Flair: "I have no plans on retiring from the industry anytime soon"

Ric Flair just is a guy that doesn't know when to quit. I do respect the fact he ain't a quitter but there is a limit. He can do more stuff backstage like helping out the younger talent. But NO!!! he's too good for that (in his opinion).

Flair for me is the definition of Workaholic. The business for him is like a drug and someone needs to tell him that he needs to find some new hobbies or something. he needs chill from the business/industry. I just hope he can come and realize this before he hurts himself or somebody else for that reason. But what are you gonna do he is in his mind a wrestling god?

Flair is too proud to say what the truth is. It's the reason Bret came back, HBK came back and plenty of others have returned. He needs money. Nothing he has done outside of wrestling has panned out, he and his wives spent money with no thoughts of the future and now he needs a paycheque to live off of. In the world of pro wrestling he is highly regarded and it is the best option to earn a living that he has.

He has every right to work as long as he wants, as far as I'm concerned, I would rather he do his work outside the ring. He'll wrestle if it means more money for him which may mean more matches than I'd like to see him in. I hope this time, when he really needs to walk away he's had sense enough to put something away to live off of.

Like most people, I am tired, a little embarrassed, and more worried than ever seeing Flair in the ring doing things he shouldn't be doing at his age and physical condition, but I also know that he needs money, and I am aware that being a wrestler is the only world he has ever known, even though only his wit is the only thing he has left.

Considering the sendoff he received from WWE, I wouldn't want to see him there on a regular again. Flair could work in a commish role. Personally I think Flair would make a great color commentator.

No problem with him being in the business and even on camera. Its his matches in the ring that need to end. How old is he now? It's been the same thing for the last 3 decades or however long it's been - same look, moves, etc. Everyone else I know changed at least one thing or more about them: Taker, Sting, Kane, Hogan, HBK, HHH, Warrior, Savage....whether it be attire, face paint, character, music, finishing move....whatever.

@JJ: Yeah he's a great talker. Another thing he could do is be a manager & guide a young upstart to a great career. He could also have a backstage role - mentoring young guys and helping them hone their skills. I mean there's so many things for him to do that wrestling is a waste of time for him. But maybe through all the brain cells he's lost over his career, he still doesn't get that lol. Even HHH, a guy who grew up idolizing Flair, said he was tarnishing his legacy by wrestling in TNA. I agree with that.

I think Flair is going to be one of those guys that dies in the business, much like Gorilla Monsoon was and much like Robert Remus (Sgt Slaughter) likely will be.

The difference though is that Robert Remus and Ric Flair are the same age, debuted the same year and have both contributed just as much to the world of wrestling as the other, but they had very different ideas of how to go about doing it.

... come to think of it, how is that I've never seen these two wrestle each other? Have they wrestled each other?

They both were trained by the same guy (Verne Gagne), are the same age, debuted the same year, ... WTF? I gotta look that up.
It's just like he said on raw a couple months before he had his last match in wwe at wrestlemania with shawn michaels . He said he would never retire and will die in the ring. Me personally I'm ok with it as long as its a manager role or a gm role as heel . I don't want to ever see him wrestle again he's getting to old for it ( 62 or 63 i think not sure ) and is way pasted his prime in the ring but is still gold on the mic imo.

Unlike some others, I don't find this to be an endearing or honorable revelation from Ric Flair. It would be one thing if he didn't go through the whole deal with the WWE and retiring, it would be one thing if he really gave a damn about TNA or the business itself. It IS unfortunately a whole other thing though because not only did he already do the WWE retirement thing, he doesn't give a shit about TNA, the business itself, or giving anything back to the business or younger talent. It's "Fuck You, Pay Me". We all know about his irresponsible spending, excessive debt, failed marriages equaling ridiculous alimony bills, etc....

You see, it may be a big secret to many of us inside the wrestling bubble, but outside of it Ric Flair isn't worth his cuff links. He needs the wrestling business a hell of a lot more than it needs him. Where else is he going to leverage people to pay him however much he thinks he deserves to grace them with his presence that continues to become more and more embarrassing to him? Think he's got a bright career in movies? No. Real Estate? No, his real estate ventures generally end up with a repossession or foreclosure notices. Car Sales? Terry Funk did it apparently so why not Flair? Naaaa, NO Customer Service skills whatsoever. Can you imagine Ric Flair doing his crazy man act on a customer, or even worse trying to talk one of them into cosigning on a car for him too??? No.

Flair is in it to stay afloat financially and nothing more. His passion, his REAL PASSION for wrestling died many years ago. Now this man holds on to who and what he once was constantly trying to resell those old commodities. I can't blame him, but I'm not going to exonerate him out of pity either. In all honest I can't say I'd have a problem with him still working in the business, but I do think he should be kept on tight reigns and held to higher expectations of his conduct in and out of the business. Like I said in the beginning, outside of wrestling you're just another asshole who thinks their a God of something. He better drop the slick Ric shit, expecting everyone to bend to his will and kiss his ass all the time, and start acting like a professional if he really intends to HELP the business, rather than damage it while tarnishing his own image and legacy further.

@rokuma - Spot on!

This is no surprise and good to hear for any pro wrestling fan. A few internet smarks will/have moan/ed, but pro wrestling fans (without agendas) will welcome this news greatly. Ric Flair is only second to Hulk Hogan as greatest pro wrestler of all time, and he's still more entertaining than 90% of todays wrestlers, so I had no doubts that he wouldn't be looking to retire anytime soon. Guys like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan are so iconic to wrestling that will most likely never retire. Wrestling companies will always have a place for those two and fans will always want to see them.

I've actually been quite dissapointed with how Flair has been used lately, he needs a much more prominant role than he has. I don't mean he has to wrestle every night but he certainly needs to be having more to do on iMPACT. He's hardly around at all, when he was with Fortune he was in multiple segments and he was great, now we're lucky if we see him for a few minutes. Ric Flair needs to be given a proper role within the show and I've always liked the idea of him managing Gunner. Flair could do wonders for Gunner and really establish him as a dominant heel IMO. But at the end of the day, I would just like to see more of Ric Flair on TV.

He was great in early 2010 when he coached AJ or when he feuded with Lethal.
