Cody VS Goldust WMXXX Idea

Occasional Pre-Show
Hi all I'm new but a long time follower. I hope I put this in the right area so if I don't please forgive me. Anyway I been reading posts about Cody vs Goldust at WM XXX and who would be the heel and face. Now I have a younger brother and we fought growing up. Now even tho we may have been mad at each other briefly we always were fine and still are to this day. Anyway to the point of the thread. Now I was thinking why do either one have to be a heel? We have seen brother vs brother with one being a heel and the other a face. However I think it be refreshing to have two brothers going at it in a good old friendly brother vs brother ass kicking match.

The scenario I was thinking was you have The Rhodes Brothers losing the titles to someone (I'd like to see The Real Americans getting a shot with the belts) and after their rematch still end up losing. Neither blames the other. There is no "weak link" or whatever other reasons teams have broken up. Anyway in a backstage promo you have the two brothers agreeing to go back to singles since they both have the goal of winning the Heavyweight belt. Now instead of the younger brother attacking his older brother he clearly asks for a match. His point being is that he never beat him and before he gets too old he wants one last match against him. No gimmicks, no Dusty swerve, Dusty serving as the referee. Just two brothers putting on one hell of a match at Wrestlemania with possibly having a WM moment together. You could have Dusty, instead of pleading for the match not to happen, but a promise both will be fair and safe. After the match you have all 3 embracing. It be a great family moment. I feel both are better suited now as faces and this would be a refreshing brother vs brother story line. What do you all think?

It's not a bad way of doing it, it's not necessarily how I'd book it, but it could work. I definitely want to see Cody vs Goldust as I believe they've done such a great job over the past 6 months to warrant a match at the big event.

Personally, I'd book them to lose the titles at the Royal Rumble to The Real Americans, as you've said, as well as losing the rematch either on RAW or at Elimination Chamber. However I'd love to see Goldust become the snarly older brother who feels offended by Cody - maybe Cody said something about Goldust by accident. I'd book it in a similar fashion to the Michaels/Flair match, with Goldust being adamant that he's still better than Cody. Dusty would be the special guest ref, and I'd have Goldust take offense and maybe bring up the fact that Dusty always had it in for him, which is why they had a falling out and he'd left (IRL) etc. In the end though, Cody would beat him with no interference or anything like that. Just a clean, 1...2...3. Post-match, I'd have Goldust congratulate Cody and then they would have their moment with Dusty.

I do agree with your idea booking because I was thinking the same thing. The best choice for me is having the rematch at Elimination Chamber because I think leading up to the match you could have great 1 on 1 single matches between the two teams. Be some good Raw and Smack Down matches. Now for me personally and this is just my opinion I'd like to see two siblings go at it with no reasons except for a good old sibling rivarly match. When one usually fights with their brother there is no heel or face because usually both are equally at fault. However you always have your brothers back even when you are mad at them. However let me see if this would work for you. Lets say Goldust does become the snarly brother. Would you prefer if Goldust got rid of his Goldust gimmick to go to his real self Dustin Runnels or stay as Goldust? I'd prefer is just for this one match Dustin ditches the Goldust costume and wrestles as himself. Give it a more of a brother vs brother feel cause I don't ever remember dressing up before beating my lil brothers butt haha.

That's where it could get interesting. Lets say Goldust takes the pin in both title match losses. So he's already upset at himself for losing, and upset that he's let Cody down. Cody could make his intentions clear that he's focused on singles competition again - trying to have a crack the WWE WHC or US title for example - with Dusty Rhodes telling him that's a great idea. Goldust could take offence, saying that Cody and Dusty are abandoning him and the feud ensues. I think Goldust getting rid of the facepaint and costume and coming out as Dustin Rhodes would work incredibly well in the build up. Except I'd have him wrestle the match as Goldust.

Hmm, you guys bring up some interesting points. I think the best way to go about it would be for another superstar or Brad Maddox/Vickie Guerrero to suggest that Cody & Goldust have had such a great run. Why waste time on another tagtitle re-match when the WWE Universe can find out who is the BETTER RHODES on the Grandest stage of all WM XXX. Or have a stipulation set that in tagtitle re-match the losing team must break-up. Leading up to successful singles victories for both where Dusty suggests as much as it pains him to say it maybe it's time to see how Cody & Goldust fair against one another. They've invested so much into Cody's face turn it is way too soon to turn him back heel. Goldust is so popular at the moment would the fans even boo him? I have no doubt that Dustin turning on his brother would provide some great drama, but turning him and then after the match having another Rhodes family moment is it worth it? The more I think about it. The more I agree this should be a face/face match. And yes we all want to see it.

My scenario would be the Brotherhood loses the tag team titles by the Elimination Chamber PPV, and once they failed in their rematch clause, the Authority steps in and tells them that there's still not enough room for both Rhodes brothers in the WWE. This leads to Goldust vs. Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XXX, not by choice, but by force. At Mania, the aging veteran Goldust puts over his younger brother, and retires from full-time competition (could stick around as a part-timer though). They have a heartfelt moment in the ring after the match, and Cody successfully becomes a true babyface (something he hasn't been before). THAT, in my mind, would be the successful conclusion to a storyline that both brothers have been pushing to carry out for years.

A good way to help with Cody Rhodes face turn, would be to have him beat Goldust senseless to the stage where he could easily win the match, however instead he either lets Goldust win by count-out or similar, or even calls the match off and helps walk Goldust out of the arena

I could see it happening. The Authority would do something like that. Great idea!

yeah I dont think Cody gains anythnig from turning back heel yet again, and Goldust dosesnt need the win. And having Dusty involved gives another legend somethnig to do on the biggest card of the year.

Interesting suggestions in here and it sidesteps the issue of who you turn heel. I honestly think Cody has found his groove as a face and I honestly don't see a lot of people turning against Goldust at this point of his career either.

The Rhodes boys fighting it out for the sheer sake of seeing who is the better man would make a great story for Wrestlemania
