General Royal Rumble 2008 Discussion

Just been reading a few posts on this board and it got me thinking. Who would your bet be on to win the Rumble?

Personally, I see a guy like Matt Hardy or Umaga winning it, its been a thing for a while now (apart from Taker last year), to put an untried superstar up for the gold(Benoit winning it at WM still sends shivers when I see that match)

Umaga has the monster attitude, he just keeps getting squahed by Triple H at every oppourtunity :(

Matt has been in the WWE for years, an Edge / Hardy fued would be good for both guys

What do you guys think?

I have been pretty disapointed with the results of the Rumble for years now, I'd like to see a younger guy, or a mid-carder who could use it as a stepping stone win it, i'd like to see either of the Hardy's, Kennedy, MVP or even John Morrison win it.

Personally, I think Jericho winning the royal rumble would be amazing. But maybe unlikely. Edge could also win, considering that it would get him back into the World title picture. But if things go the way they usually go, it will be a smackdown! guy.

I too am getting the idea that Jericho will win the Rumble and advance to WrestleMania. Triple H did it back when he made his big return in 2002 and so did Austin when he made his return back in late 2000. It would either be Jericho or Kennedy. One way or another, I'm sure both will be involved in a World title match at WrestleMania. Possibly Jericho vs Kennedy with Jericho passing the torch would be awesome.

i think it will definitely be a raw superstar this year. i mean come on it would only be fair, batista is the only raw guy to win the rumble since the brand seperation. even though chris benoit went to raw the night after he won the rumble, he was still representing smackdown that night.

so my picks are either

chris jericho
mr kennedy
lashley

or possibaly mvp or cm punk
i picked cm punk coz i think he'l drop the title to kane at some point

In my personal opinion I think it's going to be one of three guys.

Mr. Kennedy
Chris Jericho
HHH

Kennedy could really use it, as he's just been drifting around RAW lately with no real purpose. He's got the charisma, the talent, the mic skills etc to make it big and this could be his chance.

With Jericho returning it would make sense, as others have said they did it with HHH and Austin when they both returned, so Jericho makes sense, though I think Jericho may take the title from Orton at the Rumble.

And lastly, I say HHH because I have an idea of where WWE is going right now and even though it doesn't look like it now, I think they are building to Orton/HHH at Wrestlemania, unless they have Jericho take the title off Orton (which I could see happening also) and have HHH/Jericho at Mania.

This year actually has a lot of possibilities as to who could win, moreso than the last few years I believe. I think we'll see storylines starting to shift around the Rumble and it will make it one of the better ones in recent memory.

I think that Jericho might actually do it. Like others mentioned the whole HHH/Austin thing in the past. He's also the freshest face in the biz right now so i think WWE will put a vote of confidence in his big draw potential.

Who will win the Rumble this year?

My guess would be either Y2J or HHH and I wouldn't mind either of them winning it. They would both be good in he main event of wrestlemania and can put on a damn good show.

Now i would like to see either MVP, Matt Hardy, Or Edge win it. Just because i think it would finally give one of these guys the rub they need to legitimize themselves. Edge not so much but it would add to his impressive list of accomplishments.

Now there could be a wild card here. I know its a long shot but....With all the talk of Ric Flair getting one final run could he possibly win the Rumble this year.

Just remember that anything is possible in the WWE.

Santino Marella???? maybe would be cool. Anyways I would like to see a up-in-coming star or a midcarder win it. I dont see it happening since they would want a big name to headline Mania. MVP, Mr. Kennedy, Jeff Hardy, or John Morrison would be great choices and repel them to main event status. I have a feeling it will be some already over star....possibly HHH, Jericho, Taker or Edge???

