Extremely Popular Games That You Hate

I'm not in a "mincing words" kind of mood right now, so I thought I'd be direct in this thread's title. Anyway, what games do you hate that everyone else seems to love?

Personally, I'll never understand the love that the Devil May Cry series has gotten. The gameplay is mediocre, the story's stupid, and the graphics are nothing that you can't find on any other Playstation game. Admittedly, I'm not a fan of the "hack 'n' slash" sub-genre of action-adventure, as I think that they're just a poor successor to the 2-d beat 'em up scrollers of yesteryear. However, Devil May Cry is probably the worst of the most popular hack 'n' slash series that are out today.

Personally, I'll never understand the love that the Devil May Cry series has gotten.

I know what you are talking about basically all DMC games are the same: Guy with white hair & a unique name and godlike powers, Unfunny jokes/puns, stupid weapons and gameplay that has never changed taking on a godlike being. The first game never made any sense to me. Also the game Bayonetta is exactly the same as this game.

One game i hate more than anything is the first Assassin's Creed game. When i first played this i thought "oh this is awesome" but as i went on doing the Assassinations and noticing i was just doing the same shit over and over again. It literally never changed. Even the assassinations were lame. The ending was confusing and i hated it soo much i stopped playing the game half way through and left it for something like 5 months before going back to it.

Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto, and pretty much the entire collection of open-map games that Rockstar produce. I never saw the value in playing a game that required you to explore worlds that big that aren't staged very well. While they're complex and their complexity is impressive, I don't have the attention span required to remember to pick up my drug shipment every 4 and a half hours between doing missions, stealing cars, traveling to meet new connections, etc.

Halo, the main 3.

Cannot stand any of them. Even the online play doesn't excite me much. I remember my friend won a radio contest and the prize was Halo 2 (obviously this was a while ago). I went to his house after school and we played through it and I just could not get into it. I don't even know why I don't like it. I just know that I don't go crazy for Halo every time a new game comes out. So maybe it's not the fact that I don't like the game, maybe it's the fact that I can't stand Halo fan boys being complete douches every time a new one comes out and then acting like they're king of the world when they kill you in an online game. Maybe I just don't like losing

I am probably gonna get a lot of heat for this one: Halo.

I have played the first of the games, as well as the second, the first one had me nowhere near hooked, I didn't find it interesting and I most certainly never found it to be one of the greatest First Person Shooter games.

I purchased the second one because I had hoped for it to improve, but I didn't find any improvement in terms of entertaining me, and therefore I consider it to be one of the extremely popular games I can't stand.

For me there are three games I can't stand, Red Dead Redemption, Halo (all of 'em), and Assassin's Creed. RDR is kind of bland and boring and I really didn't like it, Halo I've never enjoyed and I don't know why, Assassin's Creed is just boring. You do all the same shit over and over again and it is kind of irritating, I also can't stand the "futuristic" aspect of the game, I saw all the trailers and I figured you'd be a guy in the past, but no no no you have to get into an "animus" and travel back into your memories... huh? Ugh, I hate that game.

Like several have said, Halo. It is nowhere near deserving of the hype it gets. It's another first person shooter. Is it well done? Yeah, but it's nowhere near as "revolutionary" and "amazing" as people like to make it out to be. There are tons of FPS' out there, some even better than Halo. The story is shit, it's not unique, and it's overhyped.

That said, it's not a bad game, not at all. In fact, it's quite good. But the rabid fans who claim it's the best game ever really grate on my nerves, and I hate the game because of them.

I have Three,
1. The Halo Series
2. Saints Row 2
and 3. lots of people really like this one, and it will probably get me in trouble, but, Zelda.
I could never really get into Zelda, I just tried and tried, but it really doesn't appeal to me that much.
To me, Halo is just shit, it is overrated as Fuck, and, like Zelda, I just can't really get into it, CoD is a much better game under that category.
Saints Row 2, is definitely one of my least favourite games, I just don't really enjoy it, it isn't fun, I much prefer GTA to Saints Row, maybe its because I dont like XBOX
But they are the games that I dont really like

I have never liked Final Fantasy or any game which is close to it.I hated the games when I was younger and the name always made me think of some little fairly dude running around looking for love. Can't really say why I thought of it but that is what I got from the name when I heard of the game.It may have great graphics and I must say I have never played the latest one but I hear it has great graphics.I think that the game is thought to be really good but in true fact it is just another bad role playing game.Games liked FF just never seemed like the type of games I would play, I liked shooter games or sport games.Just by looking at the cover of the latest one I decided not to by it.

