Do I have everybody's attention now
Lets face it. No one at this point is as big in the rap game as Marshall right here. He's had two CD's CONSECUTIVELY sold out: Relapse and Recovery making him the only rapper who's had two diamond certified albums. Only one. Not Kanye, Not Fiddy. Marshall right here has made the rap game his bitch.

Almost every album he's released has been a chart topper and he's been considered one of the greatest rappers that lived.

His lyrics are reputed to be unmatched in the music industry and he fuckin' knows it.

Beautiful, Love the Way You Lie, Not Afraid are some of his best works to date and anyone calling Eminem a bad rapper is either blind or does not know rap.

...Then there's Lupe.

You wanna talk about a cult following in the rap industry you go to a certain muslim rapper named Wasalu. His rap career almost mirrors that of Marshall. Every album he has released has been a chart topper. Music critics are practically in love with him based on the music he produces and his fan base just gets stronger and stronger.

But perhaps where he's most known for is his lyrics. Lupe redefined "rapper" and turned himself into a poet. Almost every song he's ever sung has some sort of underlying message under it weather Metaphysical or not, Lupe's lyrics are a code for something else entirely. In an industry of "drugz, hoez, dollaz" Lupe is a man with a message.

So with that in mind:

Lupe or Eminem?

Now, I know what I posted from Lupe is some of his older stuff, but it is clearly some of his best. Now for my opinion.

Eminem is in top 5 of all time for me, possibly top 2 or 3, so I'm going to say he is the better overall. Shady has just been going for way too long with way too many sick rhymes to be overshadowed. He can tell a story, as evidenced 97' Bonnie and Clyde, Love the Way You Lie, make a serious song about a serious topic, such as Like Toy Soldiers, portray his issues in home/personal life in songs like Cleaning Out My Closet, or Not Afraid. He can also just kick back and have fun, like he does on I'm Back and The Real Slim Shady. His newer stuff may sound somewhat different, but he is just growing as a rapper and it is still as sick as his older stuff, no doubt. Some down his albums such as Relapse, but he has stayed at least solidly consistent since he started, and is amazing with what he can do with a song. He wins the overall battle for me.

But I can't go without mentioning Lupe. He is underground, but finally becoming mainstream. Lupe Fiasco's Food and Liquor had some of the best lyrics from a rapper this decade, as he kept going strong with songs such as Superstar, Streets on Fire, and others. Some say Lasers sucks, which I cannot agree with. It is nowhere near his best work, but Coming Up, The Show Goes On, and Words I Never said are still solid works, among others. Lupe is one of the best up-and-coming rappers and to me already tops Lil' Wayne, Gucci Mane, T-Pain, Waka Flocka, Jay-Z's newer stuff, and half of Kanye West's entire discography. Lupe is beastly, and is a poet on the microphone. He is an extremely impressive rapper, and very young, so in 10 years, who knows who will take the title as the best, it could be Lupe.

So for now, Eminem has the advantage with his extensive works and experience, and the sheer amount of genius work he has released, but Lupe is coming up quickly, and is a rapper to be reckoned with.

Eminem is better and there is absolutely no contest because he has had the most success financially with his cd releases, more than any other rapper, AND it's some of the best material out there to listen to at the same time as being so successful. Lupe's ok but come on, this is Eminem we are talking about.

I'm sorry to sound like an idoit. But unless you are Dre, Tupac or a really famous artist. You have allmost 0% chance in beating Eminem in this, a glorified popularity contest. But I need to say this, who the fuck is Lupe Fiasco? Yeah I know that is comming from the Icp fan, but really. Compared to Eminem who is he?

Almost every album he's released has been a chart topper

Outside of his first single album Infinate or however you spell it. Eminem's single albums have at least all topped out at the top 5. Eminem no matter how you slice it has made the rap game his bitch since 1999 to today. His sales are fucking amazing, and that's something Lupe could only wish for.

I'm sure Lupe is a good artist, but Eminem believe it or not is somthing I grew up with. As I'm sure some of you have, He is better hands down in allmost every way that Lupe.

Lupe has a lot of potential but Eminem has been at the top of the rap game for a long time now. While I am not a fan of some of material (Relapse was awful), he HAS written so many fantastic tracks and made some top quality albums.

He can be funny, violent, tell stories in his music, and on his latest album "Recovery" has completely reinvented himself and dropped the accents and become alot more serious, covering issues that he previously wouldnt have touched on, including his personal problems.

As another poster said, unless you are an absolute legend like 2Pac, Dre or Snoop there is pretty much noone who can compete with Eminem in rap today.

Well yes, I'm not gonna disagree with you there but Lyrically, I find Lupe much more mystifying than Eminem. I'm not knocking Eminem but when you listen to him you know exactly what you're listening to. You're listening to brilliance, yes. But you know what you're listening to. When you listen to Lupe there is another level of brilliance inside of his songs that is matched by very few rappers including Eminem.

AND it's some of the best material out there to listen to at the same time as being so successful. Lupe's ok but come on, this is Eminem we are talking about.

I know that, but I'm talking lyrics. I mean if you're talking financial, Lupe's a joke but lyrically, Lupe has been brilliant with every single song. Even at his worst he's still better than most rappers today.

Even at his worst he's still better than most rappers today.

Definitely true, Lupe is one of the most unappreciated emcees around today.

With that said, Eminem is in another galaxy as far as I'm concerned. He is a master lyricist, is funnier than any other rapper I've heard, and can be serious and emotional when the song calls for it. He's truly the most well-rounded rapper there is. Lupe will hopefully be around for years to come, and I'm interested to see his growth over time, but Em is the better performer in pretty much every way.

I don't know if anyone remembers back a couple of weeks ago, there was a thread on Lupe Fiasco and his latest album? Anyway, I was very scathing of him in that thread and said that he really didn't do enough to break into the mainstream and that is why no one is ever going to put him the same list as people like Eminem and 50 Cent. Still, as I listened to Lasers over the last few days, I have completely changed my tune.

3 weeks ago, I would have chalked this one up to Eminem and left it be. However, Lasers has me convinced that Lupe Fiasco has all the tools to break big time and it becomes a closer competition. What's funny is that both of these guys have now given me a huge album over the last year or so that has completely had me hooked.

Eminem's Recovery was exceptional and a welcome return to form for the master of the rap world. I honestly think that there is no one on this Earth who can keep up with Eminem in terms of lyrical talent and managing to get so much emotion from his words. I simply think that he is one of the best rappers to ever have walked the Earth and that we are all lucky to have had him in our lives. Recovery snapped me into a new world of music and was brilliant from start to finish. I listened to it over and over again from the very moment I got it and loved every second of it.

Lasers is the best album I have heard all year and that is saying quite a lot. However, I truly believe that he is closing up the gap between himself and other rappers like Eminem. His lyrics are amazing and I have posted countless efforts on my Facebook over the last few days. They just manage to relate to everything going on in your life and that is the great thing about Lupe Fiasco. Both of them tell it like it is and are completely real.

I think I have to give this one to Eminem but Lupe has blown me away recently.