Alot of very credible contenders this year:

- Edge (May set the stall out for Edge Vs Taker at Mania)
- MVP (Would be a slightly odd move to loose the US belt and then win the Rumble , but would be good for him)
- Jeff Hardy (Wouldn't be surprised to see his push move to the next level)
- Umaga
- CM Punk (Probably a little early for him)
- Lashley (A WM main event isn't far off)
- Kennedy (If he hadn't have had the problems with the tests could well be in a push right now , but I doubt they've forgotten him)
- Matt Hardy (Needs a little more time for me)
- HHH (A bit of a obvious way to get to the main event , but again very plausible)

So I just posted a thread about this, when I searched this one didn't come up.. Mr. Kennedy, never won a rumble.... I could see him entering in the late 20's and taking the whole thing.. Maybe screwing over HBK in the process.

or, I've always had this idea for a rumble ending.. having the ring nearly full somewhere when the mid 20's entrants start to make their way in. Then have someone like the Undertaker eliminating tons of superstars until you get to about 29.. then, two men left ['taker and Edge?] before #30 [Kennedy] comes out, could be the Undertaker and Edge eliminate eachother leaving Kennedy to walk out and be declared the winner.

Runner up- Jericho.. I went against Jericho because I think he'll still be chasing after Orton's title as one of the main events at the Rumble.

Thoughts?

My pick for the winner of the Rumble is the man in the picture...Triple H. Lets face it we all know he enjoys to pick up the W. Rumors have been around for awhile now of a HHH vs. Orton WrestleMania Main Event. Plus right now i think he is just kind of fluttering around not really invovled in much, the UmaNga thing has played itself out in my eyes. I think at Armaggedon he and Jeff Hardy have a tag match against Snitsky and Umanga. After that the next night on raw he is the first guy to declare himself to be in the Rumble.

Long Term:
I see HHH vs. Orton at Mania with HHH winning.
Setting up a HHH vs. Jericho program which see's HHH turn heel on Raw and once again become the true Cerebral Assassin against Jericho to set up a good feud that may get them close the summer.

Yo Im Thinkin Either Of These Guys

Jericho-Hes Just Returned, Everyone Loves Him, Hes Got Crazy Mike Skills, Hes A Great Technichal Wrestler, And Did I Mention Everyone Loves Him?

Orton-Now I Can See This Because If Y2J Gets The Title Shot(s) Then WWE Will Probably Do An Angle Where He Tries To Stop Y2J From Getting A Wrestlemania Title Shot By Winning The Rumble And Then Y2J Can't Get A Mania Shot. But Never Mind Him Winning I Think He'll Try To Do This And What Happend At Last Years Rumble Will Happen With Orton And Jericho.

Shane McMahon- I Reeeeeeeeealy Think They Might Try To Push Shane O Mac Again (as good as it worked out last time) *laughs* But Maybe Not.

Kane-They've Been Trying To Push Him Alot And The Rumble Is The Perfect Opertunity To Do It. He Gets A Shot At Whatever Title He Wants (prob e c dub) At Mania.

Jeff/Matt Hardy-A Huge Upset For A Could Be Main Eventer. If It's Jeff Hed Prob Be On The Top, Then Get Pushed Off Land On The Apron And One Big Back Body Drop Later Jeff Is In The Main Event At The Main Attraction.

Ken Kennedy......... Kennedy-Just To Make Up For The Ass Rotten Way Of Him Winning Money In The Bank And He Gets A WHC Shot At Mania And He Suggests Edge Is In It Too For A Triple Threat Match To Get Revenge For Losing Money In The Bank.

It all depends on who the WWE and World Heavyweight champs are. If Orton is still the champ, and Undertaker has it by then, then chances are they'll have a face win to challenge Orton. If a face has beaten Orton, then a heel will win, but lose the match at WM.

Some options, and explanations, in no particular order:

1. MVP - Has a shot, but a very small shot. Instead, I see him winning the Money in the Bank. That's far more likely in my opinion, but he's got a shot.

2. Mr. Kennedy - The only way this will happen is if a face is the champ at the time (no matter who it is: Jericho, HHH, HBK, or Hardy). Kennedy will most likely lose at Wrestlemania, but win afterwards at some point. He's been in line for a push and this would do it, but even if he loses the Rumble, he'll be in the final few.

3. Edge - To set up Undertaker/Edge at Wrestlemania.

4. Jeff Hardy - Definitely has the possibility. They're gearing him up for something, without a doubt. Plus, this fits, as they could have Orton still the champ, but lose to Hardy at Wrestlemania.

