We need the next Reagan to step up, or something. As much as I love Obama, he is no where near Reagan or even JFK. We just need someone to step up and fully capture us, not just for an election.

Then convince them in speeches/debates.

The concept of Congress is to represent the people right? (No that isn't realistic but it's the theory right?) So if a majority of representatives think something, then in theory that is the will of the majority of the people right? If the majority of the people think something, then why should the minority be able to bring things to a halt? If the people disagree, they can change things at the polls.

There's something to be said about "the voice of the minority being squashed by the foot of the majority," but I'm sure I just made that quote up. The laws of Congress were made to avoid a majority forcing their views on the minority.

The only problem is that now no one can get any work done. Lame. Founding Fathers took a shit on that one.

And I still argue for Civil Unions to be federally recognized for all, and marriage to be relegated as a symbolic gesture committed by the churches and other religious structures of our nation.

This is weird, but it's going to wind up as a role reversal. You have to prevent the tyranny of the majority. If one party wins on a platform, and then forces legislation counterproductive to that platform, and all that....

Then the roles can be reversed and repealed in two/four years.

The problem is that the parties now are SO scared that another party is going to accomplish anything that they make sure to defeat it before it starts. If nothing is ever given a chance, how can you know that it will succeed or fail?

America is not in any condition to take a shot at anything. Meritorious legislation passes pretty easily. Speculative legislation is what gets a debate.

That's just it though: what's the point in debate when every single major piece of legislation is fillibustered? Am I to believe that there has not been a single piece of major Obama legislation that a single Republican representative or senator thinks is a good idea? Every republican represented constituency in the nation feels exactly the same and the same outcome is what's best for them all?

That's a bit much.

I mean, we had a look at a all party Congress. The Republicans completely derailed our rights and passed stuff like the PATRIOT Act while throwing us into wars every which way, without as much as a fight from the Democrats.

That's what you get when the "tyranny of the majority" is fully recognized by the minority not stepping up to stop legislation they find reprehensible.

This should be the theory, but every piece of legislation of this administration has been found reprehensible? I think not.

Passed 99-1 in the Senate. The left got on board with that. They eassily could have blocked it. The Republicans didn't "derail" your rights, both sides did. It's so easy to blame one side or the other, but both sides played a part in that one.

No one finds it reprhensible except the far left. The right and the center realize that there is nothing to hide and the FBI isn't going to beat down your door over a phone call about a quarter bag of pot.

That all Republican Congress could have been stopped from passing something named the PATRIOT Act. The Republicans capitalized on a scared society to pass a law that cut drastically into our civil liberties. The FBI should not be able to tap my phone without a fucking warrant, but apparently it's okay because the terrorists might strike.

Wasn't there something said by the Bush administration after the September 11th attacks? "Keep shopping?" Both to keep the economy going and for another reason....Oh, I know. Because the minute you change your actions or degrade your freedoms because of a terrorists they have won.

But taking away freedoms that have been universal since the invention of the telephone and the invention of the idea of privacy isn't changing our lives or anything. Sure.

That's a great argument for what COULD happen because of the Patriot Act. Now, argue against what does happen.

So. Greece is in insurmountable debt and the EU had to bail them out. Germany had to pay something like 22 billion Euro themselves. The agreement, which is already signed, details massive spending cuts and tax hikes.

Ireland and Latvia have already had to experience deep cuts in their social programs to stay afloat. They're living with it.

Greece? They're shitting the bed over not being able to retire at 40 from their trash collector job.

Greece is going to be in a bad way for a long time....some say their economy won't get back to 2009 levels until 2017. Ouch.

Why did no one come up with DipShidious? Seriously? IC comes up with it, but no one else does? This is why the G-Mod Board Room is the place to be.

Actually, a long time ago I made a joke about how if I got banned I would come back as an alt named Lord Shidious. Tasty repped me for it.

Also, Scotty says he thinks you're at RAW. There's a guy with a "(Batman symbol) FOR WORLD CHAMP" sign.

FTS, you were masterful in the threads this weekend. That is all.

Thank you. I'd like to thank him for being such a big dick that I passed up the bar (for like an hour, before I went anyway) to mock him. My Lord, he really doesn't get it.

Italy, Spain and Portugal could have gone the same way by the end of the summer...

Not sure if the Germans can bail them all out

You know, I think I can Pessimism my way to a World War 3 situation amongst the EU members.

Greece's protests continue, and the bailout agreement signed is eventually compared to the old Treaty of Versailles. Greece is pissed.

Italy, Spain, and Portugal are downgraded and civilian protests start. The Vatican somehow scrounges up the money with other EU states to save Italy. Just barely.

Spain and Portugal are left to hang, and Germany outright refuses to fund any more bailout measures.

Greece, Spain, and Portugal ban together. They attack Germany.

Germany calls in their favors. US, Britain, and France are forced to respond against the countries.

Ireland sees a resurgence of the IRA, attacks Britain.

North Korea and Iran use this time to side with the indebted countries. China and Russia are forced through defense treaties to side with North Korea and Iran as well.

Soon we have these sides:

US
Britain
France
Germany
South Korea
Other EU Countries not in debt

Against:

North Korea
Iran
Russia
China
Ireland
Latvia
Greece
Spain
Portugal

The other Middle East countries will either remain neutral, selling oil and weapons to whomever wants them ala United States in World War 2, or split along allegiances to Iran or the West.

Phew. Probably won't happen, but there's your World War 3. Could happen by the end of 2010.
