Edge/Paul Bearer Storyline

I'm actually loving it. I was missing the mind games from someone who wasn't Taker or Kane. I think this is like a "serious" mind game since the last feud between HHH and Orton. Obviously Kane is looking like shit but I honestly don't give a rat's ass about it.
The only problem I have with this thing is where is it going? Edge, kidnapped him before Survivor Series, but apperently it was for his rematch? Anyway, I guess it's going to be the "X" factor for their match at TLC.

I disagree. Best storyline from this year from the Blue Brand easily.

Sure it makes him look like a baby face but what would you do if your dad was kiddnapped even if you were heel? Say who the hell cares about you dad.... I sure don't!!! would you? I doubt it. With this right here there are making one of scariest man in WWE look like a wimp. Seems great to me.

That is exactly what is wrong with this storyline, they are degrading their world heavyweight champion kane once again. The opening segment where he came out and said he was a normal family guy and Paul Bearer was the only thing that meant more to him than the world title. No, big mistake, to your champion nothing and I mean NOTHING should ever be more important than the world title, that's just devaluing your own stock. I'm sure there was some inconsistency which showed that he cared more about the belt anyway, but I forgot what it was..... either way it was sloppy.

I don't mind the story in terms of how it plays out with edge getting his shot again, that's ok but the only way kane can recover from the humiliation is to become more of a monster when he gets bearer back and have him beat edge at TLC. Other than that, I will have considered this a poor story.

It is a really funny storyline. On Smackdown 2 weeks ago I laughed in every scene. What really made it for me was Kane's facial expresion. The look on his face when he came out and looked up at Edge at the top of the audience with Paul Bearer just sitting there. You could feel his frustration. When Edge had Kane asking for Paul Bearer backed and said that just was so insencere i lol'd.

They need to be wary though because a storyline like this can became old fast.

i tink this storyline is thick.its just wreking kanes caracter....like wen he said he wasnt a monster and he wanted to spend the holidays with his family and was in tears wdf like isnt he ment to have buried his brother alive....wish nexus had of buired the two of them and the title hada got vacated that would a been class

I agree that Kane's character is brought into question in the storyline and the holidays crap he was going on about is stupid but I find it too funny to care. I don't have much hope for Kane now anyways and can hardly take him serious as a monster.

If by "interesting" you mean, "Do I care what happens next?" then the answer is absolutely not. This story has gotten lame, repetitive, and boring as the matches between these two. It makes me not like either one and I just want it to be over. Kidnapping and humiliation is not funny, and I can't imagine that we are supposed to believe that edge would hold bearer hostage for...what, 3 weeks now, starting in England...and absolutely no one would do anything? Come on...

I can't help, but be completely ammused. I haven't laughed this hard at something on Smackdown in awhile. I'm not sure if Edge's maniac gimmick is suppose to be comedy, but it sure comes off that way, and I LOVE IT. And all in all, I think it's saved Edge's face gimmick. Even if the situation is backwards, and Edge SHOULD be the heel. Fact is- The human race is much more cynical these days. The sprinkles of dark humor in this have kept me thoroughly entertained.

How did it save Edge's face gimmick? His face gimmick was to get rid of stupidity in the WWE, such as the soaring Eagle and the laptop GM. Playing juvenile games with his opponent totally contradict the gimmick. I think it ruined Edge's face gimmick, making him a hypocrite which is heelish. You can argue he is being a tweener but I say it is a result of him not capable of excelling as a top face or a top heel at the moment.

If he was acting all evil like what the Undertaker's gimmick allow, I would say the story would be acceptable. But right now Edge comes off as a kid taunting another kid because he has something that the other kid wants but cannot obtain.