5. HBK - The WWE doesn't forget who got what reactions in their Royal Rumbles. Last year, the crowd went APESHIT when it was down to the Undertaker and HBK, so they could possibly have him win the rumble and take the belt from Orton at WM. The biggest knot in this chain, though, is Shawn's work schedule. He's been taking a more lax approach, so I don't know if we'll ever see him as champ again.

6. HHH - Not very likely, unless Orton is still champ and they don't want to push Hardy or Jericho. Still, he has a shot of being the one to take the belt off Orton.

7. Jericho - While I don't think...like most people, it seems...that Jericho will be the main event guy for the next year straight, there's a possibility that he'll win the Rumble. More than likely, though, I could see him taking the title from Orton at the Rumble, Kennedy winning, and having Kennedy/Jericho at Wrestlemania, if Jericho is involved in it at all. Its too early to see where they're going.

People that, in my opinion, have no shot at winning...aside from the most obvious things like Super Crazy or Mike Knox...

1. Matt Hardy - If they're being so hesitant to give him the United States title, they won't push him to the main event status that quickly. By next year's rumble, its a possibility, but 08 isn't going to be his chance. Great talent, a little tweaky on the mic, but he'll find his place after a US title reign.

2. Kane - Alas, the guy's a great performer, but he's gotten stale over the years. He was once the most dominant Royal Rumble competitor pretty much ever, but that is no longer the case. I could DEFINITELY see him being ECW champ by Wrestlemania, but not by winning the Rumble and getting a shot at it that way.

3. Umaga - Heels don't normally win the Royal Rumble, especially if they're someone like Umaga. The only time I can think of this happening is when Yokozuna won back in 93, I think. He's got a spot in the main event, but he isn't the type of guy that wins the rumble.

4. Khali &/or Big Daddy V - No shot whatsoever. I hope nobody even suggests them. They will be the big guys to toss out at best.

5. CM Punk - The only way I can see this happening...literally...the ONLY way...is if Edge is currently the champ on Smackdown, Punk challenges him to help shift him over to the Smackdown roster, but he loses at Wrestlemania. Punk's got a bright future but he's not in the right position to dominate the rumble and win a belt at Wrestlemania.

6. Lashley - His lack of mic skills puts a damper on his push. Lashley should, and hopefully will, be in the Intercontinental scene around this time and not the main event. I could see him competing in the Money in the Bank match, too, but not winning it over MVP.

For me there's lots of great wrestlers who deserve it but if my predicitions for wrestlemania are right it'll either be:
Edge/ Undertaker- It'll be one of them champion, whilst the other wins or comes close to winning the rumble. Probs Edge beats Batista at Rumble and screws Taker in the Royal Rumble itself.
Kennedy- I reckon he's gunna be in the main event this year and this would be a great way to give him a great push and be in the match.
Jericho- Well he's obv going to fight Orton over the next months, if he loses he may win the Rumble and be in the wwe title picture too- doubt it.
Triple H- Same as above tbh, he's gotta be in main event aswell, and would be great way to do it.
HBK- Once again, title picture- would be great if he won after coming so close last year.

i'l make my prediction. Edge'll win his 1st rumble, eliminating flair last, setting up Undertaker vs Edge WM, and flair'll get a shot against orton (to add flair to his list), maybe with jericho (just a guess) or HHH (Evolution showdown) in the match somehow.

I believe Bobby Lashley would be the best choice. There is always the possibility that WWE might not make Edge/Taker at Mania for the World Title. If that is the case I say Lashley wins the Rumble, and then challenges Batista for the Title at Mania. That would be a good matchup, imo.

Another possiblity would be for JBL to win the rumble. If he is making a return to the ring, what better way to get him back into the main event scene. If Batista is champ(which is a possibility, see above), JBL could be a surprise entrant in the rumble say at #29, or #30. He could win it and face Batista at Mania.

I'm gonna say Chris Jericho. It makes perfect sense for him to win it this year, with the ongoing chase to take the WWE Championship from Randy Orton, which is most likely what will happen. If it doesn't go to Jericho, I expect Mr. Kennedy or Jeff Hardy to win it instead.

I got my money on Jericho if he doesn't already win the title before the Rumble, if not him then I hope kane will win he needs a push before people star asking "The Big Red What".

