Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Maybe so, but the poor Dunmer who fled from their home after it exploded to a life of poverty are still going to feel (rightfully) pissed off at their situation. They may be grateful to the Nords for giving them their island now, but given some Thalmor "guidance" and a few more years of poverty and that may change.

Or alternatively, Thalmor start using the unemployed Dunmer of Raven's Borrow for cheap labour, or even conscripts to prepare for the next stage of the war.

Actually, after killing the old Dragonborn, the mines reopen and things seem to be on the up and up at Raven's Rock (not Barrow, my bad). I wonder if the Dunmer will be thankful for the hero of Skyrim's involvement in solving their problems.

Emphasis on the seem. The Bosmer seemed to be happy as part of the Empire. Until they weren't.

Also, as an estimate, how many unemployed/poverty striken Dunmer would you say there are there in Solstheim? Because if the kidnapped smith was making arms and armour intended to be given to the Dunmer at some stage (to take control of the island for Thalmor's reasons) the army's not quite so small any more. Even if it's still not substantial enough to mount an invasion, it's probably sufficient to hold the island long enough for it to be of use.

At the beginning there are three residents that are particularly destitute, but there are also three or four people that simply hate living in Raven's Rock. That said, there are 4 or 5 prominent business owners that enjoy living there as well as a few residents that don't seem to mind it so much.

The kidnapped smith isn't from Raven's Rock, he's from the Skaal village on the Northern part of the island. The Skaal are Nords and native to the island, and they seem to be heavily based on the Inuit people. They wear thick coats, live in constant cold and darkness, have different traditions than the rest of Skyrim, and they seem to get by by hunting horkers. He wasn't making weaponry for the Dunmer, or even the Skaal. He just happens to be the keeper of the information of how to make it. As far as I can tell, nobody from the Skaal village even used the special type of weapons and armor he spoke of, they all use Nordic weaponry.

Okay, so I'm going to sum up the events of the Dragonborn DLC that I think might effect the conversation Barbosa, Remix, and myself were having, as well as the main quest of Dragonborn. Don't look in the spoilers if you're planning on playing it and don't want it to get ruined.

So your Dragonborn is hanging out in one of the main cities when suddenly two Dragon Cultists approach him and attack him, saying that he is an imposter and there is only one true Dragonborn. You find a note on one of their corpses that directs you to Solstheim, and it's signed by Miraak. You head to the docks at Windhelm and hitch a ride to Solstheim. Once you arrive, you ask around town about Miraak, and everyone remembers the name, but they can't place it.

Turns out Miraak has been manipulating the people of Solstheim with mind control to build these shrines to him to help increase his power. After busting into the temple he had built for himself along with a woman who says she's from the Skaal, you find out that Miraak is the original dragon born and he has been working with Hermaeus Mora to return to Tamriel and use his powers to take over the world.

You head back to the Skaal village where the elders tell you to destroy the shrines with a new shout you learned and to hook up with a Dunmer named Neloth. Neloth is a delightfully grouchy and incredibly powerful sorcerer from the Great House Telvanni, and he help explain the power of the Black Books that the Dragonborn needs to defeat Miraak. He helps the Dragonborn find a Black Book that drags the Dragonborn to the Plane of Hermaeus Mora, and it is here that Hermaeus Mora explains to the Dragonborn how to defeat Miraak. It turns out that Hermaeus Mora holds the secret to how to defeat Miraak, and he is only willing to give it up if the Dragonborn can convince the Skaal to reveal their secrets.

So the Dragonborn agrees to do this and he goes back to the Skaal village and asks the elder to spill the secrets to Hermaeus Mora. The elder reveals that, despite the fact that Herma-Mora is the clan's worst enemy, there are prophecies that say that eventually he'll have to reveal their secrets to him, so he decides to do it. Then comes an extremely disturbing scene where Hemaeus Mora's tentacles pop out of a book and wrap around the elder and drain all his knowledge and energy, and leaves him dead. Hermaeus Mora keeps his word, though, and shares the secret (the final part of a shout that allows you to control dragons) to defeating Miraak.

