match with Jericho, Goldust was over majorly his ring work is seemingly better now then it was in the 90's. Now if you think Goldust getting a reaction hinders Cody you're dead wrong because this can lead to either a major heel turn to get heat, or it helps Cody just by pure fact of these two stealing the show like brother tag teams usually do when they go one on one.

Cody hasn't been relegated to Superstars land, he is constantly on TV, and more importantly he is a focal point in terms of main feuds, and he holds a title. I think this will go a long way in the elevation of Cody Rhodes, he is a young and eager, but at the same time I think he knows its only a matter of time before he holds a title. When Cody is in the main event expect it to be by Royal Rumble next year if not sooner, I think even maybe Elimination Chamber.

From where he was to where he is, is a massive improvement. The Sandow feud was ok but nothing massively engaging. It was a mid-card feud that helped Cody transition from heel to face.

Cody had a mini-feud with Triple H and Randy Orton which is fantastic. Personally, I thought he may have had a few more singles matches (even a WWE title match) against Orton but instead he won the tag-tiles. Him and his brother are over, both are putting on great matches and I think he is in a great position.

The brilliant thing about Cody Rhodes is that he is still younger than Roman Reigns and only has about a year on Big E. He is incredibly young but has been around for a while. He has experience and I reckon it is only a matter of time they realise how good he is.

Cody's career is undoubtedly in a better position that where it was. At WM29 he was initially schedules for the "piss-break" match and even that was cut. From that point, Cody is now a face and is a popular one at that. I am adamant that Cody can be a success and after he drops the tag-titles we will hopefully see just that.
