Greatest Theme Song

klunderbunker

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
This is easy enough. I was watching WM 19 and Hogan comes out to Voodoo Child instead of Real American. The pop is anemic. Switch this up with another show that has Hogan's real music with and you can see how important the song is for a wrestler.

This got me thinking: what is the greatest theme song of all time? For me, I'll go with Real American. There are no exceptions when this song doesn't cause people to mark the fuck out. It's one of the original great theme songs and people always respond to it. You know who it's for and it epitomized his character.

What do you think? Are there any beter ones?

Real American is a great theme song , but for me it has to be Austin's original glass breaking theme song. You talked about marking the fuck out before, well that was it for me. I knew when that glass broke hell was gonna break loose and it was most likely going to be the highlight of that show.
Other good ones, were "If you Smell what The Rock is Cookin","Line in the Sand" (Evolution), and "King of Kings" the latter of which was really never given a chance and I think thats a shame

I have to agree that it is between Stone Cold's glass breaking original song or Hulk Hogan's Real American. One could also make a case for the Ultimate Warrior's theme. Every time I heard that intro I remember the fans going nuts as he raced towards the ring.

I'm going to have to agree with mattmcgee on the Line in the Sand by Motorhead, or really all the custom made Motorhead songs for HHH. Great song even not as a theme song. As far as great theme songs, not just songs that are used as a theme, no song sets the mood like Undertaker's Graveyard Symphony (I remember that title from the WWF Music Album I used to have). I love Randy Orton's Voices song, but more as a song than a theme song. I'm not sure if he ever used it, but there's a Jeff Hardy highlight video on youtube that uses Permanent by Acceptance. That should be a theme song.

I think one of the worst ones is Koko B Ware's Piledriver mess. I just got Legends of Wrestlemania and every time it comes on I want to turn the power off.

There are a couple I can think of right away that are at least equal to Real American. I'll restrict myself to the top four...

1) Glass Shatters - Stone Cold Steve Austin - As soon as the sound of that breaking glass hits the place goes absolutely nuts. Without fail, you know that "business is about to pick up!"

2) If You Smell... - The Rock - Pretty much the same story. Its been so long since we've HEARD this music that its kinda hard to remember, but that opening catchphrase will make a crowd go ballistic in a heartbeat.

3) Funeral March - The Undertaker - The light's go out, the bell tolls, and people lose their ever-loving minds.

4) No Chance - Mr. McMahon - This is absolutely THE perfect song that epitomizes everything that McMahon stands for, and it creates an immediate reaction when it hits.

Those are my thoughts anyway...

While I agree that Hogan and Austin's theme songs are def among the best theme songs ever, as they make EVERYONE in the arena mark out, I really think that HHH's "Play The Game" really hits the nail on the head in terms of describing the guy who comes out to it. It practically does the trash talking for Triple H, as the song is really in your face and almighty-like, just like Hunter himself. If you measure 'greatest theme song' in terms of how well it readies the crowd for the wrestler who's about to come out, then there's not much better than Motorhead's "Play The Game" for HHH. Its that damn good.

I have quite a deal of difficulty only choosing one so I shall list a few.

Bret Hart - Aside from the fact that Bret is my all time wrestler his theme song was also one of my all time favourites as the crowd absolutely lost it when you first hear that guitar squeal along with the riff that follows.

Steve Austin - Silence....and when you list expect it. *glass shatters*. His rebellious theme embodies his character.

The Rock - Attempt not to applause when you hear this theme and you will find it nearly impossible. The Rock always had his traditional swagger when approaching the ring and without this specific theme, it would just look silly.

Jake Roberts - His theme was rather chilling and unsettling but that was all apart of the Jake Roberts character as a whole. A perfect marriage.

Hulk Hogan - Love or hate him the fans still rise to their feet in anticipation of The Hulkster's presence.

Brock Lesnar - Personally this one always got my blood pumping and I am sure many would agree.

Brian Pillman - He had a great theme during his WWF period which very few remember. I have shown this theme to several individuals where the general opinion is.....creepy! It's psychotic, demonic and fit the loose cannon character perfectly.

One of the most under appreciate theme songs of all time.

christian's "just close your eyes" theme (not the current ******ed version) always gave me goosebumps when the song would commence and christian, along with tomko, would come out to the ring.

I have a few favorites, i always loved Bret Hart, Undertaker's Ministry theme, Triple H's The Game of course, all his Motorhead themes were great, Orton's Voices, Christian's Waterproof Blonde version.. there was so many good themes..

you can't forget about Mean Street Posse's theme though, i always liked it as well :)

but if we switch to WCW, i know alot, if not most of 'em were copies off of "real" songs, but one of my favorite's there was Raven's, when he was with the Flock

My personal favorite was always Demolition's theme song. Other favorites we're Slicks, Razor Ramon's and Shawn Michaels.

The greatest one ever is hands down Real American. It's the only theme song that pretty much anyone on earth can hear and know it's Hulk Hogan's theme song. Besides it's an overall great theme song that totally fit the Hogan character (Even though it was actually written for the US Express).

Demolitions will always be my favorite though. One of the all time classic theme songs.

This thread is going to be really long. I think the greatest theme songs are the ones with the hook: the first sound effect/chord/etc. Some examples would be Undertakers "Dong," HHH's opening chord, Stone Cold's "Breaking Glass," and DX's "Are You Ready?" Personally, those are really the songs I like.