This storyline is one of the stupidest things ive ever seen, why have kane beat taker 3 ppvs in a roaw then have him almost becoming edge's bitch! this storyline is really pushing me away from smakdown, edge needs to dissapear and kane just needs to retire, bring all the technical wrestling guys back to smackdown and just leave the big guys who do four moves on raw

You knw, it's actually gotten to the point now where I'm siding with kane. Edhe kidnapped someone's aged father and smacked em round the back with a chair, that is pretty criminal.. edge is acting like a tweener and kane is acting like a face. When TLC comes, I want kane to smash edge's face in. Going by the crowd reaction, only few share my sentiment but even still, I just reckon edge is being cunt. It is also partly due to the fact that I don't like edge as a performer anyway, he's IC champ material and thats it.

This has just gotten worse by the week. Kane, the monster heel champion, is reduced to tears, begging for his father back? Then he's duped so easily time and time again by Edge with mannequins? Please. This angle is an insult to the intelligence of wrestling fans.

Edge is supposed to be the face here. Yet, hes tied up an obese man and is literally torturing him. How in the world are we supposed to cheer for that? Then they brought in the mannequin crap, when i thought it couldnt get worse.

The fact of the matter is, its a rediculous storyline. I guess they're trying to say that Edge is getting so far into Kane's head that he won't be able to focus and beat Edge at TLC, but their manner of doing so has been crap. The sooner they end this awful angle, the better. I guess they want us to think that Edge is giving Kane a dose of his own medicine with all of the torture hes put others through for his 14 years in WWE, but they never did anything so stupid with Kane, other then his kidnapping of Runjin Singh.

I just feel theyre slowly, week by week as the angle progresses, taking all the steam out of Kane's championship reign. He's being made to look and act the fool, and unless he retains the title somehow at TLC, his credibility of having defeated the Undertaker 3 straight PPV's will be severely damaged, and leaves one to wonder where Kane goes from there.

I have to agree with some of the posters in here. This storyline with Edge is diminishing Kane's championship run and it's killing his momentum. They have basically "wussified" Kane after he basically put the Undertaker to rest. I almost want Edge to win the belt at TLC just because Kane's momentum has run out.

This is one of the worst storyline's I have ever seen. It just seem's to be dragging on and on, and it is making Kane look like a little girl, not a big red monster.

The only way they could turn this around to save Kane's image is have him completely snap, and go back to put his mask on :D

I really can't wait until TLC just so this fued finishes and we dont have to watch Rated A (for Average) Superstar Edge make the "Little Red Girl" his b*tch.

It's one of the most boring storylines I have ever seen. There is nothing interesting about it. If they wanted to kill off the Paul Bearer character, than they should have just had Kane kill him normally instead of weeks of stupid chasing games. Edge has gotten to boring since he came back from his injury at the Rumble and Kane is one of those slow paced wrestlers like Orton that just doesn't go well with Edge's style. Amazing how Raw has the best storyline in years and Smackdown has the worst.

...or did Kane kind of come off as a face last night on Smackdown? It seemed as if he was being portrayed as a sympathetic character in his feud with Edge. He realized the whole thing had gone too far and just wanted to bring his "father" back to safety, but Edge was relentless and unmerciful in his mind games involving Paul Bearer. I know I'm probably looking to deep into this and it's just Kane getting what he deserves for his actions over the past 4-5 months or so, but what if they were playing up the old angle of the heel/face role reversal? Its been done in numerous storylines throughout history, with a prime example occurring in early 1999 in WCW. They were running a feud between (Face) Ric Flair and (Heel) Hollywood Hogan, who had been WHC since the wonderful fingerpoke of doom episode. Flair was currently "president" of WCW and trying to take the title off of Hogan. He would cheat and use his power to his advantage, which at first was well recieved by the fans, but it slowly transitioned into Flair going too far, making it nearly impossible for Hogan to even have a chance of holding onto his belt. This made Hogan an underdog of sorts, and the fans began to pull for him. This was solidified in a first blood match in which Flair was busted open, but ordered the ref to restart the match (correct me if I'm wrong, but i think Flair may have been cut accidentally, making this the only option). I personally felt that this came off rather well though.

So my question is this: Do you think it's possible that they may be doing this in the Edge/Kane storyline, and if so, what implications would this have on the Undertaker's return??