I don't understand why everyone seems to love:

- COD, Modern Warfare, or fuck it, just about any FPS really. None of them compare to Goldeneye in my opinion. Ok so the weapons are impressive and vehicles can be fun, but at the end of the day, it's still just point and shoot, run, repeat.

- Final Fantasy. Never liked the whole 'take it in turns to attack' bullshit. Plus most people i know still say 7 or 8 were the best ones and we're upto 13 now!

- Tekken. Again, why is this particular fighting game series considered to be better than Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat? What's so special about it? Seriously? I've always found Tekken to be slow and labourius to play.

And i hate:

Assassin's Creed. Crock, i'll do ya one better, i neve even finished that game, let alone went back to it. My mate lent me AC2, and i haven't even bothered to put it in my PS3. I watched him do the first few bits and saw that it was near enough exactly the same gameplay as the first one, and knew straight away that i wouldn't enjoy it.

I won't be bothering with Assassin's Creed Brotherhood or whatever it's called, either. Again it'll be the same except you train your own assassin's along the way and then send them off to kill people. What's the fucking point in sending someone else to do it? I WANT TO KILL THEM!!!! It'll have a multiplayer mode, but that certainly won't be enough to rekindle my interest. Call me when the story finally reaches the future and you have to assassinate people there instead, and i may just give a shit.

Saints Row 2, is definitely one of my least favourite games, I just don't really enjoy it, it isn't fun, I much prefer GTA to Saints Row, maybe its because I dont like XBOX

Then why not play it on the Playstation then? I played it the whole way through and saw that it wasn't really any different than GTA, except the variety of vehicles and costumes was larger, plus they had cruise control as a feature when driving, there were a LOT more side missions to fuck around with and felt the soundtrack overall better than than the ones GTA produce.

Oh man, there are a few I cant stand

Any call of duty game: At first I didnt mind them and actually thought there were sorta fun, But after awhile I find that nothing really changed it the series. Same overall gameplay just different setting. Got bored of it after modern warfare.

Any and all guitar hero or rock band: seriously go play a real guitar. Plus its all the same anyway. New game different songs hardly worth the 60 dollar investment for each New game.

All Gta games. I just dont find them fun at all, simply cant get into any of them.

Might get some heat for this but God of War. I find it slightly graphic for my taste. I have sort of a weak stomach when it comes to that much blood and gore, plus The game play just pisses me off. I hate button mashing.

There are a ton more but I dont want to sit here and type about every game I hate. These ones are just the ones I cant stand.

FPS in general and all the modern generation stuff specifically and the bro/dude gaming culture it has spawned. When the macho jocks put down the ball and picked up the control it was a sad day for all involved. It repulses me and make me long for the simple days of Wolfenstein 3D and D00M.

To the guy on about guitar hero/rock band: To each his own I guess. I play Guitar, Bass, Drums, Sax, and a barely audible amount of piano and have for close to 2 decades. The point of those games isn't to replicate playing/learning an instrument. It's about having fun with the popular music you enjoy. It's the feeling of you and your friends singing along (air guitaring/air drumming) to the stereo in your car at the top of your collective lungs cranked up to 11 (with graphics and silly plastic controllers).
If that doesn't persuade you perhaps this will:

Mortal Kombat, Just when I learned how to play Street Fighter, this game came out. Everyone I knew hyped this game and told me how much better than SF2 it was. This was back when arcade games where everywhere, and this bitch cost fifty cents. I spent so much money trying to become good at this game, it never came to be. I hated the fact that every time I played I never beat more than two people. I hated that everyone and their brother(one time sister) could beat me at this game. I hated that just when I was finally able to play Street Fighter that this game came out and Street Fighter got put on the back burner.

Any and all guitar hero or rock band: seriously go play a real guitar. Plus its all the same anyway. New game different songs hardly worth the 60 dollar investment for each New game.

