Filibuster in the Senate

It'll be different in 2012. Obama will go on offense and younger people will be out again to vote. There's almost no way they'll vote for the GOP.

If he's going to go down in 2012, do something before you go down. This was ridiculous as it's the same shit that got us and the whole world into this mess. When the biggest economy in the world is falling apart because we're BROKE because the rich people don't want to pay money beacuse they can't buy an extra plane if they don't have the 4% more, the world falls apart with it. But hey, at least the GOP won't sneer at him so loudly right?

And guess who's at the forefront of these arguments? The fucks in congress. Most of whom are in the 250,000 a year range. Whoop de fucking do You won't be able to buy another Lamborghini. Assholes. I can't stand it when Congress holds the people hostage like this.

Wow, a spam thread that went 25 posts with only two people posting in it (aside from one Doug post).

Must be some kind of a record. Except for the thread KB and I have in the Admin Board Room. That thread easily trumps this one.

That's true as well. This may be blunt, but Blacks will vote for him, so will the younger people. Anything is possible.

I think he'll be reelected, but given that much time you're right, anything goes. A lot depends on who the GOP runs. If it's Palin then you might as well build Michelle an extra closet because they're not going anywhere.

If they want to disagree then that's fine. It makes things better when people disagree at times. But flat out stopping everything and saying we're doing what I want to do or we're doing nothing at all is childish and absurd. And the GOP is getting away with it.

Scariest thing: it was intelligent conversation.

Oh yeah, KB. If Palin runs, he's back in before we know it. Let's say a guy like Mitt Romney runs, it'll be a bit more intersting. A lot of people like him, and I know for a fact Utahns worship him.

Well yeah but he's Mormon. That'll work against him huge. Palin is unelectable and is considered a joke, McCain already lost and is too old to be a serious challenger, plus he's a bit nuts. Christie said he won't do it, Giuliani thinks he can do it which is funny too. Huckabee wouldn't be any kind of a threat. Without thinking that much I can't picture many other legit challengers. Maybe Pawlenty or Jindal or Barber.

A BA in Poli Sci, useful degree.

Yeah Romney being Mormon will hurt him. People think it's a cult, it has a stigma surrounding it. People think it's like the FLDS church, which it isn't. Jindal is a guy to keep an eye out for. He could come up big.

Jindal may be of Indian descent, but he's from Baton Rouge. That'll help him. Also, the way he handled the Hurricane Gustav situation as well as the BP spill in the Gulf will give him some major points in my eyes.

Going back to the original topic of this thread, I don't think tax cuts are the way to get our country back on its feet. With that said, I don't think higher taxes are the way to get this country back on its feet.

The only way this country will get back to a stable base is if we change our priorities on what SHOULD be important to us. An example I like to give is that Alex Rodriguez makes more money in one At Bat than I do in an entire year. Think about that for a second. Rodriguez plays a game in which he swings a bat maybe one time, and works for a grand total of less than a minute, and earns more money than I, a teacher, does in a single year.

Now, I don't begrudge Alex Rodriguez a bit, I'd take all the money they'd give me too. And I don't even blame the Yankees...they obviously have the money to spend. But where are they getting all this money? How bad must American priorities be for us to support the paying of one baseball player the amount of money which could fund two or three K-12 schools? And it's not just sports, you see the same in other areas of entertainment. In the span of two years, the movie Avatar has made over $760 million dollars. And let's not even get started on the tobacco and oil industries.

Until Americans right their priorities, it's not going to matter whether we get tax cuts or higher taxes, we're always going to have people scraping to get by.

Very true. The country is so obsessed with pop culture and stupid shit like Jersey Shore or whatever, but I'd bet half of the kids in this country couldn't do basic math properly.

Which leads me to the second problem this country has, and that's a two working parent family. It's been an absolute travesty for our society.

I'm not saying the women should have to stay home, but ONE of the parents should. If there were not two income families, then prices would be so inflated. Families are no better of now than they were 40 years ago in terms of comfort, because all prices have been adjusted for two income families. However, the family unit itself has suffered, as has the ability for parents to tend to their children.

Priorities are too screwed up, and until things change, our country will suffer.

Wanna know how they get all that money? Ole George was very smart. He got the local vendors outside of the old stadium who sell hats and shirts at games to give them some of their profit to the Yankees. As well as above average ticket prices, etc. but back to the topic at hand, unfortunately I have to agree with both you and KB here. There are more pressing matters to attend to like trying to fix the education system.

Edit: Sorry for butting into the conversation.

Not so sure on this one, at least not the premise. The conclusion is certainly right though. My dad, as big of an asshole as he is now and as little respect as I have for him now, taught me a lot. Even just by telling me random little facts or asking me to answer some simple question. It helped tremendously.

Spot on. The parental unit has shifted over the last few decades and it has left some children to raise themselves, in essence. They don't learn the importance of basic life skills, while their parents go out and attempt to make enough money to survive (So it's not their fault, they do what they have to do to survive).

Well, there's a lot of reasons why the Yankees make that money, but it all comes back to the fact fans are willing to purchase Yankee items, whether it be souvenirs or tickets, or whatever.

My argument remains the same.

Oh, no doubt, good people can be raised by two working parents, I feel I'm proof of that. On the whole though, there's definitely been a degradation in society, caused by many things, but one of which is the lack of parents in the home.

I can't count the number of times I've had kids tell me they weren't prepared for class because their mom or dad worked all night and didn't have time to do something.

Big reason is divorce. When you have one parent trying to raise a kid it's insane. My mom tried while my dad was off doing whatever but it was too much for her, especially when she was reeling from the divorce. I had to grow up fast but my personality was suited for it so it wasn't as bad for me.

How about the GOP setting up a nasty filibuster against a bill that would give medical attention to first responder 9/11 police men and firefighters?

Yeah that was pretty awful. It amazes me that somehow they're getting away with this. Having 57 votes out of 100 should get you the win every time. But majority doesn't rule anymore so there we go.
