Glass Ass: The OFFICIAL JGlass Thread

Giant turkeys dancing Gagnam Style sounds awesome. I am a big supporter of Gagnam Style's popularity as I find it refreshing that a Korean pop song is the hottest song in America instead of the usual Justin Beiber and friends garbage.

Heard Stray Heart by Green Day for the first time this morning, absolutely loving it. Glad they seem to be past their preachy/ranty stage now as their mellower romantic side is a lot easier to listen to.

I wish football would start already, I kinda bored.

Well, Texans/Lions certainly delivered.

Yeah, ¡Dos! is a very solid album, and Stray Heart may be their best song off of it. I particularly enjoy Amy as well.

Jive turkeys, hope you all had a good Thanksgiving. To all my UK buddies, I hope you had a good day regardless.

Right back atcha buddy. I know I ate enough food for about half of a Stormrage.

This just seems appropriate for today

Det/Hou was a fantastic game, unfortunately I was playing against Stafford in 2 leagues today, & he decided now was a good time to play his best game of the year.

This Jets game is so hilariously bad. I might take to my room and play Age of Empires instead.

Why, what's the score in the game, JGlass? I'm a little concerned about the Patriots' lack of offensive firepower due to the loss of Gronkowski.

sorry, couldn't resist

I'm not watching, but I do have my stat tracker up for fantasy, just checked it & saw it was 35-0 NE with 2 mins to go in the 1st half. Really wish Welker would get a TD already.

I actually watched the Michael Jackson special on ABC instead of the football. Extremely fascinating stuff, and I don't even like Michael Jackson, musically or as a human being. In fact, I find it pretty despicable that we still celebrate a man who was an obvious pedophile, but you can't deny that the guy was talented and interesting.

I think he was a total pedophile but that doesn't take away from his musical ability. I'd argue he was the greatest entertainer of all time. That is just how shit works though. In time we tend to forget that famous/great people had flaws. Hell we live in a country whose Declaration of Independence was written by a man who not only owned slaves, but often had sex with them.

Like a short while ago when Lawrence Taylor was accused of raping that girl, people wanted him kicked out of the HOF. I'm not here to argue if he did or didn't rape her, but he was elected into the HOF for being one of, if not the greatest linebacker of all time, not for being an upstanding citizen. We should celebrate and remember men and women who accomplish great things, but we shouldn't treat them like bronzed Greek gods and forget they had flaws.

Rape and pedophilia are kind of dealbreakers. Sure, both LT and Michael Jackson were phenomenally talented, both of them were among the best at what they did... but that doesn't mean we should continue to idolize them. I suppose it brings up the issue of whether or not you are able to appreciate an artist's work without your opinion of the artist tainting it.

It seems like the Ancient Greeks were acutely aware that their gods had many flaws judging by the stories.

Were they pedophiles?

I don't think they should be idolized either, I just don't think that the joy they get/got out of touching kids takes away from their talent. Currently I am in love with Andrew Luck, the dude is so talented so far its unreal. I badgered Theo to come out of sig retirement to hook me up. If Luck came out tomorrow and said he enjoyed JOing to 12 year kids, I would stop holding him in high regard, but I wouldn't stop saying he was talented.

It seems like most people only get remembered for the good shit, or the bad shit. Like no one ever remembers that Nixon was the guy who opened trade relations to China.

You'd probably be upset when they hauled his ass off to jail for the rest of his career, though.

That's certainly an interesting, and as far as I can tell a legitimate point. JFK was a tremendous womanizer, but you never hear anything but good things about him. Jefferson owned slaves and made them have sex with him, but he's still a national hero. The list could go on and on I'm sure, but I guess in the end the positives outweigh the negatives, no matter how ugly those negatives are.

I can't really look at Michael Jackson as I would if he hadn't been a pedophile, just as I can't look at OJ Simpson as being an excellent football player after what he did (as if anybody even doubts it anymore). I can't deny that they're both talented, but there's a definite blemish on both of their legacies -- OJ moreso than Michael, but that's beside the point. Talent doesn't supersede the lack of character in either case, though.

Not often is a blowout fun to watch. I thank the Jets for being so hilariously bad. They should just roll with the circus team vibe and start intentionally doing ridiculous shit. All they care about is PR anyway, nothing will make them more famous than being a Benny Hill style football team.

Also, I'm pretty sure RGIII is an Android.

I'm playing against RGIII in 2 leagues I'm in and he always manages to bring up a crazy game. He's just fun to watch.

I don't remember which book it was from, it was either "Lie My Teacher's Told Me" or "A People's History of the United States" but one of them had this chapter devoted to why guys like George Washington were built up to godlike status. Most of it was because when America was fighting for independence, it needed a hero. There were no folk heroes or stories of mythical men to tell around the campfire to raise moral. So they built up guys like Washington to be that guy. It is pretty similar to how they treated William Wallace in his day. Plus Washington was a pretty good guy overall and he shares some similarities with Cincinnatus, who was already revered in Roman lore and history. I can't speak for the others like Jefferson. My guess is that it is just another example of how we tend to treat historical figures in America. It is an all or nothing deal, and more often than not we paint our founding fathers in an extremely positive light. Maybe it is because as a country we are fairly young.

OJ did that shit.

I probably am guilty of being over defensive most of the time, but I try to separate an athletes on the field work from his off the field issues. I firmly believe that someone's on field accomplishments should never be tarnished for something they did off the field. Like with LT, the guy is always portrayed as an asshole and a criminal. I wouldn't hang out with him, but if I was starting an all time greats team, he would be one of the first names I called on defense.

I also think that older guys too often get a pass. Ty Cobb was a racist, but rarely is that brought up. Babe Ruth had alcohol problems. Wilt Chamberlain was a womanizer and misogynist. Adolph Rupp was racist. None of that takes away from what they accomplished, it just takes away from them being good people.

That might be the most Jets play ever.