Just so you know, the new Rock Band that's coming out, does teach you to play real guitar. Of course it will cost you a hefty sum but they have closed the gap by creating a mode to teach you real guitar on a real guitar (created by Fender) that acts as a controller and can also be plugged into an amp and used as an actual electric guitar. THAT is the power of technology and IT is awesome.

Madden.
How much times can you change game play to make it that much different then last years edition, I rather play it outside anyways.

Any and all guitar hero or rock band: seriously go play a real guitar.

Uh, dude...really? Really?

So, like, are you saying that instead of playing FPS's we should all go get guns and shoot people in real life instead? Instead of playing Mario we should go blasting through space without a helmet, stomping on all the turtles we find? Instead of playing Bomberman, we should try and blow up our friends in real life?

Why would I want to learn to play a real guitar, something that takes years, just so I can play The Final Countdown for five minutes and then never do it again?

Ridiculous.

Anyway, on topic. I don't really like first person shooters like CoD, etc. Back in the day I used to enjoy Goldeneye 007 and Jet Force Gemeni, but nowadays first- or third-person-shooters just don't entertain me. I don't know what it is. Yet people seem to love them, so

Doctor, while I agree with you, I don't quite think that is what he meant, Guitar is a much easier lifestyle then going to war. Anyway, I do agree wih you, Guitar Hero, Rock Band, those games, are a ball of fun, I love them, the paying part, you pay for video games, is that wasting your time, no. Guitar hero is for guys who can't be fucked to learn the guitar. But I admit, some of te Guitar Hero games they have made have been quite bad. And also, on the guitr ero topic, I can't stand DJ Hero, I have tried to play it, but it is just too retarted, spinning and holding down, activisionl took it too far there

Uh, dude...really? Really?

Dude why Am I getting so much heat for my opinion? I just dont like the games. I dont find them fun at all, Never have. Im in the mist of learning how to play a real guitar right now. Because I just dont see the reply value in Hitting 4 little color buttons for ever single game the release.

So, like, are you saying that instead of playing FPS's we should all go get guns and shoot people in real life instead? Instead of playing Mario we should go blasting through space without a helmet, stomping on all the turtles we find? Instead of playing Bomberman, we should try and blow up our friends in real life?

Are you serious? Why would I ever suggest something that ludicrous. I simply just thinks it distracts people from actually learning to play the real thing. I had a friend who absolutely loved guitar hero, Loved it so much it made him want to actually try playing the real thing. But gave up after he found out how difficult it really was. he then vowed he would stick to guitar hero instead, and so he did. Granted im sure everybodys not like this. But this is just how I feel towards the game. hate it. Cant change my mind.

Why would I want to learn to play a real guitar, something that takes years, just so I can play The Final Countdown for five minutes and then never do it again?

Learning to play a real guitar, yes takes time but its so worth it and much rewarding on A personal level. Im not completely against it. I just hate it how theres so many of them. Just make one game, one game! and make all songs DLC. Because I know a lot of my friends who simply dont want to invest $60 for the same game just with different songs. When will it stop? Until every band has a Rockband game of their own? Now that is ridiculous. and dont get me started on DJ hero, ooo wheres flute hero? how how about tuba hero? Complete over saturation of their product, Just like how there are way to many FPS out there.

I actually agree with you on the FPS genre, I only play a handful of them but yet there seems to be a new one hitting the shelves every week and there almost all the same. If you noticed at E3 this year, that was the main focal point at microsofts press conference, aside from Kinect. Even Sony was getting bad for it to. Time for something original.

And congrats On the guy that said rock band was actually teaching people on how to actually play. I think thats a big step forward. Kinda almost makes me not hate it as much now.

Some of my first few choices have already been mentioned (Halo, COD), so I'll go with something else.

Gears of War: I seriously don't get the appeal of this game. Everyone I talk to acts like it's the greatest game they've ever played, including some of my friends. I figured I'd give it a try, like I do with all games. Five minutes into the first level and I was bored as hell. I played it a bit longer just to see if it would get better, but it didn't. It felt like I was doing the same thing over and over. Maybe I should give it another shot, but I'm not sure it would help.

Another game would be Madworld. I know it's not extremely popular, but some people are obsessed over the game, and for very little reason. It's a game that's just violent for the sake of it, with very little to offer as far as gameplay goes.

