Snatched up Chibi Robo Zip Lash w/ amiibo today at Walmart. There were only 2 in stock, and it was the only store that had it within 100 miles.
Mostly bought it because of my Amiibo collecting problem, but also because I dug the GC Chibi Robo game and hope this is just as entertaining.

Does anybody have a preliminary game of the year list? I contribute to NeoGAF's mega-list every year. Preliminary because they release all the big stuff in November and I'm still playing through half of what I want to get through before the new year brings Mass Effect, Horizon Zero Dawn and whatever they're putting on the Switch. Mine right now looks like:

1. DOOM

Having grown up in a post-DOOM world, DOOM 2016 helped me understand the impact of the original DOOM, or at least what it would have been like to be playing that game in 1993. Graphics might age, tastes might change, but good game design never goes out of fashion. To think, with the tepid reaction to the multiplayer beta, with how cagey Bethesda were behaving prior to release, many would have predicted this to be a Duke Nukem Forever-esque disaster. Instead it's the benchmark for all shooters going forward.

2. Hitman

Looking back at season one, there's not really a series better suited to the episodic format. One large level, thousands of points of interaction, countless ways to carry out a murder or two. A few moments of frantic improvisation can have the same results as hours of careful planning but a successful hit is hugely satisfying regardless.

3. Inside

In the year in which Doom released, few would quibble that Inside is the most visceral game of 2016. The game has the power that few do to provoke a reaction from the player - although, admittedly, they're largely of horror, disgust and depression.

4. The Last Guardian

An astounding technical achievement that is technically unsound. A masterpiece of a game that can be an absolute battle to play. There aren't many games that simultaneously manage to be so beautiful but so ugly. There is nothing like, nor has there ever been anything like, Trico in any other game.

5. Pokemon Sun (& Moon)

Yep. It's Pokemon alright. The most friction-free Pokemon there is. Don't let the door hit you on the way out, HMs.

6. Titanfall 2

The hyperbolic reaction to Titanfall 2 wasn't as easy to understand as one would have hoped. Between the multiplayer and the single player campaign, you have what amounts to the best Call of Duty game in years; an excellent game but not a gaming masterpiece.

7. Ratchet & Clank

Nostalgic feelings were curtailed somewhat by clumsy movie inserts and a surprising level of difficulty but it's still a Ratchet & Clank game, damn it.

8. FIFA 17

On the list primarily due to hours put in, not necessarily for astounding quality.

9. Gears of War 4

Yep. It's Gears of War alright.

10. Overwatch

Not my cup of tea but I can admire the achievement.

Somehow or another I was not made aware of there being Eevium Z or Aloraichium Z items in Sun and Moon... I assumed I had all the Z crystals already. Took the time to obtain them earlier, only to find out about Mewnium Z and Marshadium Z that have yet to be made available.

Overwatch, Titanfall 2, and Destiny have been the highlights of my gaming for 2016. These games kept me busy despite the little playing time I actually had. There's just something about playing with buddies and getting whatever these games throw at us done.

It was a good year for games, though I found myself not playing too many new ones. It was a year of surprises.

1. Stardew Valley

I adore Harvest Moon. I must have 100 hours each on the SNES, N64 and GBA versions.

Stardew Valley was a game that somehow slipped my radar until it was released. I was a bit hesitant at first, but once I jumped in... Well 300 hours later I'm still playing.

Stardew Valley takes the Harvest Moon formula and does EVERYTHING better. The town is more interesting, the farming feels better, they have even added combat that works surprisingly well.

When I play Stardew, I feel at home. I loved learning about every little aspect of the game, and 300 hours later, I still have many more things I need to do.

Also the first game that my girlfriend really loved. In fact I think she has more hours in it then I do. Playing Stardew Valley alongside my partner, glass of wine and none of the stress of life. That is a distinction no other game will have. Stardew Valley is special.

2. Doom

Did anyone expect this game to be any good? Absolutely stunning Single Player that evokes the feeling of the original that seemed so impossible to replicate. Everything (bar multiplayer) is on point here and I suspect this is a game I will be returning to yearly, much like the original.

