Watching EVO and realized that in a 1v1 SSB Melee is extremely cheap in and unsatisfactory in a tournament setting.

It's horrible, absolutely horrible. My friends and I had an idea to improve competitive Melee by:

1. Not taking it seriously and recognizing its place as a cooldown game.

2. Doing it Iron Chef-style. Get a guy to serve as a "chairman" and he picks one item using random number generator that is allowed on the field. "Today's secret ingredient is...Bob-Ombs!", that kind of thing. Then, make the stage select truly random so that any level could come up in the roulette.

There, instantly Melee would be frantic and chaotic and fun to watch as people try to adapt their stupid glitch strategies to a random element and new playing field.

It was almost funny how right after the amazing King of Fighters final, Melee killed the crowd's hype as well as my own. I was watching KOF with my friends and when Reynald made those comebacks we were freaking out. I'm not usually into competitive fighting games but it was incredibly exciting stuff. And then Melee just killed it dead for me.

Yeah after all these years of people bitching and moaning Nintendo that SSB has never been at EVO when they finally have it they play in the worst form possible.

The fights were so one sided and uninteresting with basically the first person who hits the other off the stage basically waiting in the middle for the other to just keep walking into hits until the match was over. It would have been much better if they went with what you were thinking of plus not having it just be 1v1. It was undeniably the worst part of EVO with Injustice being a close second for me.

KOF was fucking awesome though, in ways it rivaled UMVC3 hype. It was really fun to watch.

I didn't really watch it, but wasn't it 2 player?

The best solution is just make it a 4 player tournament. 4 player Smash Bros >>>>>>>>>> 2 player Smash Bros.

Man just haven't seen anything that I want to get from the Steam Summer Sale. Kind of disappointing, I either have no interest in the games up for grabs or I already have them.

Speaking of Steam, been thinking about making a WZ group on there. Anyone interested?

A Mario Sunshine reference in Animal Crossing.

It sucks but I can't blame them. If they keep making them then they will end up getting schooled even worse in the lawsuit.

They could still do college football though, just get the individual conferences/schools.

Basically what that means is they can get all the schools/conferences, and just lose things like BCS (or College Football Playoff) and maybe various rankings.

NCAA Football 15 may never happen, but College Football 15 could. Maybe they'll get a famous coach to put his name on it. It's been done before.

It legitimately seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face, especially when you think of the the millions they earn doing this

Just finished up cleaning and organizing my office today, and I ended up finding my Gamecube and all the cables for it.

Only problem is, I can't find my controllers for it to save my life. I might have to hit up ebay or Amazon for some cheap ones.

Another thing I found is that I have quite a PSP game collection. Some very nice RPGs in the collection, yet I don't ever remember playing most of them.

The PSP had an excellent library and is really a fantastic system through and through. Hacking it a few months ago was the best decision i've made recently. Being able to play Mega Man Legends 2 on the go is amazing, not to mention some of the fucking brilliant games like Persona 3, Gitaroo Man Lives, Dangan Ronpa, etc.

Fighting games don't really need a complex story to be good but that's fucking garbage. Cutscenes are uploaded on the internet before the games themselves are even released, there is no way to stop this and taking them completely out isn't the answer.

Why does this matter?

Legend of Zelda: Link To The Past didn't have any cutscenes and is widely considered the greatest game of all time.

I'd rather they spend more time perfecting the game then putting in cutscenes which just take up disc space.

I just find it a step backwards because Adventure mode in Melee and Subspace Emissary in Brawl were both ace.

LTTP and the upcoming Smash Bros are 2 very different games. Screams rushed game to me. Also:

The game doesn't come out until 2014. And I would assume holiday 2014. It's been announced for over a year now. How the hell is that a rush job? If anything it's the exact opposite of a rush job.

Oh, and Street Fighter 2 didn't have cutscenes. Nor did Mortal Kombat, and those are the exact same type of game (fighting game). Mario Party didn't need cutscenes and it's a similar type of game (multiplayer party game).

If you're playing a fighting game to watch cutscenes and stories, you're playing the game for the wrong reason. That's like playing a sports game because you like the background music.

I should have said among the greatest of all time. My apologies. Either way, no cutscenes, and still among the greatest games of all time. And Super Mario Bros is considered the best as well and has zero cutscenes.

The latest MK is acclaimed for it's story mode cutscenes.

When the games you stated came out it was a time period in which cinematic cutscenes weren't the normal. Just because it was like that then doesn't mean it should regress back to that now.

And yet having all the cutscenes is the sole reason I never played Uncharted 1 (and eventually Uncharted 3). I watched the cutscenes on Youtube and skipped the game because I know what happens.

It's also why I never beat MK. I stopped at Shao Kahn because I couldn't grew frustrated trying to beat him. Why did I stop trying? because I watched the cutscene on Youtube and had no need to beat him.

Oh, and the Cutscenes were just there to hold together a laughable story that was really just a re-write of the original stories, which (get this) didn't have cutscenes. Don't get me wrong they were decent, but they were not at all helpful to the game itself.

I'd rather play a game where the GAMEPLAY is the primary focus, instead of cutscenes and graphics. Hence why I bought a Wii, and why I'll buy a Wii U. Good gameplay >>>>>> top notch graphics.

Agree with you that gameplay is more important than graphics. But cut-scenes are a necessary thing for games these days, it's become a story-telling medium. Which has been the best part of games in the last few generations. The death of Aerith or the unmasking of Revan (SPOILERS) could only be done in games and they're two incredible moments, even though I'm not a Final Fantasy fan. Don't use MK as an example, those guys couldn't write their way out of a paper back.

Y'know, there are games out there that tell great stories via cutscenes while still having great gameplay. It's not an either/or situation.

As for Nintendo, that's a dumb move. If they're worried about the story being ruined, people only see those clips when they specifically look for them. If they're worried about money, Smash Bros. doesn't sell for it's story mode. I may consider just getting the game second hand, cause I was really looking forward to the story mode, and I don't want to pay full price without it.
