People don't realise the amount that modern FPSes owe to Halo: Combat Evolved. There's a reason it has that subtitle.

For a few exceptions most modern FPS' don't do it as well.

I think I've talked about this before, but the Crysis series, especially the second game is pretty underrated. The graphics are stunning in all three games, and the story line is intricate and enjoyable, whilst still being gritty and tense at the same time (unlike a lot of other miltary-esque FPS games). They're no masterpieces or anything, but they certainly need a lot more attention.

The multiplayer in Crysis 2 is mostly miss, but they improve on it lot in 3.

When Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation says it's pretty decent it must be doing something right. I'll check 2 and 3 out on 360. Is 1 out on consoles or is it still a PC exclusive??

I think 1 is available to download on Xbox Live, although it may still possess a lot of bugs that plagued the original PC release.

Crysis is wrongly pegged as 'just' a graphical showcase, when in fact it's a very good sandbox FPS as well. The second was rather decent too, though I never found the motivation to finish it. Can't speak at all on the third.

Donkey Kong games, good as they are, feel kind of bullshit sometimes - impossible to do a level first time without psychic powers.

New Civilization game, not Civ 6, but Civilization: Beyond Earth (or as I'm calling it, Sid Miers' Alpha Centari 2). Nice trailer imo.

Playing through FF9 and I missed the god damned Mayor's key. Only one chance in the game to grab it and I forgot. Major buzz kill.
