Funniest way you got into a musician

Alex

King Of The Wasteland
You get into musicians by various means, you hear them being played by family or friends, you hear them on the radio, the music is being played on a tv show or film, but then there are strange ways of getting into musicians, so what's yours.

How I became a fan of Jimi Hendrix has got to be one of the funniest. I began watching wrestling again after my parents got the cable back and one of the matches was Hulk Hogan was facing somebody and Hogan came out to this.

By god I was hooked on this song, I then found it was by Jimi Hendrix and began listening to some of his other songs and became hooked, thanks to Hogan I have become a Hendrix fan :p

I used to listen to Simple Plsn i was at the store and bought it before i even of them suprisingly i liked them for like 3 years i think then i saw a thread here where a post said they are whining alot in their songs so i listened to it again and only non whiny song they have is When im gone( i think so at least )

I basically got into Motorhead thanks to Triple H! Similar to you and Hogan, I LOVED the entrance music Lemmy and the boys did for Triple H. I had already heard "Ace of Spades" obviously, but I much preferred Triple H's music, and then downloaded loads of Motorheads stuff, and now they are one of my favourite bands. Also the music they did for Evolution and Triple H's "King Of Kings" are awesome too

I actually got into metalcore from CM Punk's theme song, similar to what happened to you guys. I now listen to mostly metalcore because of that. Punk's theme is This Fire Burns by KSE by the way.

Another group of musicians I got into by strange means was Alice In Chains.

CH David made a thread comparing Alice In Chains Unplugged gig to Nirvana's Unplugged gig, I checked it out because back then (as I am still now) a big Nirvana fan. So I end up listening to Alice In Chains Unplugged performance of Would?

And really liked it, I decided to check out the Plugged? version and was blown away

Layne Staley's voice alone made me interested in this band not to mention Jerry Cantrell's guitar, Sean Kinney's drumming and to a lesser extent Mike Starr's bass. So I checked out more Alice In Chains and have become an avid fan. :)

Well. I don't know if this is considered odd. But here's the story. I was 3 when I saw the first and ONLY important Transformers movie. (Im 27) I saw this movie in 1986 when it first came out. It was the begining of my love for synth rock music, and rock music in general, as well as my love for instrumental music. Vince Dicola made some of the coolest music, and it stuck with me to this day.

I used to work in one of those coffee shops inside one of those books stores, and if you think I ever heard anything worth listening to in there you'd be dead wrong. Coffee shops and book stores play the most god awful music, and don't know who in there right minds listen to some of the hipster garbage. Back on point, while working at this coffee shop I met a friend who shared a similar interest when it came to foliage appreciation, if you catch my drift.

So one night, I'm making what you might call an after hours purchase after a long night of closing, so I make my way into his moms old mini van, he's got a variety of pre-rolled goodies at his disposal, and want's to know if I'm down to drive around, smoke some blunts and listen to some Benga!?(first off, why are drug dealers always looking to hang out?)"What the fuck is Benga" was my only response to that, he then asked if knew about Dubstep. Again I was clueless, though an hour later, a couple blunts and more than a few bowls I was well versed in Dubstep, and from that moment on I've been an absolute fiend when it comes to Dubstep.

Now here's some of the music I was listening to on that faithful night. Off the CD Diary of an Afro Warrior, I proudly present Benga.

Those five tracks should do the trick. :rasta:

While in school last year, I was on the news team and everyday we just joke around about what music we should put on the intro video and ending credits. Hell I would say we talked about that more than about what would go into the actual video. Anyway, one day the staff editor comes up to me and put some headphones in my ears while I'm reciting my lines to say on the broadcast and he says this exact line, "Dude you need to listen to this b/c this is what is going into the show this week no questions asked." And this is what he played:

Ever since then, I have been a huge fan of Breaking Benjamin and probably either listening to I Will Not Bow or Dance With The Devil when I'm working out everday to one of their songs.