The best ever as far as I'm concerned is the Rock's. Tell me that doesn't have the smell of main-event. It automatically got you interested, and I think just from the musical perspective the music sounds great.

I think Undertaker's song fits him better than any song has ever, or ever will, fit somebody else.

Goldberg had a great theme song, D-X's song is pretty badarse, and anything from Motorhead gets you into the upcoming match.

I like HHH sticking with "The Game", and I hope Orton (maybe Cena) follow suit. One great theme song you're always known by for almost your entire career gives you an extra pep of credibility.

Anyways I'd reiterate overall I think "If You Smell" is the best going away.

"Shattered Glass" - Stone Cold Steve Austin's Entrance Music, because everyone popped and marked out to it, not just marks and smarks, but even the non-wrestling fans who tuned in to see SCSA whoop ass and drink beer.
And Triple H gets and honorable mention, because even nunzio would get a pop coming out to Motörhead.

And on Hulk Hogan's entrance... well I'm going to have to go with Bobby Heenan on this one:

" Heenan: 'That's my second favorite song.'
Monsoon: 'I'm almost afraid to ask. Whats your favorite?'
Heenan: 'All the rest are tied.' "

Sexy boy-HBK

the song is timeless. hes had this theme for almost 20 years an the crowd stills goes wild. hes the only wrestler that i know of to have the same theme song throught there career. no matter what era or period wrestling goes through the song remains the same.

I also like rhino's tna theme and christians theme @ wm 18

I love Voices for Randy Orton. It is an amazing song, I've probably listened to it over 100 times since the CD came out, but it also fits the character so perfectly. As for an older one, how about DDP's "Self High Five?" It always got the crowd involved, heel or face version, and it is a very good instrumental version of a great song (Smells Like Teen Spirit).

Best music for the wrestlers gimmick............

1. Glass Shatter
2. Real American

But the absolute coolest theme was Mr. Perfect's perfect theme.

My top 5 favorite theme songs in no particular order are

1) Edge Never Gonna Stop by Rob Zombie

2) Randy Orton theme Voices by Rev Theory

3) Billy Kidman'a Last WWE theme "You Can Run"

4) Kurt Angle's current TNA theme

5) Kane's old theme by finger eleven

also liked Undertaker's american badass theme rollin' by limp bizkit, RVD's ECW theme respect Walk, AJ Styles' theme I Am, NWO Theme and Goldberg's theme from WCW

Def agree with your choices. I go with Hogans, but I always enjoyed Demolitions. Wrestlezone had a tourny, and it came down to those two. And Slick's song is priceless. I loved the Rougeau's "All American Boys".

Wait.....what about Macho? Listening to that theme, the original, when it gets high pitched, esp when he won the title at Wrestlemania 4 is great. Its a song that makes you think celebration and the end.

i personally loved both of ortons theme.is current one voices and his previous one burn in my light.i loved whatever(benoits)by our lady peace.one cuz im a big fan of the band.but you just have to go with austins glass shatters.that one never gets old.also like cm punks theme, this fire burns

Am I the only one who loves Edge's current song. His entrance and song fit him so well. its perfect. Really embodies the whole Rated R Superstar persona

Especially since it is by a Christian rock band. It is a great song however. Altar Bridge, the band that does the song Metallingus, is just Creed with a new singer. All of their stuff is mainstream rock with Christian undertones. The intro (which is actually the outro in the song) is great, and does make for a great entrance, however.

RVD One of a Kind- Is there a song that more perfectly describes "The Whole F'n Show?"

Triple H My Time- While I agree with Playthegame about The Game, but it was Triple H's title chase that converted me from WCW to WWF. This song seem to really tell his story. Seizing the moment. 1999 was his time. No more sitting back and pointing to his crotch to the amusement of the fans. He had a job to do and felt he was every bit as good as Mankind, Austin, Taker, and Rock and he was going to make that his time. He would be noticed. Using the DX singer helped with the transition from DX crashing the show to Triple H seizing it. The opening was a bit disturbing the first couple of times I heard it, but Triple H disturbed the main-event landscape by inserting himself in the middle of the previously mentioned stars.

Evolution Line in the Sand- This fit Orton so well. The song was slow, deliberate and was about evolution. Orton's character was/still is primarily slow in speech, deliberate in action, and is the next step in the evolution.

Brood- perfectly fit their entrance. Perfectly fit the group. Evil yet cool.

Jericho Walls of Jericho- Don't necessarily know why but this music for some reason made me take Jericho more seriously. Maybe because it wasn't some little rift that sounds like it was thrown together in 3 minutes (like most starters and jobbers music sound like).

Goldberg- Man I grew to hate this guy quickly but his music was perfect. I always could picture an army marching for some reason and with Goldberg as the opponent, one might have well be facing an army.

Razor Ramon- music just seemed as slick as "The Bad Guy's" hair and as cool as his demeanor.

These are the ones that come to me with how well they fit the wrestler. If a song doesn't fit, you don't buy the character.

There have been a lot of great ones. Real American, Austin's glass break, Mr. Perfect's, Psycho Sid's in WWF, Razor Ramon, Rock's, DX, Bret Hart's, I even liked Demolitions alot. However, the one that made everyone look toward the enterance way to see who was coming was the nWo! Yea the porn music! It was great and made you look and get excited everytime. How about worst ever. I'm going with American Males, Sgt. Slaughters drum roll(if you don't believe me watch survivor series 91 or 92 when he cuts a promo while his music is going on his way to the ring), or Isac Yankem with the drill.
