Dark Match Winner
With 4th January almost upon us, and what many are calling the re-igniting of the 'Monday Night War' I've found myself getting a little nostalgic for all things W.C.W. I remember my cousin and I would watch Raw at my house and record Nitro at his because both shows simply could not be missed, well, to us anyways.

My question to you guys is this. If W.C.W. were still around today, what’s going on? Who are the champions? What memorable feuds have taken place since 2001? Has anyone jumped to W.C.W. from W.W.E. or visa versa? Does T.N.A. exist and we have three wrestling companies again?
These are just a few questions I’m throwing out there. If there are any relevant question anyone else has thought of, please, feel free to throw them around also.

I hate to say it since its been almost 10 years since WCW folded, but would it surprise anyone to see Hogan, Nash or DDP with the belt? Unfortunately with Ted Turner's money and egos, I still see the older guys running the place. With few exceptions, I could see a few of the young guys breaking that glass ceiling, Jindrak/O'hare, some of the new blood guys rising up. As much of a badass as he is, Steiner seems to put over the younger guys. Booker would too. If they still had that big payroll, imagine seeing Orton or Swagger in WCW. Cruiserweight division would give the smaller guys an opportunity to succeed. But, with a few exceptions, I still see Hogan, Sting, and some of the older guys collecting paychecks and running the joint. After his WWE retirement, Flair would come back and challenge Hogan at Starrcade XXXV, or whatever they'd be at. How sad would that be at this day and age for the PPV main event?

I think WCW might have taken a different approach besides "Hogan and Flair at Starrcade XXXV."

At the time of the company's demise, they were starting to showcase more and more young guys, although too little, too late. Guys like Mike Awesome and Lance Storm were getting more and more popular, and thus, main event-ready.
You had a young tag team in Chuck Palumbo and Sean O'Haire, who beat two established guys in Buff Bagwell and Lex Luger for the tag belts.

EZ Money from ECW was being featured as Jason Jett, and starting to gain crowd support. And who can ignore a young man named AJ Styles, who teamed up with Air Paris for a shot at the newly-created Cruiserweight Tag Team belts. Mike Modest and Christopher Daniels of independent fame were also being featured on a regular basis.

Aside from Steiner and Booker being World champ, there was a definite changing of the guard going on. I see either Lance Storm or Mike Awesome (or both) as multiple-time world champions. The rest of the guys mentioned could also be in the midcard or upper midcard, looking to break into the main event.

And had WCW not folded, I think TNA would be non-existent, as Jeff Jarrett would have stayed where the easy money is, and accepted his role in WCW rather than found a whole new company.

I like your optimism and I hope that's how it would've turned out. I think that Bishoff would've been the head of WCW again in 01, though and that means Hogan. I LOVED the Lance Storm push and the three belts he had at one time, but if you watch the match where he won the 3rd consecutive belt, Nash came out and booted him, squashing his relevancy.

It would be nice to the see Styles and other Cruiserweights have the same notoriety as heavyweights. UFC has lightweights as PPV main events, but I can't recall ever having a cruiserweight PPV main event.

They definitely had a boat load of talent, but honestly, I just see egos getting in the way. With Vince and WWE, he has final say, regardless of talent. In WCW, there really wasn't much leadership in the final years. The wrestlers themselves said that there was no structure and nobody knew what to expect when they showed up at the arenas. It would have been interesting to see how Goldberg would have developed.

anyone else agree with this: TNA is WCW!

Okay, maybe thats not fair, but damn. We got Bischoff, Hogan, Russo, Tenay, Jarret, Nash, Sting.

yuh don't worry buddy I knew it was when I saw the first broadcast commentators also. It was already set in motion just before they saw a lost to wwe. At the least it is a merger. A sneak attack and it has worked. BUT no way will they win now with new wwe's talent such as kingston. The main thing though, because wwe is so great at promotions, with stupid people like cena who aren't worth a lugnut, TNA doesn't stand a chance. But I will have all the people I know watching TNA. I myself use to prefer WCW and only turning to WWE for the Bret or Owen Hart, Rock, Shawn, HHH and Undertaker matches. Now most of those guys are gone or not on Raw.

As for the Champs, I think it would be Macho Man, Booker T, DDP, Sting, and Goldberg would NOT have left or retired...yet. The dude that use to be Wrath, who returned as a different name, with the pump handle slam was on a rise as I can recall. What has happend to that guy and his old partner Mortis (kanyon)!!!!? "Who's better than Kanyon!?"

