Finished Breaking Bad

Welcome to My (And Not Sly's) House
It aired in a full series marathon starting the Friday after Christmas and I just wrapped it up today.

Overall, it's a good show but I don't get the "greatest show of all time" hype behind it. The episode considered the best of the entire series, Ozymandais, did very little for me and felt like it was just another episode. I stopped caring about Walt about halfway through the series as he was just a criminal who kept breaking the law more and more, eventually admitting that he did it all for himself and not his family. The same is true for Jesse: not a horrible person at heart, but he still brought his problems on himself.

It's an entertaining show and I wondered where it was going. It also does an excellent job of calling back to previous episodes which is always fun. Also that Baby Blue song at the end is really catchy. That being said, Mad Men is still several notches above Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad is one of the best shows ever despite the first two series being rushed and actually just a bit pants.

Mad Man should've ended years ago.

The hype ruins everything. If you need further proof, take a look at my strained relationship with Antonio Cesaro.

It is certainly good, but I never got the "greatest TV show of all time" argument. Same with The Wire, although it is certainly up there. Like said though, hype was a killer in this instance and it's a shame.

Never had the same feel as The Sopranos did, the same natural chemistry. Then again, it could be argued that they are all somewhat overrated in their own regard.

Breaking Bad was a good show, despite the hype. Far from the best ever, but had some good moments.

I think this is a big part of it. I heard that for months on end before I watched it and while good, it's not THAT good.

I've yet to see a TV program that tops this;

It depends on taste, I for one was a big fan of it as to this day it's the only drama show I could get into (to be fair its one of the few I've ever given a real chance as well).

Besides, the best show ever is The Simpsons. Sure, its not as good as it used to be but for my taste seasons 3-9 is about as quality as a TV show could get. I don't care if its The Soprano's, The Wire, Mad Men or whatever, none of those shows can touch The Simpsons, they just can't.

Are people finally starting to realise that it's actually only "reasonably good"? After all the hype, I ran through the entire series in 3 weeks and couldn't see what the fuss was about. The only time it reaches the level of "Very good" is at the end of Season 4 but it's never even close to "Best show evah!"

Yeah that's another thing: the show should have wrapped up after season 4. The stuff with Jack and the Neo-Nazis felt tacked on.

Too many people say Breaking Bad is overhyped and overrated for it to be actually overhyped and overrated at this point.

Nah. It's still both.

It only feels that way because the finale just happened and there was non-stop press and discussion about the show. The Sopranos and Lost finales got the same kind of coverage and hype. Mad Men will get it, Game of Thrones will get it, The Walking Dead will get it, etc. It'll seem like the entire World will revolve around those finales before, during, and immediately after it airs, but a few months down the line it will be on to the next thing.

BB has it's fair amount of fanatics citing it as the best show ever, but I don't think it's nearly as many as people tend to believe. Those who do are, like I said, fanatics, and fanatics are very vocal and obnoxious, just the same as the people who HATE the show yet watched the entire way through.

But for the most part you see people putting it in their top 10, maybe top 5, which to me is fair.

If I can pitch in... Marathons are also a terrible way to watch television. I know its the hip thing with netflix and the internets and all, but having to wait a week and set aside some time for a show can do a lot to boost its affects, especially because BB was pretty tense (or aiming for it at least).

Ozymandiaz was the episode where Walt and Hank (whose growth was lovely, by the way) face off? What was great about that was that the episode ended. There was nothing any of us could do but sit there and wait. It may have been the most interesting thing going that week. Now you just pop on the next one, the tension is lost, and the show feels lesser for it.

BB isn't the greatest show ever, because there is no greatest show ever. Madman is dull, I'm still struggling my way through sopranos (somebody PLEASE explain what I'm missing here). My two cents... The greatest show would be a blend somewhere between The Wire and Sex and the City. Man, that Aidan was so perfect for Carrie.

Really? I'm not sure if Mad Men is as popular as those dramas. BB, Sopranos, and Lost all felt like events. Not sure anyone is all that obsessed with Mad Men these days, if ever. It's a critical darling, but not a pop-culture phenomenon.

I think by the time the finale rolls around next year it will be. Critics and AMC will promote it so hard that people will be compelled to be apart of it.

Seasons 3 and 4 were awesome in my book. 1 and 2 are average. 5 is good but overhyped. Like you said, 4th felt like a series finale. But then, they had to show Walt paying for his sins. Which is why I would say season 5 was sort of necessary.

Overall, I wouldn't say it's my favorite show, but of course my favorite show turned to shit in it's last season, but it was mighty entertaining. Also, overrated as BB might be, it can still easily be considered as one of the top 5 shows of the last decade.

I've watched a great deal of television throughout my life, and outside of three or four HBO shows, Breaking Bad is toward the top of my list. I expected some backlash given its popularity, though.
