Cody Vs Goldust who should be the face

ASKane

Championship Contender
It seems like this match is likely to happen as it is something they have both been pushing for. I think WWE's initial plan would have been to have Cody as the face but after how the fans have taken to Goldust they might reconsider and I think they should because I think Cody gains more from a win if he is the heel rather than the face.

If Cody is the face he will have Goldust turn on him and probably cost him the title and as it builds to Wrestlemania Goldust will talk about not having his Dad around growing up and will take out his frustrations on Cody. When Cody wins at Wrestlemania he would have settled a family issue and probably gained very little

If Cody is the heel they could have him cost Goldust the title which will get him heat because Goldust is more over than him. This will then lead to Cody being jealous and challenging him to a loser retires match and when he retires Goldust who fans like it will get him more heel heat and I think this will benefit his career far more than what he gains from winning as a face

Your Thoughts

Cody Rhodes will be the absolute heel in that potential rivalry and it isn't a discussion - everything in a storyline standpoint, the emphasis on Goldust in the entrance, in the commentary team, etc is building reasons for Cody Rhodes to turn on his brother out of jealous. Quite frankly the crowd would not want it any other way - Goldust is too much of a nostalgia symbol to be hated by the fans.

It's also a lot more interesting to see the veteran going against the up and comer, specially when they are brothers and it's out of jealous. Cody Rhodes is good enough in the microphone to lead this feud in the promo aspect, while Goldust is over and loved enough to a point where selling and small interviews are enough for a good and interesting build.

Also, one question that popped into my head is - Dusty Rhodes. Should the WWE Hall of Famer be involved in his sons dispute? Who will he side with? To me it doesn't almost matter the direction that they are going because it's really hard to go wrong in that storyline, so I'm enjoying it, I'm enjoying their success as of right now and I'll continue to do so until the time comes for them to split and feud. Really hoping for a feud.

When they initially bring back Goldust, didn't Steph mention how Dusty was never there and was a shit father and whatnot. Even something how he preferred Cody? I'm not sure but I think there were some connotations that Goldust should be jealous of Cody which means he could turn heel.

I personally think Cody should be the one staying as a face, if they feud at all. He is now a popular face and is having some fantastic matches. As a heel, he was still a great wrestler but he wasn't going anywhere. They cannot let him go back to being a heel which will result in him being lost in the shuffle.

Surely they must keep Cody face and push him as a singles star to see how far this momentum carries him. Unfortunately, there are some decent faces around him; Cena, Bryan, Punk, Sheamus, Ziggler, Big E but it wouldn't hurt to see him stay as a face. He definitely has the talent to be at the very top but they just need a change in direction.

I think that Cody would gain more as a heel as well. Goldust might honestly be better now than he's ever been inside the ring. He's probably in the best shape of his career as well. I think that Cody might honestly just be more comfortable as a heel than he is as a babyface. If he's a face, maybe a feud with Goldust will be enough to sort of bring him out of his shell.

At the same time, however, Goldust harboring bitter feelings for years due to their father being so much more involved in Cody's life than his own makes for a much more compelling story. Cody being jealous of Goldust's reception by the fans since his return sounds lackluster right from the get go. It comes off as petty, where as the other story has some genuine depth to it that many people can relate to. Dustin Runnells did grow up without his father being there most of the time as he was earning a living and that can genuinely have a traumatic effect on someone. On one hand, you have to sympathize with Dustin's plight while, on the other, it's not Cody's fault that his father found happiness with another woman and had another son much later in life once his in-ring career was in its final years. It's not logical for Dustin to blame Cody, but logic goes out the window often times when it comes to deep, emotional pain that's been festering for decades. Even though Goldust would be a heel, it could still be kind of easy to be somewhat sympathetic.

I think Cody should be the face, if for no other reason than he's already played a heel for so long. Dustin's the guy who's been released a re-hired a couple times already by the company. He should have been a fixture with the company all these years.....and I'm amazed how well he's working now. He looks as good in his 40's as he did in his 20's.

I say give Dustin a chance to spread his wings and be the bad guy. Let him wreak some serious havoc as Goldust; he's earned it with all his years of service. They don't have to go back to having him wear women's underwear :disappointed: but a heel turn would be entertaining.

