Elimination chamber- no prestige.

Pre-Show Stalwart
The first elimination chambers included all star wrestlers. HBK. HHH, Goldberg ( just kidding but he was in them) Last year, R TRUTH was in one as well as Ted Dibiase. Everyone else was either established or getting a push. John Morrisom was beginning his push. Kofi had come off a feud with Orton. Sheamus was champion. Cena is the face of WWE. Undertaker is elimination chamber practically. and Jericho was very established.
M question- will EC be as watered down, or more? There were only two people that did not deserve their spot AT ALL, but I hope it remains or improves that way. Your thoughts?

I will agree that the Chamber has lost some prestige....midcarders can be entertaining given the right circumstances though just like Morrison was last year who stole the show....in the first couple of Chambers you had Triple H, Kane, Jericho, HBK, Goldberg....but you did also have midcarders such as RVD and Booker T who were labeled as midcarders for life by WWE even though they had 1 world title apiece.....you also had an inexperienced and very new Randy Orton in the second one....Carlito and Chris Masters have also been in the Chamber, even Hardcore Holly, and Big Daddy V and Mike Knox have been in the chamber....I think given the circumstances and the talent they had they had to use people who were in the main event, or were pushed slightly....it all just depends on the talent....in this years SD chamber I could see Edge, Kane, Ziggler, Big Show, Wade Barrett, and possibly Kofi Kingston.....on the RAW side I could see The Miz, John Morrison, Sheamus, Randy Orton, and maybe Cena and Punk if they dont have a singles match....

This is just my opinion but....ever since they changed their PPVs, and made this one the February PPV instead of No Way Out, it instantly lost prestige...kinda like Hell in a Cell and Money in the Bank

All three of these matches were way better, when, they had one, or maybe two a year

I think one of the reasons we see mid carders in this type of matches is because there are not that many main eventers for both of the chambers. On Smackdown we have Kane, Rey, and Edge as the most recognizable figures right now. The rest of the people in that match would be high mid-carders or just mid-carders. I still see Barret as high mid-card. The same goes for Big Show. On Raw you got more star power, but you can't just throw all of it in the chamber. There are going to be at least 2 or 3 more matches added to this two. Hopefully they save CM Punk vs Cena for mania. Overall though, I don't think it has lost that much prestige. The HIAC did lose some because it no longer has that many insane spots and cruel feeling to it, but the chamber still keeps some of that.

Yeah but did those chamber matches suck? I didn't think so.

And each show doesn't have 6 main eventers, so they get some upper mid carders, whoever they are trying to push, or storyline driven people (Ted) to set up for a future match.

If the match is good, I could care less about "prestige". Because good matches I'd think would bring in prestige.

agreed with the last post....the matches like Hell in a cell, MITB, and Elimination Chamber have lost some prestige because we all know when they will take place...i miss the unpredictability of when these types of matches would take place, except for MITB which is every Mania, but thats a long time to wait anyways...TLC is the same way....I liked the concept of the PPVs, but if they were only done just the one time instead of annually....they need to replace the Chamber, Cell, TLC, and MITB ppv with new names....

EC chamber just sucks overall. It is so gaudy and corny. Even if they put all the best guys in there it's still garbage.

Anyways, obviously it has to be watered down considering who is on the roster right now, we don't even have that many top guys on each show, so some of the spots will be used to try to push guys or whatever.

I wish the EC would just go away. It's about as tacky as Wrestling Society X on MTV was with exploding casket matches. Those stupid little pods and everything.... wow, big whoop. Just have the guys enter from backstage at staggered time intervals, or have them stand outside the ring.

The chamber matches in the last couple years have lost their impact but I wouldn't blame the wrestlers. They do have filler. Guys like Mike Knox, Test and Bob Holly. But id say its more lazy booking throwing them together. They didn't have storylines and its not like they were really the draw anyways.

One thing is the lack of blood. Early matches had HBK and HHH busted open 5 minutes in. It felt more harsh which is how it should be.
But now with have guys like Morrison, Ziggler etc who are capable of putting on amazing matches without blood. And really they are adding prestige to their careers.
The ppv is meant to be the final grueling test before Mania. And to me its the perfect way to lead up. I look forward to it because its not something that's seen often.

I think the reason HIAC has become stale is because We see cage matches on tv or as dark matches. All hell in a cell is is a cage match with a roof. You can only see a guy being thrown into a chain link fence so many times before its boring.
Plus there isn't that feeling of the devils playground anymore. no Foley or Kevin Nash getting hit in the head with a hammer by HHH.
They've wasted the reputation it once had. You would think Undertaker and CM Punk would have totally amazing match in 09, but it was nothing more than a shitty throwaway match just to get the title off Punk.

Another reason the chambers suck is because they are no longer hardcore. Same thing happens at hell in the cell, instead of seeing a hardcore brutal match we get pretty much a normal match in a cell without the hell. If your not gonna push the limits, dont have the match

It is tough for gimmick matches to run more than once a year or so...much less having two on one show. It's tough to be really innovative in a way that makes sense when someone did something similar an hour earlier. I think it lost the prestige, not because of the participants, but because of overuse. Same with MITB. It's just not as special as it was.

I think they ruined the EC when they included it in the RTWM. We already have the RR, we don't need another excuse to win yourself into the WM main event. It's a lot better to anticipate a match from late january - early april instead of waiting for the midpoint to see who will actually be at Mania. EC should be at Survivor Series or right between it and SummerSlam.

The Chamber match shouldn't be used to determine the WWE and World Heavyweight Champions going into WM, but instead have one Chamber match for the specific brand that doesn't have a World Title match scheduled for WrestleMania to prove who is the real #1 contender.

I still am not fond of that. No offense. But it basically gives one another shot to "main event" mania. It's taking prestige away from the RR. While your idea is better than what they've been doing (in fact, I believe that was the stipulation in 2008?), it still shouldn't be where it is.

I don't think the E.C sucks. The matches are good and you don't always need to be hard-core to be good. See HBK-Taker I. I think the matches just do fine without the blood or the sledgehammers. But, why people find the E.C boring is the simple fact of lack of star-power. Some people might argue that one show doesn't have 6 main-eventers, but I'll list them at least for this year:

RAW
The Miz
John Cena
CM Punk
King Sheamus
John Morrison
Randy Orton

SmackDown!
Edge
Kane
Rey Mysterio
Alberto Del Rio
Big Show
Dolph Ziggler

So, 6 from each brand. And some people say that there are no other matches for the card, well you could have the R.R winner face some random mid-card guy, have all the rest titles on the line and you'll have say what, 6-7 matches. One E.C in the beginning and one at the end between 5 matches won't even make it stale. Plus, you could have 2 different scripts easily for 2 matches. So, there's no need to complain.
