Yeah, but didn't the ref pick up the fall, not the shirt pulling? The yellow card was right, but the player wasn't going to reach the ball at the time, a penalty kick should have been out of the question.

It was a penalty for the shirt pulling, which the ref will only pay attention to if the Italian goes down.