Note: This is my first thread and I haven't slept yet, so I'm sorry if i rambled. Please go easy on me...

There's not much else I can say here than I've already said in the thread Edge/Paul Bearer storyline which is still on the main smackdown thread page. I mentionned here, and I'll say it again, that edge is coming off as tweener and Kane is coming off as face. the only reason people are cheering Edge right now is because of force of habit, he's acting like he did in his cena feud when he went to visit cena's dad, which is not face like at all.

Breaking the story down, Kane hasn't done a single personal thing to Edge at all, he even gave the guy another title shot. Edge on the other hand went and kidnapped someone's aged dad, tried to stuff food in his ears and has basically tortured the guy and whilst Kane has "tortured" people in the past (actually there isn't much evidence for this unless you count his khali feud where he kidnapped runjan singh last year), he hasn't done a thing to Edge so it is all out of no provocation.

I see what your saying but I think the sad thing is they are actually trying to pull this off with edge staying face and Kane staying heel, which if you listen to the crowds, is somehow working. But I wouldn't cheer it now, I wouldn't cheer it in the attitude era because it just doesn't make sense, it just makes you think Edge is a dick you kidnaps people to get title shots. Even after kane gave him the title shot he carried on, and then he (and could someone please tell me how the fudge you would get paul bearer balanced on a table on top of two ladders ever, unrealistic) basically put Paul Bearer in a position where he knew Kane would try to push him off, thats pretty much intention to murder by edge.

So no I think they are trying to keep the roles the same, but it's just a shitty storyline. And when Undertaker returns he will feud with kane as normal, with kane heel and himself face, because there is no way taker could pull off a heel character with his condition and ability right now. I just hope kane kick's edge aerosol all over TLC, maybe something retributional like a chokslam from a ladder into a table, that'll do it for me.

I don't even need to post, because apparently I'm not the only one who feels as though this ridiculously childish and boring storyline is destroying Kane's credibility. I can't help but think this is on purpose to demote Kane again to the level of someone who Undertaker will AGAIN return and "dominate" Kane in a 5 minute 1 on 1 match. This whole thing has been goin what 3 or 4 weeks now? The crowd didn't seem to have been reacting almost at ALL this week. This plot is worse than the current season of Smallville!!! Yes. It's that bad. Smackdown is not very good recently.

Kane has spent recent weeks telling us he's not a monster. I think the whole purpose of "killing" his father is to make him into a full-fledged monster and intensify the push he's received in recent months. Now, we're going to see Kane the way a lot of the folks in this forum have wanted to see him; an unstoppable, evil force. Obviously, his first target is Edge; but we'll see him mowing down anyone in his path, including divas.

As for Edge, who knows? He hardly comes off as a likable character after the Paul Bearer program, does he? His attitude at the end seemed to say :"Well, gee, I sure didn't think that was going to happen!"

If Edge is to be depicted as a face after this, he had better rescue some of those damsels and dudes that Kane is going to be attacking.

Great work by Creative, but let's see where they take it from here.

I thought the payoff was great. It was much darker then I thought they would go, but it literally surprised me. I can't say I enjoyed the angle before that, but I understand what they were trying to do. They needed to have Edge be able to psychologically get to Kane in order to throw him so off that he could capture the WHC from him. But the silly torture scenes and the idea of Edge keeping Bearer for over a month is beyond the idea of suspending disbelief. But a nice payoff that should leave the WHC Kane unhinged and unpredictable as TLC approaches.

I do not like this storyline at all. The killed all the heat that Kane had built up all summer long, giving great promos and such. Then in the matter of two months they destroy all that heat with this stupid shit. I will not be able to see him as a monster now.
Is edge supposed to be a face still? We are supposed to support the actions of a kidnapper, a torturer, and a murderer? I thought that WWE said they would never use murder in an angle, so maybe Bearer is just injured.
I remember a month or so back, when Edge was taking out all thing stupid in the WWE. Someone needs to get that Edge to take out this stupid storyline.
