Goldust VS Cody Angle

Pylon

Dark Match Jobber
Been thinking about this match that is likely on its way, and how to do it with two guys fans still love. Here's the pitch...

They lose the straps (done), start to feud. GD refuses to fight Cody, so not much comes of it. A match is made for EC, loser leaves WWE. GD lays down for Cody, Cody refuses to pin him, they both walk out.

Put them in a series of tag matches on opposite sides leading up to WM, still refusing to fight each other. Announce the same match will take place, loser leaves, for WM. Then at WM just before the start of the match, change the match to a winner leaves match.

Sets up a great run where they take care of each other, neither have to turn, and then they can have an emotional match together with each fighting to keep the other one employed. Would be original, compelling and give them a reason for a spectacular match.

Personally I would rather this feud be done post-WM. It would be good to help elevate Cody as a singles guy again. If done now, it would draw much much less attention,lMO

The simple way to go is have the big brother getting jealous of how good the younger brother is. Goldust challenges his brother to see good he truly is, have Daddy referee the match and presto, Cody Rhodes vs Goldust with Dusty Rhodes as the guest referee. Cody wins, clean after a solid 15 minute match, and all three Rhodes hold hands aloft at the end of the match, no heel turn, no shit, just a feelgood moment and the kickstart hopefully of Cody towards the main event roster.

I like this. I don't want to see Cody turn again, and I definitely don't want to see Goldust as a heel, this kind of set-up is simple, clean, and works out nicely. Perfect way to pass on the torch to Cody, showing that Cody earned the family name and can move onto bigger and better things.

I don't think I've ever seen a "winner leaves the WWE" match, it sounds like a pretty damn good idea. Too bad great ideas tend to go way over the heads of WWE creative.

I would say maybe throw in some manipulation by HHH and Steph, show a cut back to when Cody cut the worked shoot on how the McMahons have had it in for the Rhodes family since day one. HHH offers Cody money, no deal. Steph offers Goldie a world title shot, no deal. HHH lies to Goldie and Steph lies to Cody telling them that the other one had taken the deal. They still refuse to fight. Maybe have Dusty ref the "winner leaves" match. Make it special, I think a great many fans still have a soft spot for that family.

I've always wished that for a Survivor Series they had booked Cody Goldie and Dusty against The Shield. Either way, I'm just glad that the WWE is even trying to further this storyline in any way.

Ain't happening at Mania. Nor does it look like they're even considering it. I see a multi-man match, possibly elimination, for the tag titles with Goldust turning on the show.

Once this angle ends, Goldust is all but done, so they're not going to promote a match between the two on anything other than a 'B' show. And nobody would actually care about it on what will be a stacked card.

I read somewhere that Goldust isn't expected to be around much after WM, which would mean that his contract would end around then, at least his on screen portion of his contract. Honestly, the tag team is good, but they have 2+ months to create a really awesome brotherhood feud.

On one hand, it seems as if a limited run is all they intended to give Goldust in the first place. They've given this poor guy the boot several times over the years and I was surprised to see him back for this go-around. Yet, he's been working so effectively and looks so slim & trim, I've been hoping they'd keep him for good.......not as an eternal tag team partner for his half-brother, but as an influential presence backstage and occasional ring performer.

However, if they truly are sending him off after his program with Cody, I see no particular reason not to do an in-family, loser-leaves-WWE scenario. True, there wouldn't be much suspense as to which one is leaving, but Dustin's past send-offs were always done without fanfare; we'd read on-line about his being future endeavored. If this is to be his last round-up with WWE, it wouldn't be a bad thing to watch the fans at the arena give him a fond farewell.

BTW, I'm talking about a match in which both of them are faces; that's something we rarely see in WWE and it might be enjoyable to watch.

I keep posting this, but I really like the idea of The American Dream being involved, forcing his sons to determine who the heir of the Rhodes name will be, Dustin or Cody. Or come in and tell Dustin to give it up, he's too old, etc.

Involve Dusty, and have them all promo and brawl, etc. It would be great old fashioned territory style wrestling.

Goldust as of late, has looked great. Better than his hey-day but the man is 45 years old and teh WWE has treated him like shit over the past. Several times, they have given him the boot but maybe this is their way of making it all up to him. I know it doesn't matter what we all want, but the speculation was a brother vs brother match at WM.

It could come down to a scenario where Big Bro is jealous of Little bro, having multiple arguments and eventually a match at WM where loser leaves town type of deal. Goldust is well pure gold right now pardon the pun,he has never looked as good as he does right now.

