Edge Give's A Fan His Autograph - Should He Do It More Often?

Dark Match Jobber
I noticed Edge gave a fan his autograph at the end of his match with Dolph Ziggler. I think that's a nice touch, and show the fans that he's interacting with them by doing that. Do you think he will do that at the end of each match he has to show he likes the Edgeheads etc lol.

Lol. Of course someone in the IWC has to make a thread about this...

He was a heel. Therefore, he was suppose to be hated by the crowd...

Now he is a face. Therefore, he is able to interact with his Edgeheads more publicly.

As to your question, I really don't care whether he signs autographs or not. He's a face now. So, sure. Why not? He can do whatever he wants. I'm pretty sure Vince didn't say "Go sign an autograph for a fan after you win." He did it in his own favour. So, he can do it again if he feels like it.

Sure.

If there is one thing that will get the crowd behind a guy more than anything else it's interacting with the crowd. Austin asked for their opinion, Rock talked to the directly, Hogan wanted to hear them cheer, Sting shouted to them, Bret/Rey give them their gear. This is one of the few universal truths in wrestling: the fans love nothing more than being directly acknowledged. Edge signing autographs is fine as it gives him a way to directly connect with the audience. It makes him look human and like he cares as a simple signing of his name is a quick way to make a kid's night special. It works and there's nothing better than that.

But did you see the sign the kid had??? The sign basically admitted to STEALING property from a 7-11 store!! LOL Edge had to do a double take, I know I would. :p I think there are some signs that even wrestlers will stop and admire that fans do in their time.
Even when Edge was a heel, I've met people who said that he was the nicest and kindest person to meet . Although, I've heard many different mixed reviews about Cena, most of them from guys who've said he's a little standoffish. But for the most part, everyone I've talked to who's met Edge said he's the coolest, nicest person to meet. I don't think it matters if you're heel or face, there's been numerous accounts of people running into stars outside of the ring just out and about and have said that he was a cool person.

I love the Canadian born superstars! I wish Edge would go back with Christian when he comes back from his injury.. Now that would be a real team for Bret to manage!

As far as the autographs? John Cena's was obviously scripted but I think Edge just did it on a limb.. to say we'll see the Ococinco'n again? Doubt it.. Leave that for Cenanation.

I guess it could be a cool little addition to him. He's really one of the guys that has a great ability to get the crowd to interact with him. Just looking back at some of the stuff like "Spear, Spear, Spear" and the 5 second pose he had alongside Christian.

Also, it would most likely help Edge a lot. He's over as a face already, but actually getting some kind of proper interaction with them will definitely help him greatly, especially considering he has just recently turned face.

Of course, he could also start handing out those sunglasses as well. But I feel that it's the best choice to have him keep those on. At least until they become a proper merchandise.

I think it was pretty cool what he did, I'm guessing it wasn't scripted unlike when Cena did it on Raw a few weeks back. But anyway I think it would be good for him to start signing someone's sign after matches, he's already over as a face an signing signs will certainly get him even more over with the fans.

Can someone clarify what the sign actually said? LitasRevenge says it was about stealing from 7-11? All I got was something like, "I am such an Edgehead that..."

I thought it was cool how he was kind of staring at it as he walked up the ramp, then actually backtracked, stopped to read it and grabbed the pen. It was a neat sequence of actions that you don't actually see very often, if ever. I don't think that if he was currently heel that he would have broken character to do it, but Edge seems like the kind of guy who even under that circumstance would have given the kid the "horns" or something.

A lot of guys go out of their way to interact with fans who are handicapped or undergoing chemo and things like that, but I'd say it's arguably even cooler that Edge just felt the need to autograph a sign because he thought it was awesome or whatever though, for the simple reason that that sort of fan reaction is so rare. One of my family members used to work for WWF and I got to go backstage and meet a bunch of guys at Survivor Series '93. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome that was, or how many times I tell the story. Tiny things like that make way more of an impact than people think.

I just want to point out that the Edge/Ziggler match was very, very impressive. It was nice to see a tv match with a little bit more time to layout a little bit of a match flow - as at some points I wasn't sure who they booked to win the match by the flow of it all.

Ziggler performing the Zig-Zig on Edge into the ring steps was a fantastic touch.

The match actually felt like a close competition - instead of the usual 2-3 spotfest/finisher matches they usually put on just to move storylines towards the pay-per-views.

I think he should as both face & heel. As heel, he could charge the fans for autographs, it could gain him even more heat with the fans as some fans wont want to pay and when they do pay, he can just pull off his maniacal laughs and cut interviews about how he has the world at his feet like he's a god and can rant about how stupid they are paying for an autograph, stuff like that. But for now, as the face he should continue signing autographs so it becomes one of his trademarks.

I think he works better as a heel if he is the champion but when he chases the championship he should be face, but i dont think it would matter beacause they will cheer for him anyway. And i like it when he signed that sign but when he wins the WHC he wont do that anymore.

Why not? Edge's popularity is through the roof, unlike a lot of wrestlers who get no fan reaction. If someone wants an autograph then Edge has the right to sign them. You don't have to be in character if you're a heel onscreen. The man should be allowed to interact with his fans even if he's a main event heel because he really does appreciate his fans. I wouldn't go as far as to say he'll do something like that after each match though, that'd cause a long line of people wanting an autograph in between the matches. Doing this after a main event match would make sense, but not if it's at any other point in the show. At the end of a Smackdown or a PPV is a good time for Edge to sign a few autographs. The fans would like it and he could show them he cares.