The Dragonborn then opens a good book and is magically teleported to the realm of Hermaeus Mora where Miraak is hanging out. After a few puzzles the Dragonborn is attacked by a dragon, but he uses his new shout to tame the beast. It is at this point where you are able to ride the dragon and command him to kick the ever loving shit out of a whole bunch of mother fuckers, and you eventually meet up with Miraak. The battle with Miraak is interesting, but not all that hard once you get off the dragon. He has two other dragons protecting him, and I think he absorbs their health every time you come close to killing him. Eventually you bring his health down really low, and Mermaeus Mora finishes him off, stating that you will be his new champion. You can refuse, but he says that as long as you seek knowledge, you'll always be his champion. He then offers you the ability to trade a dragon soul in exchange for wiping any skill tree, which is awesome considering I put 4 skill points into Destruction that would be better spent in Speech, and I can't wait to wipe my one handed weapon perks after I get 100 and put them into... gee, I don't even know, the possibilities are endless.

Anyway, the fun is just beginning after you kill Miraak. It turns out that Miraak has been plaguing Solstheim for a while, and by killing him you've made things right for the land, and everyone is really happy and thanks you profusely.

You can run a few more quests for Neloth and eventually be inducted into House Telvanni, even if the Dragonborn isn't a Dark Elf. I thought that was pretty awesome.

You also wind up saving the chief of House Redoran's life when one of the other houses plots to have him killed and even hires the Dunmer Assassin's Guild, Morag Tong, to do the dirty work. The Dragonborn busts up that conspiracy and the leader of the House gives you 10,000 gold as well as the abode of the House that was trying to have him killed.

And like I said earlier: there is a Thalmor presence on the island which, while underwhelming, is still troubling. They seem to be searching for powerful weapons for combat, but don't seem to be involved in any of the magical secrets that the island holds.

So what does this tell us about the inevitable Thalmor invasion? Well, the Thalmor are definitely trying to bolster their supplies of strong weapons, and they have the capabilities to get to Solstheim, which means getting to Morrowind or Black Marsh is probably a reasonable accomplishment for them.

However, the Dragonborn's actions on Solstheim surly must have impressed the Dunmer, especially the leader of House Redoran, who had his life saved by the Dragonborn after he fought off an entire army of Morag Tong single handedly. On top of that, the Dragonborn is inducted to House Telvanni, tying him in even closer with the Dunmer. Since the Dragonborn is a Skyrim native, could this mean that Skyrim can expect the support of Solstheim and the houses of Redoran and Telvanni?

What's really troubling is how powerful Hermaeus Mora seems to be, and how there seems to be little in his way of interfering with Tamriel. I'm sure he's not the only Daedric Lord looking to burst back onto the scene in Tamriel, so perhaps Barbosa's theory about a second Daedric invasion is plausible.

Overall I strongly recommend getting this DLC, or at least reading up on things when more info comes out. It's really like getting an entire new game and was well worth the $20 I spent.

And yeah, I beat the main quest and a bunch of other stuff within a day. Seems like there's still quite a bit left, though.

I suppose it depends on how big Bethesda can make the next game. We could see an intercontinental/interdimensional conflict with the return of the Daedra and the peoples of Akavir, in particular the Tsaesci.

Don't you hate when you're sick and all of a sudden you feel better and BAM! next day, still super sick. That's what I'm going through. Plus it is 80 degrees in my apartment, not a fan.

As old as it is; is Infamous any good?

I didn't play it, but my roommate did and he seemed to enjoy it. The graphics were very impressive.

I do hate that, especially when you go to bed with a clear nose and lungs and you wake up coughing and sniffling.

This is the best thing ever made. Even if you don't like this, imagine Jim Cornette's reaction to it:

I think that's the first time I've ever heard Sin Cara talk. I also enjoyed how ridiculously deep all their voices were. You'd think a few of the guys sing an alto part.

That was total bullshit. Punk presses the button multiple times to no result, then Super Cena comes it and KOs Punk with one punch and presses the button one time and lights the tree. I'm so tired of Super Cena and his never lose clean, always being pushed to the moon, CM Punk being buried BS. They should have had The Shield wrecking everyone, heel Randy Orton punting that fatass Brodus Clay's head off so he can come back as a monster heel, and then they can just fire Goldback...I mean Ryback.

Am I a cool IWC member now?

Not a fan? You should get one, it would probably cool your apartment off :D

I appear on no ballots whatsoever for the forum awards.

Just the way I like it. Quiet, unassuming mediocrity.

Yes. Yes you are. It's also worth noting that Cena literally buried CM Punk in a mound of snow. The metaphor was not lost on the IWC apparently.

Someone nominated you for best return I think.

...The award I won last year?

Awkward.

I went to my niece's Christmas play tonight. She ran up and gave me a hug and I've got glitter all over me. I swear that shit is like herpes, it never goes away. Next time I step into the sun I'll have a flair up.