I think things would be just the same. The Jarretts would have bought WCW possibly. Theres still the same amount of talent out there. Hogan would have got involved the second Russo was shafted. TNA would not exist if WCW was still going strong.

Hank Hell said it best, wcw was doing more in the final year to establish more stars, but was little to late.
IMO wcw from July 2000-March 2001 was better then WWF, it show cased new talent, Lance Storms 3 week title crusade, building to a match with Booker for the wcw belt.

IF wcw was still around, Flair wouldn't have been as credible as he was in 2008 and retired in such fashion, Hulk would be in WWE jobbing to Shamus.

WCW died in 1999 IMO 2000 was life support and they did try to revive it, and possibly could have if given more time. Their Champion was dominant, fresh and looked good, their lesser champions looked good, they brought in new tag belts to revive the cruiser division, Sugar Shane/Chavo were in the middle of a HOT feud, something wwe wouldn't of given a second thought to.

BUT this all came to late in the day. I think the last 8 month of WCW was some of the more productive months of the wcw years.
TNA would never have been around, pretty much TNA would of been wcw, minus Dudleys and Angle who wwe would of kept hold of.

Good question. It's been gone for almost a decade, but I'll do my best to come up with answers. I honestly think that TNA might have merged with WCW if it was still around, or perhaps Jarrett might have bought it. Most of my responses will reflect that scenario.

Who are the champions?

Most of the current TNA champions would be the champions in a 2009 version of WCW because if Jarrett had bought WCW then they would be the same organization.

What memorable feuds have taken place since 2001?

This one I'm finding tougher to answer. If WWF and WCW had not merged then we would have had less guys jump federations and most of the people who were in the old WCW would probably have remained in this one.... and many who are in TNA would probably be there too, so any interesting combinations of TNA wrestlers and old WCW wrestlers would be likely to happen.

Has anyone jumped to W.C.W. from W.W.E. or visa versa?

There would be far less federation jumps because many of the guys WWF aquired from buying WCW would probably have stayed....

Does T.N.A. exist and we have three wrestling companies again?

No, Jarret would possibly have bought WCW instead of Vince, and then the new WCW would be TNA.... the TNA we know of today would be the same organization that WCW is.

You've come up with a good thread here. These are questions we could all be asking ourselves, and it honestly is likely that the scenario I mentioned above could have happened if Vince hadn't bought WCW. Jarrett could have eventually, and then TNA would be a lot bigger now because it would be the same organization as what used to be WCW, which also means January 4th would be a lot more hyped since the competition would be bigger.... although if that was the case then they would have gone up against WWE a long time ago in my opinion.

if they had the right people backing them financially, WCW would STILL be a major player in the Wrestling game & TNA would probably be a minor league deal like Ring of Honor. but 2 this day, I'll never fully understand what was on the collective birds (minds) of the AOL/Time Warner people, U have a company that's bringing in money, beating up on the MAJOR competition in TV/PPV ratings & U distance Urself from it? that's still lost on me.

My fantasy WCW would probably look like this right now....

World champ:
Either lance storm/Mike Awesome...these two were guys were great wrestlers and personally i would of liked to see Storm the champ because he is the best wrestler in WCW.

I think that with strom as champ you get a whole new generation taking charge and some of his contenders could be guys like Awesome, Helms, Douglas, Stasiac, O'Haire....all of those guys would be perfect for this role....

Personally i miss WCW so i really think that this would be perfect and i wish WCW would of never died.

But to say that they would be contenderes with WWE, well i am not so sure so because WWE would still have Rock, Austin, HHH, HBK, Orton and so on.

This is a pretty good fantasy question.

If WCW were still here today, I bet that the nWo would probably be around again. Hogan, Nash, DDP, Steiner, and Flair would all still be around in some capacity. But guys like Storm, Awesome, Booker, and Goldberg would probably still be at the top as well. I think that Russo would probably be gone by now though because I think someone like Nash or Bischoff would finally realize that Russo was killing the product. Talent like Styles and Daniels would probably still be lingering in the mid-card or be in some stable or tag-team.

But if WCW were still here, I just know in my heart that the nWo would be reincarnated at least 3 more times with at least 10+ members. Bischoff and Russo couldn't seem to figure out any other big storyline than the nWo. The original group lasted for like 3 years or something! But they would probably use it to advance younger talent like Storm, Booker, or maybe some crusierweights.

Ric Flair would be world champ. Sting would be US champ. Harlem Heat would be tag champs. Hogan would be out for a while but preparing for a comeback to show that ratings were down because he was gone.