At the same time, I wouldn't mind if both guys stay face while battling each other. That's something we don't often see, yet I think two guys so well-known to us as Cody and Dustin could pull it off. If they do this, the fans will start pulling for one guy or another, and it would be fun to see which way they go as things develop.

I don't understand. Do people actually want to see Cody vs Goldust at Wrestlemania 30? I am being honest, I do not see the appeal of this match. Goldust is an outdated character. I don't care about him anymore. Cody Rhodes is talented and deserves a better, bigger, meaningful match. I think this is a disservice to Cody.

I think both Cody and Goldust need to be faces.

Goldust is a veteran, he needs to retire with the fans supporting him, not booing him.

Cody gets a lot more reaction from the crowd now as a face than he ever gained in the past as a heel. A heel turn would kill his momentum.

When Goldust is ready to retire (maybe at WM 31 or 32), I think they should set up an angle like the one with Ric Flair/HBK in WM 24:

- A few weeks before Mania, HHH (or Vince or Stephanie or any heel authority figure, but let's consider HHH) says that Goldust is too old to wrestle and needs to retire. Goldust says he still can wrestle, and HHH says he needs to prove it winning against three wrestlers that he will handpick in the next weeks on RAW. If he loses to any of them, he will have to retire.

- Goldust wins cleanly against some strong midcard heel first, like Ryback.

- Then HHH picks a top heel, like Randy Orton, to face Goldust. In the middle of the match, Goldust is taking a beating from Orton then the referee is knocked down, Cody shows up with a chair, the Rhodes Brothers give Orton a 2-on-1 beatdown, Cody leaves, the referee wakes up, Goldust pins Orton for the win.

- HHH says he could ban Cody from the WWE for what he did, but he will give him one chance to not get banned. He forces Cody to be the third wrestler Goldust will face, a career vs career match is set up at Wrestlemania. Dusty Rhodes is called to be the special referee.

- Goldust cuts a promo saying he is ready to step aside, because Cody is younger and still has a lot to do. Cody comes out and says that the honor of the Rhodes family name would be disgraced by both of them if they agree to do something like that. They must have a real fight and let the better man win, with no hard feelings whatsoever. They shake hands and hug each other in agreement.

- Cody wins the match, and the whole Rhodes family hug in the end.

- A feud between Triple H and Cody is set up: Cody wants revenge because HHH forced him to retire his brother.

CODY is good as a heel.so he should be the heel..Goldust becoming heel he will not sell it..Anyway they can both work as faces..But i dont think anything great about this match n i dont wanna see it..

Face vs Face, no need to turn either heel. I personally think the crowd have reacted to Goldust much more than they have for Cody, this is mainly because he is the veteran and Cody hasn't really proved to be the star of the team.

I was also thinking neither needs to turn heel. There really is no need to. Both have had big pops recently. Why ruin that? Add Papa Dusty in the mix and let the fans decide who they want to win and root for.

Turning one heel is another way for the WWE to say "You'll boo this guy and you'll like it."

Cleissonsg, love that scenario for the two. Get the fans rallying behind both men, making it hard to choose as both are well liked, and the look on Dusty's face as he counts three, then raises Cody's hand be a heartfelt and def. Wrestlemania moment

From the standpoint of Goldy being so over due to his being a veteran, it will be hard to turn him heel, so I think Cody has to be the heel. The issue with Cody as a heel is he looks like the captain of the football team with a heart of gold. Seriously, I've seen babies who look more intimidating than Cody Rhodes. So they will likely need to turn him into a jealous heel, he is jealous of how over his brother is, and I worry that he won't be able to build legit momentum going forward as the guy who is jealous of his older brother.

The aspect of turning Goldy into a vengeful and spiteful heel over Cody getting their dad's attention is interesting, but I think some people, too many people in fact, would still cheer for Goldy.

One way I think Cody could get some legit heat, is if they run a story bringing up the constant ups and downs in Goldy's career. You have a guy who never lived up to his full potential due to various levels of drugs and other personal issues, has been fired from WWE multiple times for various issues, yet he is still getting love and praise. I think if that is something the Rhodes family is willing to do, it could be money.