I would have it written somewhere along these lines. Goldust becomes increasingly frustrated over the weeks. Cody tries to figure out why he is acting so differently. Eventually he reveals that for the first time in his life he was finally happy. His health and lifestyle was the best it's been and he finally felt comfortable in his career after having to be "just Dusty's son", the sexually questionable perver, the stupid gimmicks in other promotions. He finally had what he had dreamed up, but now that dream is shattered because his contract will expire soon now that he no longer carries the Tag Title. Eventually you see segments of him in the back drinking or coming to the ring drunk and going back to the old ways.
Eventually the authority comes out and offers Goldust a "Golden Opportunity". If Goldust defeats his brother at Wrestlemania then he can have a shot at any singles title he wants at any time(MITB style), including the one that evaded him his entire career. The only catch is, that if Cody Rhodes loses, he will be fired. He has until the end of the night to think about it and sign the contract. The whole night you see Goldust in the back thinking. The end up the night, they have the table set up with the contract. Triple H and Stephanie are in the ring and call out both of the brothers. They come out and blah blah blah. Cody tells him that he is willing to do it. Goldust says that he can't end his brother's career and that he already had his time in the business. Goldust rips up the contract and tells Triple H to shove it. Triple H and Stephanie tell Goldust they will allow him 5 minutes in the ring to make his farewell to the fans since he will never step foot in a WWE ring again. He has a nice little farewell speech like Mark Henry, tears in his eyes, he hugs Cody. Then BAM! He attacks Cody. Beat's him down with a chair. Even takes him in the corner for Shattered Dreams. Triple H pulls another contract out of his jacket and smiles as Goldust signs it right on top of Cody. They have some heated exchanges of words back and forth. Goldust constantly costs matches for Cody meanwhile Goldust always has the Shield at ringside for protection during his matches. Dusty gets involved and pleads with Triple H to not tear his family apart any more. They end up making Dusty the referee so that he has to decide which son wins and goes on and which son goes home. They blame Dusty for ruining Goldusts career and forcing him into a life of alcohol abuse and divorce. He has the chance to fix it, but by doing so he will ruin the career of his other newly married son.
Eventually we get to Mania. They put on a great match and Dusty ends up turning on Cody and helps Goldust win. Goldust gets to now fight for any title he wants anytime he wants. Now you would think Goldust would go after the WWEWHC. But he doesn't. Instead you have him up to his creepy mind games and he continually stalks Big E Langston. Even havin golden glitter shower on him during matches. I think the feud would be entertaining and would bring more relevance to the IC title.
So there are a couple reasons I chose Goldust to be the heel in this scenario. I feel someone needs to be a heel to make it emotional. Most Goldust fans like hime because of nostalgia anyways so those fans will be pleased to see him at WM period. The reason why I have Cody lose is because after Mania we will have a lot of focus on Daniel Bryan(who probably wins the belt), Bray Wyatt(after facing Cena), Sting(assuming reports are true), the Wyatt Family, The Shield Break up, pushing Roman Reigns, and pushing Big E. I think that all of these things would easily overshadow a Cody Rhodes single push and that he is currently over because of his brother. So we get rid of him and bring him back later on, either at Summer Slam or later. This way he will get a bigger pop when he either gets revenge on his brother or comes in as the hero to the big heel at the time.

It was a bad idea taking the belts of Cody and Goldust because they finally were bringing some respect back to the tag team division. I heard they could be facing off at WM 30 so with the popularity of Goldust it would be better if cody works as the heel. Overall i think they should have just kept the belts on Cody and Goldust.

I think this is another example of the WWE acting pigheaded and forging ahead with a plan they mapped out months ago despite the current state of affairs. We can all admit that, likely, the WWE did not expect Goldust and Cody to catch fire the way they did. Who would have predicted that:

  • The Rhodes Family would absolutely steal the show on PPV
  • Goldust de Leon would look and work as good as he has
  • The Rhodes Brothers would revitalize a division that has been dead in the water for years
  • The Rhodes Brothers would be the highlight of WWE television for weeks

This had to be unexpected and I'll wager that, despite the unexpected rise of the Brotherhood, the WWE wants to move forward with the original plans. Is it the right move? No, certainly not, especially when you consider how well the Brotherhood has been working and how much of a boon to that division they've been. I was really looking forward to watching some kind of a rematch between them and The Shield or even against the Wyatts at Mania. Instead, we're being force-fed yet another feud that is either unwanted or premature. Welcome to the State of the WWE.

I'd book the match with Dusty involved, obviously. Have the authority involved too, didn't know how I was gonna get them involved with the Rhodes brothers back again but since NAO won the titles, it makes it easier. NAO are with Triple H and that means they're with the authority.

Now, have the Rhodes Dynasty call out the Authority for randomly naming the NAO the #1 Contender. Have them say its just because they're buddies with Triple H and because of their history with the Authority. Have the Authority screw them over and over and after EC, have the Authority say: with NXT guys moving up, there's only room for one Rhodes, and at Mania, it'll be decided which Rhodes brother will remain. Triple H then makes the match for Mania: Goldust vs Cody Rhodes; loser leaves the WWE. Have both of them stay face rather than turning one heel. 2 weeks after the match was made, Dusty was tweeting about how unfair the match was and then decided to confront Triple H on Raw. Triple H says since he's under contract with the WWE, he is Dusty's boss so he then makes Dusty be the special guest referee for the match between Cody and Goldust.

I'd book the brothers as a tag team until Mania. On the go home show (Raw or SD) I'd have a 3 on 3 match with the Rhodes family vs the Shield (if the shield will be facing one another at the show). This would be build as "Partners for the last time" or "Partners tonight, foes this Sunday" which would be intended for both teams. I'd have the Rhodes family win since they're face and don't have "problems" as a group, like the Shield. The Shield would be dysfunctional so they would lose. I'd have both Cody and Goldust standing up after the match in the ring, looking around and then staring at each other, then they both look at the 'mania sign with Dusty in the background of the staredown.

If Goldust does lose and retires, it'll create an emotional moment for the Rhodes family and for the fans at Mania.
