Genesis: TNA Heavyweight Championship Match

T.N.A. Heavyweight Championship: Sting v. Rhino

It was announced on iMPACT! during the broadcast last week. After picking up a non-title victory before Final Resolution, it turns out Rhino is apparently going to go into Genesis as the Number One contender. Uhm.. what?

So, T.N.A. is starting off it's 2009 Pay per view schedule with Sting defending the Heavyweight title against a guy that up until two monthes ago was barely even wrestling on television?! And when he was, mind you, he was getting his ass handed to him by Bashir. NICE.

Not only am I not sold on this being the final verdict for the match, but if it is, I think T.N.A. has lost their flippin' mind. Rhino, without being able to have hardcore elements, isn't anything other than a very plain and average/under average wrestler.

The only thing I can think of is that T.N.A. is trying as hard as possible to build up Rhino (again) because they're worried Christian truly isn't returning to take the lead-reigns of the "Frontline". So they need to make a new Main Eventer. Well done Rhino.

In the end, this is either going to single-handedly ruin Sting as a World Heavyweight Champion, or possibly help in the downfall of T.N.A. as a whole. Either way, I can't see this match being Pay per view caliber, nor can I see it being worth anything, even through iMPACT! standards.

What are everyone's opinions on this match-up? Please explain yourself and your theories. Thank You.

It's admiral of TNA for trying to push Rhino like he means something. I do believe he was well on his way to being somebody in 2001, shame about the broken neck. 7 years later it's just sad. Not for Rhino, he must be loving it. But for TNA.

If I was going to have a PPV main event with two broken down wrestlers it would be with two that have drawn in their careers. Sting vs. Foley, that would work. It couldn't possibly fail more than this will.

I'm curious how this show will draw. I'm also curious who came up with the concept of Rhino and more so why nobody in TNA has suggested a wrestler called Hippo.

I know that Christian leaving for the WWE is almost a done deal but would it be funny and shocking if Christian would show up at Genesis and either help Rhino win the title or help Sting Retain the championship.

For that to happen, you would have to banned the MEM and the frontline from interfering in the match but even if it's just wishful thinking on my part, it still would be something if that happen.

This is a terrible main event for a pay per view. Rhino vs Sting sounds like a iMPACT main event to me. Sting is still fairly good in the ring considering his age, but Rhino just isn't good at all. I've never been a huge fan of him and I just think his character would be better suit as a heel rather than a babyface. I'm actually expecting this match to be short at about 14 minutes in duration, simply because I know it won't be good and there are much better matches on the card which should get plenty of air time.

I hope Sting retains here. I want this Frontline vs Main Event Mafia rivalry to end with AJ Styles winning the title. If Rhino wins, then all we will be seeing for the upcoming months on pay per view is Rhino vs Angle, Rhino vs Booker T and Rhino vs Kevin Nash (oh God no). So for the good of TNA, let's hope Sting wins this cleanly and beats up Rhino after the match so he will be off our screens for a few weeks. I have no interest in this match whatsoever.

I'm predicting a Sting victory in a fairly short amount of time.