But on the Jericho side of things seeing RAW this past Week when Jericho came out I jumped off my seat in excitement finally RAW IS JERICHO AGAIN! to see the fans do the same on TV made me think is that the 2008 royal rumble winner? maybe it is jericho already has a well established carrear but he has never won a Royal Rumble match.

Maybe a mid-carder superstar should win it like Benjamen or Matt Hardy as much as I hate matt hardy it wouldnt be bad to see him win a Rumble it might make like him, As for benjiman I went to the RAW Survivor Series Tour and Benjimen put on the best match it was great I would love to see benjiman win it would be fantastic

But who I'd really like to see win it is Ken Kennedy he has been trying to get the right push but never seems to get it so maybe winning the rumble might just be his chance to SHINE!

The way I see it, the winner will be Mr.Kennedy, because smackdown! has one it for 2 yrs. Hes been kinda drifting around raw for a bit and the WWE will probably give him the push because he does have the potential.
I dont think any1 big will win it this year, because the WWE has been sitting on the same people for a while now(batista, undertaker, HHH, ect.). They need a new, but well known guy to win it. If he dosent win, I would think some other heel would win it.

Oh yeah, i forgot to add since Edge and Jericho both made their returns at almost the same time, one of them will win it ( they might even be the last 2 in the ring)

^You could have went back and edited your post

I think that 1 of 5 people will win
1. Chris Jericho
Jericho could win if he doesnt have the title by then. Maybe be entrant #1 and be the 3rd canadian(and any other) wrestler to ever do it(2nd wrestler who has never killed his family)
2.HHH
HHH obviously to set up for the Wrestlemania match agaist either Orton (if HHH is still face) or Jericho (if HHH turns heel)
3. Jeff Hardy
I've read the HHH is really starting to respect him. I think it would be great maybe the last two people being him and his brother? But this would only be able to happen if the champion was heel
4. Ric Flair
Flair is rumored to have one last run so it would be a perfect way to do it. This would only work so ever if the champion on Raw or Smackdown is heel because Flairs last run isnt gonna be as a heel
5. Matt Hardy
I would say he would win to get him self propelled to the mainevent status. He would lose the match that night against MVP for the US title. He then beats Edge at wrestlemania

I like the idea of having Edge and Jericho as the last two.. if it came down to them, I wouldn't care who would win at that point.

Edge would be a good choice. However the only problem with him and Jericho would be that it's too obvious. Whomever wins the rumble, I wish it would be a surprise, like 2006 when Rey won it. I know there was talk of Rey winning it before the ppv, but you know Vince when it comes to pushing guys like Mysterio. So for me having him win it in '06 was quite the surprise.

What would be an interesting conclusion(one that many might hate) would be to have the Rumble match(which would be the main event) end in controversy. When it comes down to the last six have the ring collapse after a few minutes of them doing big bumps. Have the announcers play it off as this wasn't supposed to happen. Have everyone involved play it off as such. And to make it seem even more real, have the PPV end at around 10:30pm. That way it makes the viewers think there was too be more to the match.

Then on Raw the next night, you start off with Vince addressing the controversial end to the Royal Rumble PPV. He says he has the perfect solution too the problem. At No Way Out, all six of the participants remaining in the Rumble match will have an opportunity to win the Royal Rumble- WrestleMania Title Shot. The match in which it will be decided will be, The Elimination Chamber! He then goes on to say that over the course of the next few weeks on Raw, ECW, and Smackdown we will have beat the clock matches, and the one with the quickest time will earn the right to enter the chamber last.

And as an added bonus, No Way Out will play hold to the Second ever Champion of Champions match. WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. ECW Champion CM Punk. The winner not only will have bragging rights over his opponents but will be exempt from the selection process of the winner of the elimination chamber match. Meaning if Orton won, the winner of the elimination chamber could only choose from Punk and Edge. The rationale would be that winning an Elimination match that close to Mania, would give the winner momentum. And Vince, being the generous kind of guy whats to give one of the champs a pardon. So to speak.

To me if WWE did this scenario, it would add some much needed spice to the road to Wrestlemania.

Everone is always optamistic about who will win the royal rumble, what your all forgeting is wwe is very predictable on this bases i will say tripleh will win the rumble.