Definitely Halo. I don't even think it is really all that good as a 1st person shooter. It just isn't all that much fun. For consoles, its alright, but perhaps that is where my bias lies. I don't believe that a console with a controller is the best medium for that type of game. I have always enjoyed the PC combo of keyboard and mouse, which makes aiming/looking etc much more fluid than an analog joystick can do. Mice allow finer control, which give you a steadier hand. Plus a well equipped PC can kick any console's ass graphically.

To be quite honest, I hate Metal Gear Solid 4.

But don´t get me wrong I love the Metal Gear franchise, it´s probably the best video game series next to Zelda but MGS 4 was a big disappointment to me.

The first thing that bothered me was that very weird suit of Snake which looks ridicolous and makes no sense whatsoever because just because the suit changes its colour it´s still not invisible. The constant puns about breaking the fourth wall were also very annoying and to me not funny at all.

The gameplay was decent I admit, but there was barely any gameplay, the game consists mostly out of very very long cutscenes which were impressive but yet uninteresting. But the worst about this game were the stupid Bosses, the idea of the unit of traumatized women might have looked good on paper but damn, they didn´t give them anything that could make them interesting. All they did was scream, laugh or cry...

All in all I was very disappointed with this game even though I am a fan of the franchise.

Completely agree with whoever said Assassins Creed. That game was FAR too repetitive for my tastes. I heard 2 wasn't as bad, but I won't give that series another crack.

I will also admit I didn't care for Mass Effect the first time I played it, but I never really gave that game a fair shot. It's on my to-do list to give it another chance.

The majority of this thread beat me to it. The Halo Franchise. It doesn't truly matter which one, they all blur together. And speaking of which, can anyone tell me what upgrades they've made to make it worth buying upon the new(er) copy comes out?

I'm fully interested in seeing someone defend this title, for the pure purpose of trying to understand how and why its the greatest of all 'FPS' games out there. It seems very basic, to be honest.

When I think of good 'FPS' games I think of something thats going to suck me in, and grab my attention. Left 4 Dead for example. Its your basic "kill all zombies" type of game, but with several different situations thrown in the mix. Does Halo have that? If so, what are some situations?

Another ideal factor is in most 'FPS' games, you either get your pick of players, or at least the option to create your own. Not that a CAS(hooter) would matter as you can't see them - however, does Halo have this?

Finally, what are the Boss Battles like? How is the online multi-player like? Would it truly hold up to something like Left 4 Dead, or Call of Duty MW2? Both of which involve actual strategy and thought process instead of your basic 'run and gun'.

Halo is meant to be the Franchise of the xbox system, but in all honesty - its barely worth wasting money to rent. Let alone buy, or base a main selling point around.

For me it's simply two overrated, overhyped game series. Halo is the first one I will begin to explain. Beyond it's mediocre FPS style, it's boring, 2 dimensional characters, and weak plot, the most annoying aspect of this series of games are the unrelenting fanboys that worship it to no end. If you dare say one bad thing about it they will poorly insult you and the type of games you enjoy like little cry babies. I deal with a ton of these idiots on my YouTube channel on gaming which is mildly popular, and at school because everyone seems to love it and they apparently so much better than Wii and PS3 owners because they have a 360 and it has the Halo series ohhhh i'm so jealous. :suspic:

Call of Duty is the same thing. Nothing but the same old FPS garbage we see in every other game, yet somehow it's the most amazing god damn series ever. It has a huge fan base that worships it to the point of childishly insulting gamers like myself that see otherwise. Also there is nothing more boring than walking around in first person and shooting.

These games maybe the most boring, overrated, piece of shit games that are out there right now. But their fanboys (which come in million) make me hate these games more than I already did. My cousin is in the class of annoying fanboys for these series (mainly Halo) so I have to put up with him and many others. Why can't we have fun playing platform games anymore? I seem to be in a small minority in thinking Mario games and LittleBigPlanet are more fun than Generic FPS Game #1122.

Uh... yeah.

Here's my list:

- Pretty much every FPS ever made. ESPECIALLY Halo. It's so slow paced and boring.
- GTA and GTA clones.
- Zelda. Zelda. Zelda. Zelda. Zelda. I actually find the Zelda series decent but that's it. It's SO overrated it drives me nuts. Metroid Prime is 99999x better. Fact.