3. The Witness

I find my attention span for games has lessened over the years. Often I would rather play a Rocket League over a Skyrim. That said, the world of The Witness captivated my attention unlike anything else in a long time. A puzzle game at surface level, there is so much to talk about here that I wouldn't dare spoil.

4. Sid Meiers Civilization VI

I love Civ. I need to play this one more. I love Civ.

5. EA UFC 2

I have over 200 matches online. I don't know why, people are assholes online and this game turns me into an asshole. I have taken great pleasure in winning with dirty tactics and at the same time have never really had a game make me so angry.

I guess it has to go onto the list because I keep coming back to it. I feel like a Dota player.

6. Overcooked

Absolutely amazing game to play with family and friends who don't necessarily play games. Having a kitchen plan, only to have it collapse in anarchy within 30 seconds is hilarious. A great party game, and we need more great party games.

7. Devil Daggers

For the weekend it took over my computer, unable to play anything else. Determined to get over 120 seconds, failing again and again, always restarting.

8. Hitman

The best Hitman of all time, to the surprise of everyone. It captures the feeling of the best Hitman levels and steps up on it. Creating an often hilarious assassination gone wrong. I can't say how many times I went in with the intention to play a perfect game, only to end up throwing a fire extinguisher at someones head, or blow up a stage, just to see what happens.

So many games I need to play, I've barely touched Overwatch and haven't even looked at Titanfall 2 yet.

Pokemon S&M is the most stop start pokemon game ever. I do not like it at all.

I played a lot of games this year, though I think I only finished two, Uncharted 4 & Titanfall 2. Witcher 3, Madden 2K17, Arkham Knight, & Twilight Princess HD all took hours from my life as well. I recently got WWE2K17, Windwaker HD, & the Skyrim Special Edition that was recently released, those along with me dropping back in & out of Madden, Titanfall 2 muliplayer & Witcher 3 should keep me busy for awhile.

Played Intellivision for over an hour today. This pre Atari system brings back memories with every game I owned for it. The crappy, funny sound effects really jar some memories playing these games. Especially Night Stalker. The only thing different about the system is that there's 60 games loaded on it, the hook ups and plugs are all the same. Even having to use AV plugs for the back of the T.V.

The games I'm playing at the moment are This Is The Police (police chief simulator, with a deep storyline that involves you getting forced into the criminal underworld), Dota 2 (my competitive outlet after Overwatch faded from my interest), Half Life 2 (replaying it to see how great it was), and GTA V (still not had a chance to complete it yet).

GameStop made an oopsy by accidentally tweeting out about Pokemon Stars for the Switch... According to the leak, the protagonist has just moved to Alola from the Sinnoh region and the game takes place 1 year after the events of Sun and Moon.
The leak also suggested that Stars will be in the launch lineup... And while Pokemon is a great game to launch a console with, I find it odd that they would put out the sequel to Sun and Moon just 4 months after the pair's release. I'll be taking it with a grain of salt.

Oh yeah undoubtedly. The thing that raises an eyebrow is how soon it releases, assuming the speculation that it launches with the Switch is true; can definitely see it releasing later this year around the same time Sun and Moon launched last year though.
As if I wouldn't get it either way, ha.

People forget Yellow was 2 years after Red/Greens Japanese release.

If I'm not mistaken, hasn't been 2 years for most of them? Emerald I know for a fact was 2 years, Crystal I think was also... Platinum was 3. Black 2 and White 2 were just one year, but the story took place 2 years after the first pair.

I said I'd get it if it was £250 and had Mario and Zelda at launch. It's £280 and has Zelda, which I can also play on Wii U.

Hard pass.

Definitely not a day one buy for me. But I'm still interested in it. Some of the games they announced look pretty good. Plus, I want to see how good their online servers will be.

Mario and Zelda is all I want they showed. I'll pick up Skyrim and DQ heroes but yeah I'd rather get a PS4 first.

This is apparently how the UI looks like. Hmm...
