Since I can't be bothered to look it up, is David Villa even in the Spanish squad this year? Or did he magically get popped off the radar onto some injury of sorts?

This game is going to be off the chain, yo!

Spain aren't playing with a striker for this match which surprises me. If it works out, then they will win the championship with that tactic. If it fails, then it is going to fail badly. Can't really say that Fabregas is going to be a better choice to bag goals than Torres, even if Torres record at Chelsea is shocking quite frankly.

That said, I only recognise about half of the Italian players. It must be one of the "weakest" Italian teams I have seen in my lifetime. I don't know if I fancy them to get out the group now that I look at the way they are going to line up.

Either way, this is going to be an incredible match or a flat and feeble attempt at one. There is no middle ground here.

Broke his leg in December (I think it was December).

Not in the squad.

I think it's like, ages, since Italy really had a strong national team, I don't recall it being noteworthy since 2002-2006 or so. Much like Dave I don't recognize the majority of the squad, and Italy usually had these very very recognizable attackers like Del Piero, Inzaghi and Totti. Good thing to see Buffon is still on the team at least.

Right, ouch. I think that might hurt Spain a lot, he was really the main reason Spain was doing worth a shit in the world cups.

Oh dear. This won't end well. It's not as if they don't have a good striker to play or anything, they have fucking Negredo and Llorente who done really well last season if form is what they're worrying about.

I can only hope Del Bosque has some sort of reasoning for this.

No strikers? What the hell Del Bosque. I can only imagine this is some kind of mindfuck.

Italy have been awful recently, I'm still picking Spain to win but with considerably less goals now.

In both Span and Italy's defense, both teams still look strong.

There is no doubt that Fabregas can score goals. For so many season Arsenal relied on his goal-getting ability. He will play as the "center-forward" in the match and he might do well. With the way that Spain play, I think this could definitely work for them. They will work hard and pass it into the "forwards". They can also, simultaneously, pack the midfield. Like the pundits on ITV said, this is a throwback to how football used to played. Not a forward on the pitch is how it used to be done. Let's see how Spain utilize it. I'm excited.

And as for Italy, they still have bags of quality from start to finish. Buffon. Chiellini, Pirlo, Ballotelli, Cassano and Motta are excellent players. Although I haven't heard of their players in some of the positions, I know that they have quality, it goes without saying.

To be fair to Italy, they are putting on a good performance. They have looked pretty sound at the back and have moved the ball well. They are making it hard for Spain to break them down.

Spain doing a good job at pressuring Italy at the Italian 18 Yard box there. How they never got a free kick I don't know.

Xabi Alonso's long passes are sublime.

Spain are starting to get into it now. Whoever just had the ball in the Italian area should have taken a bloody shot, they had a clear path.

And Balotelli losing the plot for the first time. Impressed that he managed to last half an hour.

Good point.

Decent half, Spain are in desperation for a striker right now. Get Negredo/Llorente on, leave Torres for later.
