I don't think Nitendo will jump to next gen this year, or even next.

As Sam pointed out, the Wii is still selling, and although it's not as hot as it was, it still brings in money.

Also, I can see them riding the 3DS for a while before it announces "Wii 2"

Sony was the last of the current generation of gaming to join the party.

I hope the next generation is several years away. I don't see the need yet.

Sont denies alot of shit (PSP, PS Phone etc.) shortly before they reveal it.

Bought Mass Effect 2 today. So far, so good. Giant Bomb - whose podcast I recently discovered - awarded it game of the year and it was £15 in Gamestation. Little did I know it was £11.50 on Amazon. Aw, pish!

The console debate for the next generation is an intriguing one.

I recall reading something or listening to something by the head of Microsoft European division for gaming )or whatever) and he said that there was simply no need for a new console right now and it all comes down to money. The 360 and PS3 are still selling and with the deductions finally falling off of the price of the console making it affordable for almost everyone, there is no point in upgrading again.

The fact of the matter is that both Microsoft and Sony can update their consoles using software. Microsoft did it when they completely updated their dashboard and avatars. Sony could do the exact same thing by having people download the updates. Plus, no one has the extra money to be buying a new console right now. all of the top selling consoles are doing better than ever because games are cheap and everything else is sky rocketing.

At the end of the day, all of the manufacturers are waiting on each other to make a move. No one wants to be seen as the company that is trying to get blood form a stone. Once Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo decide to create a new console, the others will follow. Sony can say whatever they want about not bringing out another console but I don't believe it. They wont want to be left behind if Microsoft create a new console that would outshine the current offerings.

Sony, in particular, will drag it out as long as it can. The longer this gen goes on, the closer the PS3 gets away from the unadulterated financial disaster it was for the initial years after launch. Christ, those ad campaigns. What the fuck?
